Luggage straps were standard for HLS30s. Here is the picture in the brochure. They bolt front and aft to threaded nuts welded in the chassis. The bolts, washers and the luggage strap hardware are zinc plated satin silver.
  2. Those are spindle bobs for the rear doomafrachi allowing control of pich an yawn which is critical down the back straight at Daytona (ahhh Daytona). Saw those made out of carbon fiber last year. They are also good for about 2-1/2 ounces of downforce because of less drag-queen. Superb machine work BTW. Do I win?
  3. I confirm that info, Carl.

In my opinion, the car was meant to have headlight covers. Drill the car and mount them so that they can be serviced and cleaned.
  5. Yea. Can you believe that?
  6. Sorry Will. No help from me. I am just as curious.
  7. SCORE!!!! ChrisA!!!! Nice clock.
  8. Consider having your dash resurfaced. Dashboard Restorations is a sponsor of this site and they do a fine job. I have one.
  9. Doesn't the clock need the oscillator unit? Am I thinking of a different clock? Ben knows. What say the v12horse?
  10. Hi MikeW! No, I don't think the letters appear on the VIN. At least they don't on mine. There is a '72 automatic up in Tampa. I'll check next time I'm up there. I am fortunate to have the papers on 26. That's why she is "Her Majesty" - she has papers. The shipping bill is the only HLS30U document. Check out the bill of sale from Campbell Datsun and who can spot the mistake?
  11. Yes ! S30 is commonly known as the chassis designation with various prefix and suffix letters to signify various fitment and export destination. Most of those letters do not appear on the car. 26 and 27 are actually HLS30U for example. There is, however, a specific model designated simply S30. We know it as the Fairlady ZL. The prefix letters are pretty straight forward. If the designation does not have an H for example, then the engine is the L20. If the L is missing the car is right-hand drive. R signifies the L26 engine. The suffix letters get fairly complex. U is the USA federal emission standard. UV is the emission standard for California. UN is the Canada export designation. Then there is F for 5 speed, A for automatic. That's just the North American exports. There is a whole-nother set of letters for domestic variants and other export destinations. Alan is the expert on that stuff.
  12. With the qualifier; "Go look at the car" - "judging from the pictures", I wouldn't sell that car for a dime under $17,000. Surprising responses this morning! What more would you expect, Carl? Tie down hooks, Vicky. Yes they can be removed. Very nice example - looks quite original - low miles - original paint.... We just discussed what these kind of cars were worth not too long ago. Remember the thread on the Wall Street Journal investment article?
  13. The H signifies either L24 engine or L28 engine - yes. The L signifies left-hand drive
  14. Wow! You guys need to go back to school. A GS30 is a right-hand drive Fairlady ZL 2+2 with an L20 engine - 1974-1975. An HS30 is a right-hand drive 240Z of various trim with an L24 engine - 1972-1973. An HLS30 is a left-hand drive 240Z with an L24 engine - 1969-1973. This information is in the parts Cd, available for sale on this site. Also, a "best" reference is Brian Long's; "Datsun Z, Fairlady to 280Z". That was a cool link. Seems like a club went to the trouble of documenting a bunch of different models. It is not all that accurate and makes for a nice "spotters guide" discussion. Don't think the cars shown are all stock original examples.
  15. I have '70 manuals as well as parts books. I still don't understand what is being asked in this thread. So far, I have seen several different model numbers of Hitachi / SU carburetors discussed. Some technical specifications have been discussed. But "part numbers" keep coming up and I don't understand why we just don't look up the carbs in the parts books like the one sold on this site. I figure everyone has one of those? The part number for the HJG46W-3A assembly that fits on the North American import 240Z up to 8-71 is 16010-E4301. Is that what you are asking for?

Just yesterday, I responded to an inquiry on the IZCC list referring to this thread. I have had several conversations with other members from this site about the issue and we all have our ideas, but I believe (from all indications) the issue is over. BTW: I have a number of MidwestZ collector edition business cards. :cheeky:
  17. Michael, Ztherapy has all this info. http://www.ztherapy.com/
  18. Thanks for the link, Victor.

  20. My simpathy, Will. I got ripped by Jim Edwards of North Carolina for a $350 set of wheels. His name is all over Zcar.com and I filed a complaint with the post office. Last I heard, there was a warrant, but I don't know.
  21. MSA sells Earle's stainless steel brake hoses. First class hoses.
  22. Depending on what you are looking for.... Motor Sport Auto (MSA) and Victoria British (VB) are the two top general suppliers with catalogs. Check out the "used parts" thread running on the forum now. New metal comes from Zedd Findings, TABCO, VB, and Mills Supply. Repro rubber parts (excluding weatherstrip moldings) from Banzai and CyberSanford. Of course, don't forget your good old local Nissan dealer.
  23. 25% Racer X Fun survey!

The twins send their greetings from green land and say that the stupid guy who owns them thinks a red Z is stunning. Of course, yellow has always been popular. Isn't it great how a car that just blew the British sports car market in the weeds was painted BRG?
