think the 6029 has a different bolt pattern on the pressure plate for the flywheel that the 6009.

this is the link to the one I ordered https://www.klmperformance.com/inline-fuel-line-strainer-prefilter.html Its cheap so I am not out a lot if its not the correct thing to use.

I will use this for a while (I hate buying stuff and then not using) and report back on any weird pump noises if noted esp when summer time kicks in. Guess it has to be better than the G3 that is in there now?

this is what is coming Are offered as a universal in-line fuel filter element. This high flow inline pre-filter element is an inline fuel strainer for pre-pump installation. Are available in either 3/8" or 1/2" I.D. sizes for in-line fuel line installation. Both of these in line pre-filters from Fleetguard have a 24-micron stainless mesh inner cage. Can hold a 13-gram capacity which prevents large particles from entering the fuel pump. The Fleetguard replacement inline fuel filters are designed for inlet side filtration only! Fleetguard In-line Fuel Strainers are a high flow element that will not restrict fuel supply to your fuel pump. its pretty big, 2" by 4" if I read the specs right. Physical Dimensions of the FASS 3/8" In-Line Fuel Strainer Largest element OD - 48.489 mm (1.909 in) Overall Height: - 98.81 mm (3.89 in) Inlet Connection - 0.375" Outlet Connection - 0.375"

looks like I pulled the trigger too fast on the 24 micron, I should have looked more closely at your link.

I think I found the G3 spec at 5 microns, the fuel strainer I am going to try is 20microns, I would like to run with out it but since my sock is missing, I feel I need something in front of the pump. I tried looking for 100 micron strainers, there were a few but all seemed to have AN fittings which I did not want to figure out.

so what would be ok a "fuel strainer" I know my tank has no sock, and there is junk I can see in the G3. something like this as a before pump "strainer" https://www.klmperformance.com/inline-fuel-line-strainer-prefilter.html I am going to get one and see how well it works.

I would just buy seals, no reason to buy the brass if yours is ok. Pretty sure you can get the OE seals from Nissan. You will need to spend some time going over the drawings to get the right part numbers. You want the front and rear as well as the paper gasket for the front cover. the o rings for the shifter you need to just look up, same with pinion. I don't have those handy. I would save my money on the kits you see on ebay. just get OE stuff that you need. No gasket in the middle (adapter plate) just reg sealant on both sides. One thing to watch out for, IF you decide to take the main nut off the output shaft its most likely rev thread (CW to loosen), but I am not positive if that is the case for EVERY EARLY 81 trans. IF you have the CCW to loosen you may find its NLA, so you would need to reuse it. They have a punch to lock them in place. I wish I could tell you how to know for sure if its reversed or not. The only reason I even think there is an issue is while watching the video I seem to see village land guy remove that one by turning CCW.

the oil gutter is on the same side as the reverse lockout, so when separating the front section, try to make sure when pulling apart that side gets preference to any sideways movement. you want to make sure the front does not come inwards and break of the gutter. there is a good video on rebuild look up villageland on you tube.

I would open it up and inspect for your own peace of mind. Don't be surprised if the rev idler has some chips. You may want to replace the front countershaft bearing if it sounds the least bit bad. Its a little bit on the small side and is very easy to get at. You can take a look at the brass and see if you still have decent gaps. At 100k I would think its going to be ok unless it was abused. new seals of course and look at the brass tail shaft bushing. If it looks scored up you may want to replace it while the tail shaft housing it out. there is a company that makes the "correct" bush, its longer than the ones most often listed (they are shorter than OE if that matters). careful not to break the oil gutter its right next to the 1st gear on the ouput shaft, easy to knock off when separating the front section from the adaptor plate. If you do break it replace, as it supples the oil to the tail shaft bushing. On the one I got, it was broken (stuck to the magnet) before I opened up the trans, and the tail shaft bushing was toast (no oil). you may want to R&R the various o rings for the shifter if you have oil accumulating where the shifter fits into the striker bar. there are 3 IIRC that need to be replaced. And finally make sure you have the right pinion for the 390 gear. you can replace the o rings on that as well to prevent oil loss at the speedo cable. with the 390 its going to give up some of its hiway cruzing but will be more fun since you can use the 5th more often. On mine (3.54) I don't go into 5th until I am over 70, below that and its bogging (80 is about 3k, 70 2.7k I think).

I was out driving today, well taking a driving test I should say since everyday in O town is a driving test... anyway there was a crash (I don't like to use accidents as that would imply something that could not have been avoided) a crash in the middle of a limited access toll road no where near a exit or entrance. No rain, good visibility I mean WTF how do these idiot just run into each other. Anyway there was a lot of redirecting of traffic which made the think, how do self driving cars relate to the cop out there in the middle of the street giving hand signals? how does the car know its a cop? can it really be that good with visual cues? how about a good citizen that is trying to save lives vs the crack pot that wants to create havoc? once some tricky driving to get around the wreaks back on the road, I see a metal sign laying on the ground next to the hiway. Knowing a good wind could pick that right up I slow down and get away from it. So can a self driving car figure out when to take defensive measures like that. Can it tell the diff in a piece of harmless card board vs metal sheet. Is it smart enough to know its limits and slow down to take the time to figure it out? will it look behind and see the dope on the cell phone ready to rear end it if is does slow down? can it decide which is more likely to cause a problem? Will It look behind and see the idiot biker on a rice burner weaving in and out and take advasive action when the bike suddenly cut you off (I saw it coming and made it easy for the fool not to become an organ donor). On a day like today I am thankful that I am driving. Now this next statement will sound inflammatory and I really don't mean it that way. I had an epiphany, Low information drivers are ok with self driving since they themselves do not really take all the information that is out there into account in there own driving, therefore its easy to think a computer can duplicate the same level of awareness they are used to doing. Hi information drivers (drivers with good skill and experienced enough to be able to recognize and extrapolate possible outcomes) realize there is a lot more to driving than steering and braking. A set of algorithms will never really be able to do as long as there are unexpected problems, which there will always be. I would like to see more people get educated to become Hi information drivers.
  13. How about that one with them in the OK corral, that was some fine set work there, of course it was worked into the story line, but must have been done during the cost cutting phase. the naked time, "one more time!" no ice cream for you...
  14. the orig pilot, deemed to cerebral or something like that actually a warning of VR that has not been heeded. there were some really goods ones like "city of the edge of tomorrow" (think that was it) where kirk had do deal with some real dilemmas, and some real turds like "spocks brain". the good thing was it had quite a variety of story telling, something like the twilight zone. I remember the 1st episode "the man trap" and coming to school the next day to talk about it back in elementary school. I mean that creature was down right scary, esp with those creepy suckers on the fingers, yikes. Maybe wrong about 1st, "where no man has gone before with whacky eyes HL hoolahan was one of the ones that got the power. that may have been 1st . that was when mrs Roddenberry played 1st officer and was a brunette. It was funny cause spock was very emotional in that episode.
  15. I did check my vent line for stuffiness.

snorkel is in! no need for that bracket, its not going anywhere and besides I could not see where it bolts on to the core support anyway. Starting to wonder if the 75's had one? anyway it looks cool and its staying put. there is a vent that goes into the fender and no where else, so I always assumed it was supposed to be there. maybe there is a bolt hole I am missing, its kinda dark out in the garage.
  17. I like the one where kirk was faking madness to get the Romulon cloaking device. Any time kirk freaks out is fun to watch.

oh and there you go differing opinion on using torque wrenches. Granted not very accurate when swivel and ext are installed, but I still used one IIRC.
  20. Dave WM posted a post in a topic in Exhaust
did you use any kinds of lubricants when loosening the exhaust manifold nuts? if so likely they are just burning off, see if it continues to smoke after several minutes. If you have a leak I would think you could hear it. use a rubber heater hose, listen to one end and move the other around near the exhaust manifold. if its leaking you will hear it. And yes you should try to use a torque wrench, and then go back after a couple heat cycles and check again. did you reuse the manifold gasket?

fuel pressure 28 is correct, its tied to vacuum. 36 only when no vacuum.

    yes pls do. thx

fuel pressure check (36 psi). Spark check (observe while cranking). EFI check (listen for injector clicking with stethoscope). are the plugs coming out dry after trying to start? if so prob no fuel if spark is good.
