  1. This is an old school test for points type ignition but I would highly recommend that you don't do it on cars with electronic ignition. It can cause spikes that will damage the ignition module. Use an inline spark check tool.
  2. He didn't, it's an old joke...... Neither of them did. GunnerRob's is an old joke and JimmyZ's was a story told to him by a friend....
  3. Interesting. 240Zs had point ignition and 260/280Zs had electronic ignition. Two different coils.
  4. When I last heard that joke it took place in Wal-Mart and the guy had four dogs.
  5. Why would your 76 be smog exempt? In California, basically the 1975 year model or older would be smog exempt. I've read where there are a handful of counties in California that only require smog certifications within certain zip codes. Are you in one of those?
  6. That almost sounds like a bad radiator cap. Have the cap checked to see if it holds 13 psi or just replace it and see if the problem goes away. They're fairly inexpensive.
  7. And also practially any other vehicle regardless of manufacturer........
  8. If you're talking about idler pulley bearings, you'd only need to check/change them if your car had them. Those would only be on the ones that have AC.
  9. What harness would that be? Remember, the thread you revived is over four years old. It's author, who sometimes starts threads for reasons only he would know, was talking about a harness that was for a 240Z. He, like you, owns a 280Z. Whatever harness he'd refered to may or may not the same one you're talking about. Hell, the company has even changed name since then, at least, the part of it that deals with Datsun/Nissan. You'll have to bring us up to speed as to which harness you bought. AFAIK, they (VB or Black Dragon) still don't make a 280Z headlight harness.
  10. Well, sort of. All that means is that it's a legit part number. Availability is another story all together. I've done lots of business with them over the last few years. You'd have to call 1-866-754-5500 and speak to either Russell Moore or Lisa Alexander. They are the internet parts manager and internet director respectively. Either of them could tell you if a particular part number is actually available or not.
  11. I'm sure it has nothing to do with it. It's just that factory timing specs are less advanced on the smog pump equipped vehicles.
  12. That's 5 months before I joined this site!
  13. That isn't any clearer....You're from Bahrain, you're posting in the "Nissan/Datsun Sports Owners Club in Melbourne" forum and what you're saying makes no sense at all. Sorry.
  14. I just don't like it. That's all there is to it. I'm allowed to say that. That's my opinion. If someone else does like it, that's their opinion. It really doesn't need to go too much beyone that. Let's not fall victim to 'paralysis by analysis' here.
  15. Rancho is a big city but that's exactly what I thought when I read that. I'm about 7 miles from there but I won't have anything to do with him.
  16. ???????????? It's not even remotely clear what you are trying to express in your post.
  17. That's true. In fact, if there any holes in the exhaust system or leaks of any kind that are large enough, the car will fail.
  18. I do believe that any pressure on that plug would be pulling in against it rather than rather than pressing out. And that would be the low pressure side where fuel is drawn from the tank rather than the high pressure side where it's pumped through the system. I used a plastic fuel damper from an 810 for years on my 280Z and never had a problem.
  19. If it's a '1978 datsun 260Z' then it really is 'One of a kind'......
  20. That's from experience. When I bought my 78 in 1997, it only had 61000 miles on it but the springs were sagging. Time can be just a much an enemy as mileage.
  21. I like it, Arne, I think it's cool! I just couldn't recall who it was. (oldtimers' disease) I must have supplied parts for at least cars as many as you have.
  22. We have shops here that will do that also.
  23. The two that run into each other in the parking lot while doing donuts or whatever they were doing........they deserve each other!
  24. I wonder where Jay got that one? I was under the impression that OEM 280Z fuel dampers were long since NLA after looking for one about 5 years ago. I ended up using one for an 810. 17330-U7400 They're plastic but the design is better than the one for a 280Z. but that was 5 years ago. I doubt that they're available now either. Glad the TPS worked out for you. I'm going to have to start listing how many S30 are running around with parts that came from me. Who is it that does that, Arne?
  25. For starters, you didn't mention anything about how you're going to put that power to the ground, i.e. drive train components, etc. Or what you're going to do to keep from twisting the unibody to a pretzel. What's your time frame and budget for building this car?
