Factory 240Z headers
I am presently looking at a USA 'Datsun Competition Parts', catalog. It has to be from late 1972 or early 1973 since it only mentions these cars: 240Z, 510/610, 1600/2000, and 1200. I makes no mention of headers but has these two exhaust items: 99996-E1045 240Z Exhaust System A complete muffled dual pipe exhaust system from the engine to the back of the car. Will work on a 1970, 1971, or 1972 240Z with manual transmission. 99996-E1042 Racing Megaphone The 240Z exhaust system if designed so the rearmost section of the exhaust system, which contains the glass pack type mufflers, can be easily removed and the megaphone system installed in its place. This gives a straight- through unmuffled exhaust system. All taken verbatim from the catalog.

here you are skyline buffs...prince skyline
Can you get late 70s 810 (200B) coupe parts there? Are there any other sources in Australia besides Rare Spares? I've dealt with them and they've been great but they don't have a couple of things I'm looking for.

Z Music
That may be true although the 'Animal' tune kind of cranks, but I would hardly lump Toto with Jim Croche. A lot of bands are story teller bands. Like Steely Dan. You just have to understand the story!

But, like Lachlan said, where would you find the parts?

240z Power Steering?
I guess as long as you remember that it would be okay! But seriously, I'm not very familiar with the suspension and steering in a ZX.

John Collins' 280ZX funny car (1980s)
Yeah, that's how the did them back then. They weren't very successful but I cheered them on anyway 'cause they were Datsun's. Even though they were Chrysler hemi powered!

240z Power Steering?
After further review: 81-84 Maximas have power rack and pinion 81 ZXTs had power rack and pinion 82-83 ZXs and ZXTs had power rack and pinion Don't know if they will fit a series 1 but it's a good place to start checking.

240z Power Steering?
Going back to my previous post, I had forgotten one thing. The 810 doesn't have rack and pinion steering. It has power recirculating ball steering. The 81-84 Maximas had rack and pinion. I'll have to research some ZX's next time I go to the junkyard.

VQ35DE motor in to a '73 Z???
The 50mm heigth difference is just a shade under 2 inches. Since you'd have to design the motor mounts for this swap, if they were designed such that the VQ could sit as low as possible, I think the hood would close. The highest point would be the center of the engine and that is where the hood is highest. I would also be curious about the oil pan confriguation.

240z Power Steering?
You should probably search the junkyards and check the steering components on ZX's, 810's, and pre-85 Maximas. If the parts look like they mignt be compatible, that would be the way to go costwise. I once thought about doing that to my 78 280Z. I've never actually seen one done. When I get a chance, I'm going to compare my Z (non ps) to my 810 (ps). I'll let you know what I find out.

Janspeed turbo Z car inventory & janspeed history
The Janspeed company was in England. I have read about the conversion but I can't remember where. To my knowledge that conversion was not available here in the U.S. I'll bet you could find some information if you check with Alan T. (HS30-H).

It's still two hours off. I live in the Pacific time zone but I have had to set my user cp time option to Hawaii time to match the time on my computer.

Any experience with BFG Radial T/As????
For a knock-around basic use tire, check out the Kumho 732 Touring Plus. I bought some for my Z (2056014) from Tire Rack last summer and the have held up very well. I will soon, however, be putting the Yokohama A-509's (2256014) I bought from MistressMotorsports (Mike) on it.

Auto conversion; now overheating
Hang in there old school Skyliners! I happen to enjoy reading about my 810's cousins across the pond. Glad hear you worked out your overheating problem. I was assuming a good thermostat in the scenario I mentioned in my earlier post.

polishing wheels...suggestions please
Some of the shops use an acid wash. I have always been reluctant to try that since the acid will also etch the aluminum if left on too long.
