Going international for heater parts 1977 280Z

If Nissan no longer makes the part then why would it be any easier to find in Australia. Start checking the junkyards. Do you know the part numbers? Give www.nissanparts.cc a call. I bought a heater control valve for my 810 earlier this year from them. I know it's a different part but you'd be surprised what's still available. Which parts are you looking for in this attachment?

		What should I do?

"My uncle preserved for me and old machine for 50 odd years, To keep it as new has been his dearest dream, I strip away the old debris that hides a shining car, A brilliant red barchetta from a better vanished time." etc. Cool tune. Neil Peart is a poet as well as one hell of a drummer.

		Interesting car

The round thing on the roof pillar on the drivers side? That's the gas door.

		What should I do?

I wish! I own a 78Z and a 79 810 that were both about to become exempt when they changed the rolling 25 year rule.

		A/C removal

York 'compressor' not condenser. That was the upright type used in a lot of the early Z a/c installations. Not a very efficient unit. Doesn't move enough refrigerant. The best vent temp I was ever able to achieve with one of those is 38 degrees which is not low enough to comfortably cool a car. The nice thing about the Sanden SD508 which is the modern version of the Sankyo is that it is still available today. Sanden bought out Sankyo some years back. Vintage Air uses them in all the hot rod, muscle car and custom systems.

		someone tell me what this...

And I can attest from some things I've found with my 810 and my 280Z, that Datsun carried that theme through most of that decade!

		A/C removal

That would depend on which 'dealer installed' system it is. They're not all marginal especially the ones that don't use York compressors. I have achieved acceptable results with the Sanden/Sankyo rotary compressor systems. Basically, all you need is the biggest condenser that will fit and a better fan and proper sealing between the vents, ducts, etc.

		is this oil pump serviceable

I was actually agreeing with the 'shot' part. The oil and filter are a no-brainer.

I would also look at the cold start valve/thermotime switch combination. A leaking cold start valve or a bad thermotime switch could also make the car run rich.

		Putting L26 into my 280

Use the EFI distributor, coil, etc. from the L28 and you shouldn't have any problems with the tach.

Enigma, yours appears to be a 1980 trans even though the build date would indicate 81. You know how Datsun liked to carry things over until they used them up.

		Help with EXACT sticker placement

I don't think that was on my 70 but it was on my 72. I would imagine that other states that had some form of emissions testing got their own version of that sticker.

Mechanical Fuel Pump Studs #, Tranny Drain Plug

Three studs is correct according to the microfiche. You can install the pump over the three studs. I would imagine that switching to a bolt at the bottom is something that would have been done to make installation easier. Doubtful that any of these cars a fuel pump that was originally installed and has been left untouched for all of these years.

		Throttle body

Was your car originally a California car? If so, the problem you describe could be caused by a bad altitude switch.

		Back up lamp-switch.

They're talking about a Borg Warner T-5 not a regular Nissan tranny.

Gary, that is a ZX trans (80-83 ZX,81-84 Maxima). It only has the one mounting ear on the left side for the exhaust bracket below the shifter where the 77-79 has one on each side. Also has a slightly higher fifth gear than the Z trans. The other device is a neutral saftey switch on the 81-84 trans which you don't have to worry about since the rest of that circuitry isn't in the earlier cars. As far as the breather, some one else will have to answer that as I've never encountered that problem. Here's a ratio chart:
