    Okay.
  2. I have an SD508 in my 78 but my car has dealer installed/aftermarket air. I not sure that it will on fit the factory brackets which are designed for a Hitachi compressor but Vintage Air as well as other AC shops sell a universal bracket for the SD508 that will fit just about anything.
  3. You would need to have it checked to see why it has no pressure. Refrigerant doesn't evaporate from the system and I doubt if anyone would have let it out if the system was good. You most likely have a leak somewhere in the system. Usually it's one or more of the hoses. R12 is what that system was designed to use and it's the best way to go but it's expensive. Whatever you do, don't let anyone convince you to convert it to R134a. That kills these old systems. One good R12 alternative is Johnsens Freeze 12. That's what I use but I'm a liscensed MVAC/HVAC tech. You'd have to find a shop that uses that refrigerant.

I wasn't trying to put you on the spot. I'll leave it alone.

Well, you know we (Cali) have to pass the "evap test' now also.
  6. I don't know about over 30 but 12-13 tells me something is wrong.

If you were having a problem with your car and disconnecting the EGR valve 'fixed' it then, technically speaking, you still have a problem. Does your car pass smog?
  8. If it's a factory system, it will have a low pressure switch. If it's a dealer installed/aftermarket system, it may or may not. The switch doesn't keep them from running dry, it keeps them from running below a certain pressure. Take a close look at these two scans to determine which system you have:

I doubt if the fibreglass would stick to the vinyl. Even if it did, you'd have the original layer of vinyl with filler, a layer (or two) of fibreglass, and a layer of texture coating. How thick would that thing be?
  10. That's why I like the terms 'frontfire' and 'afterfire' though I still have to explain those terms most of the time.

Which vents? 77-78? Note what year mine is. I know they're open. My question was about the various different ZX vents.
  12. Sorry Bill but I'd have to agree that your statement is about as useful (or useless) as the one you responded to.
  13. Can't see his posts but, from what I recall, your suggestion is spot on!
  14. Though my son was never a 'lead foot' every car that he's owned in his 11 years of driving has found it's final resting place in the junkyard, except for the one he presently owns. 5 cars! A 88 Chevy Nova, which is really a rebadged 88 Toyota Corolla, a 89 Toyota Celica, a 86 Chevy Cavalier, a 86 Ford Taurus, and a 88 Honda Prelude. Ran the out of oil, or trans fluid, ran them until the suspension/brakes or electrical system gave up, etc. No mechanical skills, no knowledge of how a car works (except for stereo systems!) and no desire to learn. But he doesn't get tickets.
  15. Have you researched what it would take to put a turbo on your 76? Are you planning to use a 280ZX turbo engine? Lot of mods to the electronics and fuel system. It's a rather costly and extensive process and if I were you, I'd look into that before I worried about which cam to run in it. Search the site for info on turbo conversions, this site as well as Hybrid Z as was suggested in your other post.
  16. It all has to do with condition and adjustment/operation of the fuel system components. My 78 gets 19-20 city, 24-26 hwy and I've heard of better than that.
  17. Well, that was a lapse in my spelling skills rather than my language skills.
  18. You could also run a switched 12 volt to it's connection which would basically render it inoperative.
  19. Sorry Chris, I forgot to say congratulations to your son. I was somewhat blown away by Tomo's comment. If he's a good kid, like you say, he won't dissapoint you. My son has been driving for 11 years now and he has a better driving record than I did in my first 11 years.
  20. Replace the screws with stainless allen head bolts, you'll be much happier next time you have to do that job.
  21. Well that a rather grim and sweeping generalization:rolleyes:
  22. There are quite a bit of them still around and they have quite a following in Southern Calfiornia and I'm sure elsewhere. Here's a couple that were at last years JCCS.
  23. Let's see if I got that: You graduated for Colegio Anglo-Columbiano (in Bogota) and your a cousin of Enrique Penalosa? And you met other Columbians at the Z Convention in Daytona last year? I don't use my Spanish much anymore so it's not as easy as it once was.
  24. The BCDD is on the bottom of the throttle body. I don't know how you 'blocked it off' as it's an electronically controlled. The end of the hose you described connects to the air regulator.
  25. Why would that be? They'd still be 260Zs with automatic transmissions.
