  1. At least the cover is ready to powder coat... ... and here’s a pic of the CLSD.
  2. Mines an '78 (corrected from original post saying it was an 83)... I prefer the top end cruising over the tire squealing... Edit: I just looked back at page one of the thread and realized I called the tranny a 78... even though I was sure it was an 83...! Is there an easy way to tell from the outside of the transmission?
  3. These are the comparisons for the 3.7 and the 3.9 Anyone care to post their thoughts on benefits or negatives of either ratio?
  4. I have the 1978 5 Spd tranny. I agree that the 10 bolts holding the ring in place are more tensile than sheer strength, but I don't have any suitable bushing material at hand....
  5. It is definitely the CLSD and the 3.90 ring gear is smaller bolts. The problem here is, if I use the smaller bolt and try and centre it in the CLSD housing, there is a potential for movement and wallowing. If I re-drill the 3.90 ring gear, there is a potential for error and destroying a good ring gear. The other option is to sleeve the M12 opening in the CLSD and then use smaller bolts to attach the 3.90 ring gear. In the end, what am I really losing by going with the 3.70 rear end? A little bit of lower end pickup and gaining a better cruising gear in 5th....
  6. Well here's a kick in the junk! The R200 3.70 LSD has a ring gear bolt that is M12 and the R200 3.90 ring gear is M10! Now I have to decide whether to machine the 3.90 ring gear to the new bolt size for the LSD or leave the 3.70 ring gear on and use the complete CLSD R200 as is. I will need to recondition the diff housing, of course. But man... all that work sourcing the 3.90 gear set and prepping the housing with powdercoat etc... to have to do it all over again!!! arrrgghhh. But worth it I guess.
  7. A little progress...
  8. Updates on blue?
  9. Was it a stock engine? But awesome for you to fab up a R200 moustache bar etc!
  10. Clear coat everything! ;)
  11. ... and there’s no V8 in the garage... But if I found a stray RB25DETT lying around.... I might be tempted!
  12. Sounds like fun putting it together. I’ll let you know how it goes. I plan on using the powder coated housing that came with the 3.9 open diff and gears, so all I’ll be swapping is the lsd carrier. The pinion gear is already set to the housing in this case. I will also swap over the finned cover of course, because, bling! And I have the AZC moustache bar.
  13. And I have a 3.9 ring and pinion waiting to go with this CLSD from an 88 300ZX TT. The stock 3.7 is just a little light for my 5 spd. The AZC is gonna love holding this up!
  14. Zed Head, you of all people should know I have all the supporting mods to support this swap...
  15. Swapping an R200 in has a list of other mods that need to be done to support it. The R180 is a good diff for a stock powered 240...
  16. Why hello there little fella!... you look lost. I’ll give you a good home!
  17. Someone’s fishing... looking to real in a big one.
  18. I am planning on adding a set of 2010 370Z seats to my 76. A friend is going racing seats, so if I can get them to fit, I’ll have a set of leather, power, heated seats. From a Z!
  19. No spark plug wire bossing’s, no oil vapour return plug... welded and filled and painted. Very nice.
  20. Sorry to thread jack, but... beautiful job on the shaved valve cover!
  21. Cleco, then zip cut, then tack, then butt weld. That’s what worked best for me. Cleco’s are great for test fitting.
  22. My experience with Tabco was that they were a good start, but needed a lot of massaging....
  23. Yup. That’s why stuff from overseas takes three months to get delivered in Canada. Canada Post has a pre-negotiated postal rate for countries like China and they get pennies on the dollar for postage. Therefore they take their sweet time to clear it in customs etc. Essentially last priority.
