e-bay datsunz903?
Hi,yes that is me. I was surposed to bid for this too, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&category=33643&item=2468143156&sspagename=STRK%3AMEBWA%3AIT This is a chrome "Z" verision. And to see the back,it is very unusual solid casting. My chrome"Z" version wing badge has normal forming on back, digged for light weight. It is same as a white inlay"Z" version. I remenber when Mr.MATSUO showed me a prototype emblem for S30,it was a very thick and solid casting without any digged for light weight. So this auction item is a real early emblem must be some around Sep or Oct made I guess. I learned there are 3 type of metal emblems. #1 earliest metal emblem chrome "Z" with solid back #2 earliest metal emblem chrome "Z" with light weight back #3 metal emblem white inlay "Z" with light weight back I really wanted to bid for this, and I would shoot my best just before the end of auction this is my strategy.BUT I forgot it!! Today here in japan was a nice sunny day, warm and clear sky.I got up late 9:30 am and checked the ebay,"....The item will end after 2 and a half hour.O.K,I can go to a barber...." When the barber was shaving my face,I found I was surposed to bid.I asked him "What time is it now???" kats

Damn shame....
Hi, I would like to join and add little more. This fairlady-ZL was made in 1970.Please refer this, http://www.ne.jp/asahi/club/s30/nl11/NL11-P20.jpg And I posted once in this thread, http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7801&perpage=15&highlight=kats&pagenumber=4 For 1969,the factory data from NISSAN SHATAI indicates 969 japanese S30s(includes all japanese model) were made. It is interesting,Dec 1969,export model(HLS30 and HS30)was not big number. You probably know there are so few Dec 1969 made 240Z to compare Nov 1969 made 240Z. For domestic,Dec 1969,nearly 900 S30s were made.It is interesting. Nissan had to slow down producing 240Z late 1969 because they got problem reports from the test crew in the U.S. about huge road noise and too much steering kick back and vibration from the rear axle.Tokyo head office did not think about seriousely first, but U.S. nissan did not accept those problems. (I think these problems are not serious problem.I think these are lovely early 240Z's featuring) Because of that, many 1969 240Zs were held at nissan factory until problems were cured. Late Dec 1969,the refined 240Z(I do not know only one Z or more)arrived at nissan gardena carifornia by air. U.S. nissan accept refined 240Z,then 1969 240Zs were exported. I guess 1969 240Zs were not "refined" version.Because they were already made, they did not have time to replace so many parts for refinement. Always I think my mar/1970 240Z got insurator on the rear deck compertment. But 1969 240Zs do not have it,we can see the 12 holes on the rear deck. The insurator was the featuring for "sound deadning" according to U.S. nissan's claim of the road test in the late 1969. Sorry for this "off-route". kats

question about gas tank harness
Hell, I found my 240Z's rear deck harness is something funny. For the gas tank wires, which hole does it go into? I think my 240Z is probably wrong. The harness should take another hole next to the previous one. Please let me know which hole your Z takes? kats

Very rare 240Z emblem
I would like to tell you a interesting old story in japan. My friend Dr.SUZUKI(he owns a fairlady-Z since late 1971,his car posted in gallery by Alan T.)told me that back in 1970's policemen were very strict about modified car. When they saw the modified car, they immediately stop the car, then proceed to the inspection. Not only flared fenders but also custom emblems were strictly prohibited.Engine modds were needless to say, neither solex carbs nor dual exaust tubes were allowed. However, many young owners tried to make their car something special. Once Dr.SUZUKI found tere is a export model S30,and it has DATSUN emblem which never seen in japan. He fallen in love the emblem,he called local nissan to buy the emblem. But nissan dealer did not accept his request.Nissan said to him"you do not need them, right?your Z is right-hand drive!" Nissan did not want to sell export parts to domestic owner. Because they also knew policemen were very strict about modified car. Dr.SUZUKI now have got replaced all emblems to DATSUN on his fairlady-Z. P.S. This photo shows the comparison of chrome Z and white Z. Right;chrome Z, Left;white Z.The chrome Z is thicker than white Z. Also you can see the difference in the depth of cavity. kats

Very rare 240Z emblem
Hi 2ManyZs, It is wonderful that metal emblems were available from MSA. Also in japan, some fairlady Z metal emblems were available from local Nissan a few years ago. My friend in japan gave me a set of quater metal emblem "white Z" 3 years ago, they were needless for him because his Z is a fairlady-ZL.Emblems were NOS,I do not know why he got them ,just curious? This photo shows crome Z emblem before cleaning. kats

fairlady's caps
Hi v12horse, Thank you and I made a mistake, this fairlady-ZL cap was used until some around 1975 or 76 in japan.Same as rest of the world in late 1971 a new style cap"5 scalops"was released. But in japan it was for 2.4 litter S30(Fairlady240Z and Fairlady240ZG) This photo shows my hub caps "D" type from an another thread. kats http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/attachment.php?s=&postid=55691

Hi, I post my hubcaps which are for fairlady-ZL.This design was used from the 1969 through 1978 in japan. But you can see these caps have tabs which I call later style. So these are not for the earliest one, mabe mid '70s. kats

Very rare 240Z emblem
This is a true bonnet emblem.Very similar. mdbrandy, the hubcaps under the table are not "D"mark version. They are for japanese S30.Instead of a "D" there is a hexagonal silver mark on the center. These I do not need anymore,I bought these for my Z before I got correct "D" caps. If I list them on ebay, how much people will be looking at? I listed once on japanese yahoo auction,no one made a bid. I was sad.. kats

Very rare 240Z emblem
Mr Camouflage, I agree what you thought.fairlady's quater emblem is very similar to its bonnet emblem. But I show this time, your saying becomes ture. This Z is from a brief catalog issued 1969 Tokyo motor show for its debut.I found this Z has got a quater emblem on its bonnet!!This is a completely mistake.I asked this to Mr.MATSUO and he said emblems had not made until just a few days before the photo mission.Mr.KATAYAMA felt so much difficulty for naming about export model this is one of the reason, and also design staff was so busy this is another reason,Mr.MATSUO said. The younger staff ran to the studio like a pizza deliverly staff with emblems in his hands. So this mistake happend. P.S. My son got a 240Z emblem and dash side ventirator from my parts box. When I found it,it was too late. They are now his toys!! kats

Very rare 240Z emblem
240ZX, I was excited but thank you for letting us know the truth.Do not worry I enjoyed a dream about my installing chrome Z. But I do not give it up,some one up to HLS30-02500 may has chrome "Z".I would like to hear about it. Alan, thank you for your great search for the part number. I have to know yes,the car like showing the press photo is a very rare and may have a lot of unsusal parts. For example, hood bumper stay #63840-E4100 which is located at both sides of inspection lid is a very different shape in the 1969 240Z.Even more some cars on the press photo do not have ones.Nothing there!! And parts change is notified a few months later is a common I found. For example, quater emblems#76807(8)-E4600 was listed on the first issued catalog(Nov1969) and continued on the first revision(Mar1970).On the second revision(Jun1970)the part number was surperseded but it says it was made Feb1970. So in the factory, they changed parts first, parts catalog followed their change. Mr.NISHI(proffetional restorer in japan)said japanese S30's first parts catalog was not issued until early 1970. I guess the reason of quater emblems (before the quater vented)for failady-Z has only one part-number is the parts catalog was issued after the emblems had changed. The rare "press photo emblem"was already disapered when the parts catalog was issued. However nissan may change parts itself without change its parts number. civ104 and 26th-Z, The lock lid is a standerd in japanese S30.And you can open it with same key for door key. When Z started to use all-in-one key,you can open it with the key also for ignition, door, etc. But I am not for sure in the U.S.,if you install a lock for a lid at dealer, you may have a extra key for the lid? 240znz and dazza, Thank you for your inputs.I want to see chrome "z" from your country and U.K. also.If it becomes true,it will be another new findings. Photo from press day 25th Nov 1969.This Z has colored interior. If body is Blue, interior is blue.If green, interior is tan. Can you see 240Z emblem got"chrome Z" kats

Hose clamps
Hi Victor Laury, Yeah, I need to get them replated in someday. And I found SRL has an unique wire clamp for almost every hoses. For S30, this unique clamp can be seen at fuel tube between SUs and fuel metal pipes.Recently I saw HLS30-00476 in japan(maby some of you know, it came from california)it has this clamp for fuel line. To compair photos,SRL was applied unique clamps for most of hoses, ealry S30(espesialy this press photo failady-ZL)was applied unique clamps and ordinaly clamps half and half. Then unique clamps was used only for fuel lines. This is my guessing. I think next stage I have to do difficult charange for this unique clamp. kats
