Batery tray repair
If I recall correctly from making patches to fill the A/C line openings in my inner fender, the Z body panel thickness is about .030 - .032". So, measure the thickness of the donor panel you are considering. Another consideration will be the rigidity of your donor metal - can you easily form the curves for your patches? An option might be to visit a junk yard and obtain a scrap body part that can be cut and formed to shape. It will probably be within a couple of thousandths of the correct thickness.

Beavers and Eagles in Detroit
If Detroit continues to tear down all the abandoned properties, there will be a lot of "return to nature" to see. Get out the shotguns boys, dinner may be closer than you think.

Taking the doors off my 76 2+2
When it comes time time to re-align the doors, it will be much easier to do at the door pillars. If there are shims installed, be sure to mark them as to what hinge to go back with.

Another MSA door weatherstrip problem
The issues with the PRP door weatherstrips is only one of the most well-documented topics on the forum. Remember - the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Switch to Nissan OE, Vintage Rubber, or possibly Kia Sportage.

About to go off to paint!!!
That could be a rip-roaring bargain, and then again... perhaps not. Resto paint jobs with little/no body work often start at $5-7k and easily get up to $10-12k, sometimes more. They are usually down to bare metal with multiple layers of skim coat to fill and sand out body shape imperfections and dings, sometimes multiple layers of high-build primer - all with hand sanding between layers. Add in body work and panel replacement due to rust and more $ get into the costs.

wire under seat question
Oh crap! You had to go and spoil the surprise.

wire under seat question
The speaker wire is buried in the bundle running along the right side rocker and disappearing into the dogleg. Check your parking-brake and find the button switch under the handle. There should be a single wire attached to it. The switch goes to ground when the parking-brake handle is lifted, this turns on the light on the dash. As a test, ground your mystery wire with the ingnition on and see if the brake light on the dash comes on.

What's in YOUR garage?
Hi Wade, I see you went with a classic 'Vette and not the P-car we discussed - and a substantially lower investment. Looks like a fun project awaits you. At least the drive train is solid, everything else is just details. Little or no potential for tin worms. Have fun. Jim

A New Designed Rotisserie called a 'Roller Hoop'
There's a lot to be said for K.I.S.S. Why make something so overly complex? Just for the sake of doing it? I don't get it.

bought my first Z :)
Welcome to the club and the Z Dizeaze!!! Make a plan for your changes and always focus on getting the reliability and safety aspects addressed first. Remember - if it ain't broke, maybe it doesn't need fixin'. Try to locate some fellow S30 Z enthusiasts in your area for ideas and general counseling. We'll all be looking forward to some pics of your new baby.

Steering rack bushings. Rubber vs urethane.
Beck/Arnley made OE-equivalent replacement rubber bushings, but those are getting hard to find. Rockauto recently had a single unit on closeout, the P/N's you would be looking for are 101-3630 and 101-3631. I found one side at Rockauto and the other on eBay I'm not aware of any 3rd-party rubber coupler. Good luck with your search.

Question for you original guys
Excellent contribution! Interesting to read the cautions regarding bolts going into aluminum or plastics, and others about compensating for friction due to rust or other issues. Finally the best comment - rely on the FSM.

ZCoT usually dukes it out with the Mustang club for best display honors at the Dallas Autorama. We've had the video boxes in our perimeter fence for several years. Two years ago we added pop-up banners to the corners, seen in the photo below. This year we added the HDTV's and a member edited videos and still photos from all kinds of club events into one long video presentation. The best feedback came from the show officials who commented on how thoroughly we man our display and actively engage with the people attending the show, and the fact that we are constantly working to freshen the display each year. We typically have at least 4-6 people in the display for all hours the show is open. We also added a 10' tall teardrop banner this year. The banner will be used at all outdoor events such as Cars & Coffee, the Texas State Fair, ...etc.

That Anniversary Edition may be the car owned by Lois Liconte, a long-time member. Bill Reagan move up to Missouri some years ago. Some of our folks that go to the Branson Z Fest see him from time to time. Mad Mike Taylor is still active and in regular communication with Mr. K. Mike is already planning his annual Fall trip to Japan with a group of fellow enthusiasts. We do love our videos - the box beside my car is one of four around the display with a LCD screen showing continuous run videos. All the wiring runs thru the connecting aluminum pipes.

Hey Steve, The ZCoT is still alive and well, your post regarding Dallas Autorama is most timely. We just wrapped up the show last weekend - ZCoT entered 6 cars in a club display. We came away with 3 Best In Class, 3 Outstanding In Class, and Best Club Display. I managed to pick up one of the Bests. As you can see, the display materials have evolved over time. We added twin 42" HDTV's this year running continuous videos of club activities. I checked out your 1998 photos but did not recognize anyone. The picture of the gold car is seriously similar to mine in the display altho it is a later model '71 - Series 2. Steve Richardson is still around. He left Courtesy last year and just affiliated with a Dodge dealer in Dallas. Jim

73 240z hard to steer at all speeds
Nice looking car. +1 on Wade's comments. It sounds like your steering rack is locking up but you need to have ALL components checked.

My NEXT sports car --- C7 Vette? Boxster?
Wade - pm sent with my contact info. Briefly, I drank the P-car kool-aid for 23 years, going thru 2 944's and the Boxster - all as DD's. The brand is addictive! The reason for change was lifestyle change - I retired in 2008 and spent that year realizing the Boxster was not a good fit for my new activities. My '09 Xterra is my first SUV and a great fit for retirement. Also, getting back to work on the resto of my 240Z made me realize I only needed one sports car in my life and this was going to be the one. Jim

Z's really can fly, (unfortunately)
Glad to hear you are OK (leg injury?), sorry about the car. Hopefully a good body and frame shop can get things trued up and get you a Phoenix car.

Taking off the emblem on the rear quarter pillar
Yep, barrel clips are on the pins on the back of the emblem. A little spray lube can usually help to ease them out. Try to get a thin plastic pry tool to lever the emblem away from the body.
