Possible damage?
i seem to have a slight bit of this going on on my hood, i would suspect it was from someone leaving a screw driver on the little front frame section thingy then tried really hard to close the hood and what i ended up with was a nice little dent similar to the ones you go there, but i know my hood isnt stock because the car had a good little wreck some time ago for sure and it has vents and stuff, and lots of surface rust, but that is easy to deal with when you have a handy dandy sand blaster! :classic: -Zach

Restoration Questions
bondo bad for resale value? woops, oh well too late now i suppuse, . i put a good bit of body filler on my car, i mean atleat 1/2 of the surface of the car has bondo on it, its smooth and i dont think it could have been nearly as smooth without it... would it be better to have a car with a rolly bumpy surface or lots of bondo but smooth as a baby's bottom? -Zach

Priming Question
hey you highly deserve the credit for every right, i was once pretty confused but now i can consider myself one who has an idea of where im at in this process and what i have yet to do. th reason i asked about putting more of the green stuff on was just whether you thought it would matter in the finish if i started the primer on bondo in some places, sealer in others, and bare metal in some as well, but i think what ive learned so far is that this is no problemo. i sit thinking, a little worried that maybe i didnt do everything the way i should have, and that in two years ill be doing this all over again for that reason, but i guess when the time comes ill know how to do it just right. i would like to talk to you sometime, you seem like a really knowledgeable person, and i would like to do my senior project on something of the aspect of body work so im sure you will come handy there, but thats a bit in the future because im a sophomore right now so i got some time before then... man its weird, i got my car on the 7th of april 2002, i can hardly belive ive been working on it for almost a year, and i did most of the work in the last 2 months, i guess thats what happens once you get a license, you suddenly get a drive to get that car done. thanks for the info, ill be sure to let you know how it turns out. -Zach

Priming Question
Whoa man, blew me away with that, i dont think a book could have done any better... thats somethin i wold want to put on my site if its ok with you, im sure it will help alot of once confused amatures that havent done this before... i have another question though, i used a green primer that was a sealer and an etcher i think, i put that on before i did alot of my body work because a big reason was my leaky ceiling which was allowing moisture to get on my roof which i had done hours of bondo work on. i sanded through it to the metal in a lot of the places where i did body work but i only sprayed it on the main shell of the car and not the doors, valance, hood, hatch, or any other parts that came off, should i respray the entire thing (including those other pieces) with this sealer just to have a uniform coating? i also did use a fiber hair product and i would assume that has the same properties as fiberglass might? i hate to make you type anymore, maybe someone else will contribute this time, but after all this work i want to do it right no matter what! -Zach

Priming Question
ok, im FINALLY getting to the priming stage of my car. I already put a layer of etching primer on a while back, but now that all of my body work is just about done, im going to be putting on the gray primer which will be right before my paint if i understand correctly... my question would be this "how many layers of primer should i lay?", "what grit sandpaper should i use before my first layer?", "what grits should i go through and end at?" and i guess ill ask some other sanding and layering questions about painting later when it comes to my topcoat. thanks for the info, -Zach

Ughhhhhhhhhhhhh
I may be young and unexperienced in relationships, but i have come to the conclusion that my car doesnt b!tch at me for what i do, even when i mess up big, i just know "hey i screwed up now i gotta fix it" and theres nothin beyond that. my car makes me happier then women do because i dont have to talk to it on the phone for hours and then pay the bill when it comes... i would do what makes ya happy, but dont go and do something you'll regret over a car well i would still get the car of course though:classic: -Zach

240, 260, or 280? Help
Well, if your interested in handling/performance comparisons then i do believe that the 72' was the fastest of the 240's, but the earlier head designs made more hp. the 73 stock carbs are pretty hasslesome i hear. and after that im not too sure about. if your really interested in the details of changes between the years you should pick up a Victoria British catalog. they have tons of info on em. good luck with your search, i hope you do choose an early Z. it certainly a fast driving, whip around the curves type of car. and its extremely mod-able so the skys the limit. :classic: -Zach

Nuts & bolts preservation
Something i was considering was plating all of the bolts/nuts/small metal parts of my car to make them look better because right now they arent exactly beatiful. The best option i came up with was Zinc plating them, youd have to find a shop that does that sort of thing, not sure that its the prettyist thing but im sure itll keep rust out forever. -Zach

European Turn Signals?
you know, ive never seen any clear ones (those are the ones your talkin bout right?), but maybe some place sells just the lenses for them!?!?! but i couldnt find anywhere that carried the signals so if you want those youll have to buy them from someone with an extra set... -Zach

Z in a MOVIE!
ok well not exactly a movie, but in Sega GT2002 there are a few of the classic Z's, mostly 240s i believe. its a cool game because you can take screenshots of your races and its really well detailed, i love the ZG its very beautiful in that game, i just feel so bad when i smash one into a wall so i can win... oh well you gotta do what you gotta do. i wish there was some way to take those screenshots and get them onto a computer, but probly isnt.. well i just thought you guys oughta know that so if you play it sometime look under nissan's cars section, theres a few in there. -Zach

Body Preservation?
I wish i would have known all this stuff earlier, i already purchased a primer and just planned on using a product called OSPHO for rust prevention, i had a considerable amount of rust on my car, nothing too bad, but most of what needed to be replaced has been... i dont really have a way to sandblast the surface rust sections.. what should i do with those? when you guys use the POR-15 topcoat did you just use a normal primer underneath or what? i still might go with this on the bottom of my car seeing as how there are lots off little surface-rust patches where the undercoating just kinda crumbled off... and i havent even gone over the back half of the car, i would really like to do this all right but im limited on time, money, and equipment to do the work with (jackstands and a blanket on the floor is about as advanced as i get) so if i were to remove the undercoating and POR-15 it up then i would be removing the rest of the undercoating with a scraper, but hey if you guys did it without too many complaints i guess i could go for it, im still not sure im even going to be able to paint out in my unheated garage when 40 degrees is about our high temp up here in SW WA during these months.

Dim headlight....
i do believe that there is a fuse for each light, dont ask me why but there is. i had a dim passenger light and so i switched the fuses around and nothing changed, then i took out both assemblies and cleaned them up real nice and switched the bulbs, re-installed and presto, i had two bright lights... -Zach

Tools of the trade
yeah everything on these cars is metric, unless a previous owner replaced with SAE bolts which always sucks cause it leaves you switching around between tools alot. also when i took my brake lines off a 10mm flared wrench didnt even cut it for me, so if you really need to get some parts of then dont forget a quality pair of vice-grips... also if your gonna be doing lots of body work, and repainting then your certainly going to want to get lots of sanding tools, air powered does certainly save alot of time. also a dremel helps you get into all those nooks and crannies and lets you do really nice weld jobs too:classic: . well that should be a good start on your list... oh yeah, if you got money to spare a blast box and a parts cleaner will help.

FilmZ
the tomohawk Z kit replicates a shelby cobra right? well John Doe drives one in his self titled show on Fox, not sure its a Z kit, but im very sure it isnt an original the way they drive it... -Zach

pics of primer grey 240's?
how long does it take to relize that primer grey is just a simi-flat (dont remember the "technicle" name, i think its something like satin) grey, just get something like that, the problem is gonna come with washing and stuff, dirt and crud is gonna get stuck in there and your gonna end up with a whole lot of badness.... but its your car, i agree grey is a sweet "color" but you might just wanna go with that gloss black if thats what it comes down to. -Zach

Body Preparation
in response to the original question, what i did was take the paint off down to metal and then use body filler on top of the metal then im going to prime over that, it should turn out better that way, even though you can do body filler over primer, but youll just have to prime it again, i would wait and have the body work done then have it primed once, and so on and so forth, keep things in the right order and you should have yourself a better end product, thats what i hope for atleast:classic: -Zach

Help!!! Dohc Head ????
Good god!!! $1500 you say? thats nothing compared to what they are going to run us here in the state, Man i wish they would start selling skylines here as a production car!!! I say we all write letters to nissan of america asking why they havent come up with the bright idea of maybe doing this!!! im certainly going to try my hardest to bring attention to this matter. It just makes me mad that they can be that ignorant, i mean, seriosly just in the Car-Showing business there would be enough demand to make it profitable... jeesh... ive got a letter to write. -Zach

motor on ebay
HMM, seaside eh? thats about 40 minutes from here, i can tell you one thing, Z Cars dont last all that well here either, atleast we dont have the humidity though!!! it rains like mad though, but it can be a really nice place to live, and some of the roads on the way out to long beach and astoria feel like they were made for a Z, plenty of curves with nice long straights right afterward, all on the edge of the Willapa Bay, where the wildlife is Abundant... im thinking Oregon, make that central or further eastern parts of oregon, would be ideal for a classic car lover, and a Sand Duner alike!!! Catch yall lata.... -Zach

Whoa!!!
HAHAHA, oh man, maybe a spider talk section would do wonders for this website huh??? well im guessing my little pets havent mated yet, cause the poor male is still alive, i feel sorry for the little bastard, cause soon enough he will be eatin, i just sit and ponder how they got there, and where they came from, and how the male is still alive... Well my Biology teacher, and fellow students, are in for a thrill tomorrow. I dont know why they could still be scared of it, i mean the female (i call her blacky) is only like 2 inches wide and behind i got millimeter of plastic all the way around... I just thought i would let you guys know of my suprise, my grandmother was bitten by one once, her arm got all bruised up and all of her joints ached for days... ill be carefull not to let that little bugger bit me, and if she does, atleast my arm will look really cool and everyone will think im really brave and stuff, haha. Later everybody... -Zach
