The battle line between individual human health and the "economy" seems to be shaping up even more firmly as states versus the W.H. Cuomo is forming his own high-powered business leader team. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-usa-governors-excl/new-york-forms-team-to-develop-trump-proof-economic-reopening-plan-idUSKCN21Y01V https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reuters

I'm sure that there are economists somewhere who have calculated the "human" cost of shutting down various economies against the human cost of infecting more people. One thing that might come out of this pandemic is the realization that much of what humans do is actually just "busy" work. Essentially useless things that we do just to avoid being bored or to seem to be "working". It's one of the weird things about society that everybody has to "earn" their money through some sort of effort even if the effort produces nothing of value. Way back when i was in high school economists were predicting that society would go to a four day work week because technology was making things more efficient. Instead we're all working more hours and days to produce more crap.

Cuomo's briefing just addressed the NYTimes article. Says that they have not changed their COVID-19 reporting method. The Times article confused things. The purpose of the mitigation efforts is for the healthcare system on one hand, and to buy time to develop a vaccine on the other. The first will give people that get sick the best care possible. Those who would die anyway will die. The second is to save people who would otherwise get the virus and die. If a year and a half is too long to take care of your old people, then bring on the disease. That's the heart of the situation. I enjoyed knowing my grandmother from when she was 87 to when she died at 97. She survived a few illnesses on the way but I don't think that i would choose to expose her at 87 years old just because i wanted to get outside mask-free. Cuomo's briefing has new ideas and instruction every time. I think that the governors will come up with a plan or plans that gets things going to some lower level pretty soon. Something to build on at least.
  4. That is a common problem. You can buy replacement parts. They need to be welded in . Or you could cut and patch. https://baddogparts.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_5&products_id=6 http://www.datsunzparts.com/

Desert Boots. Not even close to what that means today. Edit - actually it means the same thing on the Google. Had some Converse also. Canvas and rubber. So simple.

Did you know that the CDC changed their reporting guidelines recently? https://www.bizjournals.com/dayton/news/2020/04/10/dewinenew-covid-19-reporting-guidelines-includes.html https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/new-york-start-reporting-probable-coronavirus-deaths-cdc-n1184821 It's thought that actual COVID-19 caused deaths might be higher than thought, due to unconfirmed home deaths. https://www.propublica.org/article/theres-been-a-spike-in-people-dying-at-home-in-several-cities-that-suggests-coronavirus-deaths-are-higher-than-reported
  7. You'd think a clutch disc manufacturer would know better. A big old "F" on the backside of the disc? So that nose/projection was jammed up against the crank shaft flange?
  8. The only thing that pushes the fork back is those "fingers". It's a big round spring. Looks like only one finger is working. I'll bet the clutch pedal is really easy to press down. I think your pressure plate is broke, somehow. It's odd though that the fingers are staying down, in the release position. Regardless, it's not right and I think you'll have to drop the transmission to figure out what is happening and fix it. Can't imagine a fix any other way.
  9. One more thing. Those fingers are actually all part of one single sheet of steel. Called a diaphragm spring. It can break and shift, not moving the plate anymore. But if the fingers aren't even the pressure plate assembly is probably broke. Details don't matter much. But they're fun. http://www.tpub.com/basae/90.htm

New York state will have a state-wide executive order about face coverings. He gives clear instruction on what that means also. I think that that has been the big failing in getting people to wear face coverings. No clear guidance about where and when. "If you can't maintain 6 feet distance, pull up the cover." Pretty simple.
  11. I've had the urge to make, and at times been unable to avoid making, snarky comments to people who aren't wearing face coverings even though they are in close quarters. It feels right and wrong at the same time. People who are obviously well off and have to be educated. Only the young, pretty and vain people, worried about looking weird, or the older "don't give a crap" guys. Not sure that talking to the 70 year old people who don't give a crap will have any effect. Super-spreader! is a good one. It sounds like a funny comment. People laugh then realize... Are your parents dead? Kind of cuts, but it's true. Best used on older people without face coverings since their parents are probably in the 80% death probability group. Praying for your grandmother. Who wants to be their grandmother's killer? I asked a a young couple if they just didn't know or just didn't care. The guy tried to play ignorant. Huh? What? It was sad, seeing a grown man play stupid. The girl was young and pretty, she knew better. Killers.
  12. There was a malfunction apparently. Got lucky. "A malfunction prevented the pilot from being automatically ejected too and he was able to land the plane on the runway despite the involuntary departure of his passenger and the loss of the cockpit canopy."
  13. Wonder what's in the box if you buy a "Genuine" Nissan bearing. Edit - a local Nissan dealer might let someone take a look - https://www.courtesyparts.com/oem-parts/nissan-brg-rr-ax-in-43210e4100 https://www.courtesyparts.com/oem-parts/nissan-bearng-wheel-43215e4100 http://www.carpartsmanual.com/datsun/Z-1969-1978/axle/rear-axle-drive-shaft https://www.nissanpartsdeal.com/parts/nissan-brg-rr-ax-in~43210-e4100.html https://www.nissanpartsdeal.com/parts/nissan-bearng-wheel~43215-e4100.html
  14. You said pictures... All of the "fingers" should move together. If you have some that are stuck you might have a broken pressure plate. A piece might be jamming the plate against the clutch disc.
  15. Can you add more detail to what you mean by "step on it"? The clutch pedal? That would be disengaging, decoupling the transmission from the engine. You're saying that the car wanted to keep going at a light, or you had to grind gears to get it back in to gear? Back when it worked. How long did it work for you in the beginning? "Step on it" is what people say about the throttle pedal too. Too slow, step on it! The clues seem to point to bad hydraulics, maybe combined with marginal parts. The master cylinder or the slave, and/or the throwout sleeve. Have you removed the boot from he slave and looked for fluid inside? One inch is not 35 mm. If your throwout sleeve was on the thin side it might be that you need the full 35 mm of stroke. You said it's never been great. With the right parts and setup these 5 speeds can be smooth as butter. If you do what Mark said you might find the the clutch fork gets very close to the back of the hole. It might even be hitting it by now, after some clutch disc wear. Who knows, a look will add more clues. Take some pictures.

There it is then. Obvious. The W.H. financed the virus to try to help the reelection campaign. Undeniable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone who's been in the Portland metro area knows that Hillsboro is considered almost "boondocks": But there are actually some big businesses out there like Intel, with lots of people commuting to work. This is still surprising though. https://katu.com/news/coronavirus/3-hillsboro-police-employees-test-positive-for-coronavirus

Projected total deaths has moved up to 68,000, from about 60,000 a few days ago (the previous update). Not good. The model is adjusted based on the data they receive. They also make assumptions about mitigation efforts. Just one of several models out there. https://covid19.healthdata.org/united-states-of-america
  21. Don't gouge the bearing seat sides when you're driving the old races out. It's easy to do (for me anyway. Unless the PO did it. Yeah, that's it...he did it ). I got some small pieces of brass and aluminum rod to be sure. There's a cut out in the seat to give access to the race. Probably covered in grease so you won't see it.

The Pew Research Center just studied this. The human mind is surprisingly easy to manipulate, it seems. Kind of scary. https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2020/04/08/nearly-three-in-ten-americans-believe-covid-19-was-made-in-a-lab/ Who they are - https://www.pewresearch.org/about/
  24. 16 mm is only half the stroke that Nissan shows. That bigger master might be worth a shot. Any way to rig up a mechanical way to push the fork? I don't know what BMW uses to move their pressure plate, is it a typical clutch fork? Moving the fork would tell you if it's a hydraulics problem or a mechanical problem.
