Replaced Caliper - Shrieking Brake
I replaced my front right brake caliper a few weeks ago. It went rather well, easy install; saved some money doing it myself... Anyways, since then that brake has been making a high pitched shrieking sound when I approach a stop. If i brake harder, it will subside; but the slow easing into the brake causes the shriek. It's really annoying. Any ideas what has caused this? I reused the brakepads in the old caliper; and haven't changed the front left caliper (it hasnt given me any problems). My buddy said machining the disc might help; although I'm not sure if this is neccesary? Might new pads fix it? FYI - the old caliper was aligned incorrectly and rubbing the disc; this is why i replaced it. http://www.trustmymechanic.com/htmlmessage9.html

Paul Newman
Paul Newman is a real humanitarian. Did you know that all profits from Newman's Own go to charity? He also did much to push the organic foods movement with Newman's Organic. He will be missed.

Ordering paint by the paint code
Here's a photo of my rear cargo area (1975 280z) before I worked on it. As you can see, 2 tool-storage compartments and the wheel well (to fit a full size tire). http://s15.photobucket.com/albums/a369/mikewags/Car/?action=view¤t=hatch2.jpg Look into Sherwin Williams Automotive Paint branch. I was able to buy my original light metallic blue from them (#305) they carry all of the original Datsun paint codes: so you just have to give them your color code. You can either buy it in paintcan or spraycan. I think a quart goes for about $45.00 - I bought 4 spraycan's, which was $12.00 per 16oz can.

Hey man, I'm white and skinny!!! What's the freakin' deal?! j.k BTW - I don't think I would refer to your wife as "hot", it seems like the inappropriate thing to tell a friend - but she is definitely beautiful in that photo.

Fay
South Florida here. We had Fay come through this way. It was pretty wet when it hit the keyes, but after that it was mostly just squally weather. We kind of dodged the bullet on that one. Good luck up there!

I second that; not only because he is one of the most helpful users on the site; but because he has one of the best colors on his Z.

pics of Miami Meet 08/16
After looking at the photos, I'm sorry I missed out on the other gray S30. Is that a member of the SFZCC or just a random passer-by?

Message to the GUYS of CZCC
I never would have thought that the thread the girl in question started would have offended her way off of this website. I really didn't even find anything offensive in that thread, besides the lack of approval on "text speak" (but who would get upset over that anyways?) Upon seeing this thread, I honestly thought members were sending her inappropriate PM's or something of the likes. I'll watch what I say here: but the girl seems like a tease that enjoys getting attention. Posting a bunch of revealing photos of yourself on a guy-dominated car website the first few days isn't just inappropriate, but pretty dangerous. Same applies for the "sexiest girl on website" stuff. It's almost asking for some kind commentary or confrontation. If I were her parents I would be worried about my 16 y/o daughter being so revealing to a bunch of strangers.

Welcome to the real world where not everyone shares the same traits and values. Do you even think it necessary that Mike would have to come on here and post something along these lines? It's common knowledge not to be an arse; but you still have to tell some people once in a while. I don't see what the problem is. You almost make it sound like a personal attack against you, the members of this forum, and the owner (Mike). Maybe you think you are sticking up for the website or something --- whatever it is, you're the one being offensive. You've obviously taken what I've said out of context. That being said... I haven't been on the forums for a very long time, but I have always kept it clean and consistent with the theme of CZCC. I'm sorry if I've offended Mike or any of you members for that matter. I think what I said was pretty harmless and needs to be seen for what it is; instead of nit-picked apart and blown out of proportion. I think that is what has happened here.

Are you kidding me? It's common knowledge that people will say all sorts of things on the internet - the kind of things they wouldn't dare say in RL. Maybe it has to do with the lack of accountability that comes with being behind a computer screen. I am not justifying this in any way, but that's just how things are. I'm sorry that stating the obvious has offended you.

They are going to tow my Z!! Part 2
Someone might just be calling in complaints on the car. No offense, but your car is lacking a relatively decent paint-job, and this might lead someone to considering it an eye-sore and calling it in. This is just speculative mind you. Staying within the rules and regulations sounds smart. If you don't drive the car, and just leave it sitting; chances are it will get towed. Be sure to check the tires every so often. You see, the workflow for towing a car will be the cops leaving a chalk mark on the tires; and upon revisiting the car sometime later (few days to a week) they will tow if the tires are in the originally marked position; the car is towed for being left on the street parking for an extended period of time. I've had this happened to a beater I left parked on the street for weeks.

Do people notice you in your classic Z on the road?
S30's are very rare in South Florida, so my car does turn many heads on the road. It's a cool feeling, but after a while it gets a little annoying. This is because the car attracts attention, and you get people staring at it not paying attention to the road, or slowing down around the car to take a look. This also includes cars in front of you slowing down to catch a closer glimpse in their rear-view. When I'm driving the Z, I prefer to zip through traffic, although when people are rubbernecking around you; it doesn't help. Then again, it's probably just the drivers here in Miami. I think this city has the worst drivers in the U.S. Nobody uses turn signals or pays attention; and EVERYONE is on a cell phone while they drive...

Small Intake question
I have seen L28's with a mini filter (like the K&N barrel filters) on the little flange on top of the Valve cover. I figure this is air intake as well right? Is there any improvement in removing the hose that runs from the cold air intake to the top of the valve cover, and replacing it with one of those tiny filters? The only issue I see is that the air that will draw into through the top (valve cover) won't be from the cold air intake, but hot surrounding engine air. Will this allow more of the air from the intake to just go straight to the manifold, or am I grasping at straws here trying to think up ways to gain 10 hp? If you guys have no idea what I'm talking about, i'll scour around for a picture of the motor with it on. Thanks!

Whats with the 8 spoke wheels?
Those "8 spokes" are sweet...Panasport Watanabe's right? I'd love to get a set, but i'm just not willing to drop $800+ bucks on rims anytime soon.

Where'd the extra LBS come from?
I came across this link regarding 240z - 280z weight. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?p=917651 FYI in case anyone else was curious as well.

Where'd the extra LBS come from?
I was reading this write up today: I'm curious. If the bumpers (which seem like the biggest weight addition) were added in 1974 to the 260z, where did the extra weight come from in 1975, making the car go from 2,580 lbs to 2,875 lbs. Thats just shy of 300 lbs, which seems like an awful lot. Could this be the engine (2.8 vs 2.6)?

I suspect this car could have fetched more than it went for if it were a different color...a light metallic blue to be exact
