Radiator coolant additives
I want to keep the metal fan and the 71 did not come stock with the shroud, so that is not an option. Thanks Esprist. I'll give you a call. Metal fan shroud was an option parts for those who claimed his/her car ran hot. So they were listed on parts calalog. MSA has replica one look just like original one. By the way, installing an oil cooler also reduces engine temp=water temp. Esprist

New reproduction tail lamp assembly available
There are very limited production of tail lamp (Euro/JDM type)assembly reproduced in Japan since last October. I bought one set for a friend mine, and look identical to original ones except for Koito name. These are assembly with new harnes(harnes conectors are JDM version, so you need to change that) It costs 76000 Yen in Japan(so it cost appx. $775.51 at exchage rate of 98 Yen=$1 USD Plus shipping. If I have 3-4 express shipped at once, I can supply them at $835 or so after import tax, insurance, and shipping cost). If anyone is interested, please let me know. They look identical to original even the plastic texture, unlike lense sets we see. I wish the cost is cheaper than that considering NOS ones can be found every once a while for $900-1200. (FYI If you bought this in Japan, you would be paying 76000 Yen Plus 5% tax 79800 Tax) Once again, only if you are interested. Esprist

Best Method for Restoring 240z Steering Wheel
I have tried few differnt ways too. And this is the one I spryed 7-8 times to make it look "high gloss". It took several months to completely dry up. Now if you use too much thinner, it will mess up the original wood-color, also. I used the same spray can that was taked about on the thred. Esprist

Radiator coolant additives
Before adding things into your radiator. Please think why it is running hot. If the radiator is partially clogged, it will run hot. If the mixture of the coolant is wrong, it will run hot as well. If the thermostat is half way opens when hot, it will run hot. If the cooling fan clutch is no good, it will run hot. If there is air bubble in the system, it will cause over heat like symptom. So the list goes on..... But the point is, I would try putting the followings: 1.Radiator shroud $85 at MSA 2. use 8 fin cooling fan as Arnie mentioned. (260Z and 280Z) $65? 3. change thermostat to low temp type. 76C dregrees? Call me if you have more questions. I am an ASE Certified Tech. Esprist

VIN ID Plates......Stamping
I do not think he is a bad person at all. He has lots of passion to Z cars. His main business is Plating shop. And he does not sand blast z parts before plating so it shins like a brand new when its done. No please do not get me wrong, and he does nice work. Yet I have had many many issues with him as well. I have been dealing with him in last 4-5 years now, but everytime when I order something, there is problems such as, damaged items due to terrible packing, or something is short. In last few transaction, he said he had a brand new braided upper hose and an used mint condition lower hose for a 240Z, so I bought them. It turned out that upper hose was for a datsun pickup with different angle, length, and curb, and that used ones was a very unrespectable condition with cracked ends and torn braids. Then he changed his words saying he had never said "it was for 240Z", but "it fits 240Z if you cut it to fit". Also if I send 10 items to him for plating, I normally get 7-8 back for some reason. Sometimes, items he said he had never show up for 2 months. I emailed and attatched packing list sometimes with pictures of item. Still the same results. I think that his plating is absolutely beautiful and outstanding, but considering how much I have to go through every order.......well I had enough........I think he might have other issues........ P.S. I heard that Z thearapy does great plating (We all know that their carbs are super good!) And stamping # on a plate can be done at many trophy shop with your title or old plate. If one does not want to do it, go to another one. Also ask shops that restore American clasic cars and see. Esprist

VIN ID Plates......Stamping
I am glad that I am not the only one here. I bought few parts from him that turned out unmatching set. When I called him about it he actually hang up on me after telling me not to take it back. Ever since then, he does not reply to my email, phone calls and all. He does an exellent job when actually does stuff as he said. It takes a lot of patience to deal with him. Knowing all that, I rather concern about this guy like you do. Esprist

1978 Glovebox
- Window fuzzies
I bought mine from Black Dragon. I then drilled holes to match my original door chrome moldings, then used staples for a staple gun. Hand-bend the staples to look original. I bought chrome molding set from Black Dragon, but there were streight pieced rather than curbed up end as original. I checked with a couple of Nissan-dead-stock-suppliers in Japan, and discovered that Nissan made "almost streight ones" in mid 80s and 90s. So I decided to used my old original ones that have beautiful curb to match the door line.MSA used to sell Black Dragon ones, but not anymore. Esprist- Need good Z shop in So CA
I am about to take off rebuilt trans with few hundred miles. All new made in Japan bearings, bushings, perfect syncro. If you are interested. I can even give you 5000 miles or 6 months mechanical guarantee on it. That's how good it is. You can test drive it on the car if you wish before removal. I am thinking about putting an original 4 speed one back on. I am asking $825. It is 280ZX Trans. Close ratio. It is professonaly done. No obligation here by the way. Esprist Please see the pictures.- Transmission front Sim question
Thank you for your quick response. Well now the question is who might have the sim.. Esprist 6.2mm OD 5.4mm ID- Transmission front Sim question
While I was swapping a bell housings off a transmission (Datsun720(1981-83 720 Truck) to 280ZX type, I happend to lose a metal sim at front counter bearing. It is located at front cover. I called Courtesy Nissan, they said that there are 4 different thickness, and are national back order(comes from Japan in 4 months!) Now my question is, do I really need it? Sim size could be different depending upon how far I press in the bearing into counter shaft..... A transmission shop I know told me to use gasket maker rather than thick original gasket to compensate the thickiness......... I am looking for metal sim OD 6.2mm ID 5.4mm. (240Z-280Z ones are smaller in diameter) New or used..... Anyone has experience or recommendation? Esprist- cam oil rail loose
Thanks for the offer Jim - I am going to have a go at repairing it first, but I may take you up on it if it doesn't go well. Also if you replace your cam with newer type cam with oil gallaries, you can remove this oil spayer off the head. Just a thought. Esprist- Are Reproduction parts a good thing or an evil thing
I am in need of a hazard switch and would love to know if there are any reproduction hazard switches made before I succumb to putting in a 30 year old replacement switch. I thought maybe the manufacturer of the reproduction fog light switch is maybe also producing the hazard switch for a '71. Do you know who that manufacturer is? Hopefully this clears up my comments and questions. Thanks and sorry for the confusion. Steve Sorry, I made this fog switch by modifying hazard switch. As far as I know, no one is reproducing them. But I have a piece of advice to you here. The knob on 1969-1971 have different graphic and also have different components inside. But, you can totally swap what is inside of 72-72 into old ones. So my suggestion to you is to buy few used ones for back up. They are farely easy to restore inside. Take it apart, and clean all the conductors. At the end, grease up the spring loaded nipple. Esprist- Are Reproduction parts a good thing or an evil thing
US cars did not come with this options. Please look for an old posts. All the 240Z cars were pre-wired for factory fog lights and switches. This fog light switch is next to impossible to find these days. Esprist- Are Reproduction parts a good thing or an evil thing
Here is an example of fine reproduction part. Can you tell if this is an original? One-off fog light switch shown here. Can a judge spot this? If is is high quality repro-part, that's what it takes in my opinion. Has ZCCA judges alway deducted points off a car because of aftermarket weather strip kit, cartridges in struts(canot even see!), Made in Taiwan bushings, and so on? Esprist- Turn Signal Switch Rebuild?
Here is my recommandation to you. I happend to have only pictures for headlight switch assembly here which is little harder to restore....so as a reference here.....You take everything apart, and clean all the conductors with fine grid san paper and put some grease. Many times, platic nippples that goes up and down with tiny spring pops out, or the liitle hosing that holds them in place collapse. Then you need extra donor parts to replace them. I have done this more than 10 times for my friends and stuff. Oh, at the end, paint with semi gloss paint with white inlays for your final touch. I see some people on ebay doing that, but it is easier that it seems. Good luck! Esprist- 240z Master Vac Hoses
Well, as I mentioned, I am trying different materials on a car to see how they function and how long they last: Plastic, steel, fiber, and cloth. To cover the hose and place them in right position, I have tried sylicone glue. Please remember these hoses expand once they get hot water running through. Also the hose tends to carl up at the end specially when you try to slip it on the inlet. In this picture, I have a piece of shrink tube in small width just in case. So I am still in reseach and development. Esprist- 240z Master Vac Hoses
If you shop around, and spend some time, you could made something like this, too. They are all hand braided and hoses inside are Nissan Genuine parts. Radiator upper hose, lower hose, heater hoses, bypass hose. These are my test units with 4 different pattern(materials) and see how well they work and how long they last. If you could try them, why spend $150-200 for a new old stock hoses that are so expensive and not very dependable in a long run. I am hoping someday, big supplier like MSA could make good reproduction ones and sell them at reasonable price....... Esprist- 240z Master Vac Hoses
This is the one I made. You could buy the hose and put the wires inside. In the first picture, Left ones are original non braided ones. Right ones are reproduction ones (braided) Esprist- 5 Speed transmission identifying question.

Is it for 200SX Later model? I saw your comment from a while back.... http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21054&highlight=200sx+transmission If that engine is slanted, it explaines why the stater opening is up there... Esprist- 5 Speed transmission identifying question.
