  1. One way to do the crank is the Maxima diesel crank. I don't think that is what Dave does though. I think he sends 2.8 cranks to a company in the LA area and they modify (stroke) the crank by changing its throws. Oh, and what can I say, I like boobs!
  2. Mike, i work in Berkeley, so my plan is to stay an extra day and return through Antioch.
  3. Marty, Dave says easily 250 -300 but it's the Torque I'm wanting to see.
  4. Thanks. I have gone wilder in the past. I've built Porsche motors with individual throttle body EFI. But ultimately, I went with a nearly stock '89 3.2 Carrera motor in my 914-6 GT. Having learned from my individual throttle body Porsche experience, I know, that EFI doesn't like wild vacuum fluctuations like you get when all of those throttles open at once. It works, even works better than the best adjusted carbs, but not as well as a modern EFI car. That is the target I'd like to get close to. This is why this car will use only one throttle body. Ive been working out the fuel supply in my mind. It will employ both a high and low pressure fuel pump. The low pressure pump will push the fuel to a surge tank, where the high pressure pump will push the fuel to the injectors. A fuel pressure regulator just beyond the fuel rail will keep the fuel in the proper pressure. I will still be using my 240Z tank, but it will be reworked to have a 3/8 feed and return line. I'm designing two stainless steel lines to go through the tunnel with threaded ends so I can use aeroquip. What? I don't like leaks!
  5. It's time to start the project thread to inform the world and conversely have the world inform me on the installation of my Rebello 3.0 liter stroker motor. I approached Dave a year ago about a year ago with a nebulous idea of what I wanted. I told him I want Torque and horsepower, but not at the expense of driveability. I want my wife, who already loves the way the car looks, to also be willing to get in and ride. Dave suggested his 3.0 liter stroker offering. I had an L28ET block to use, and the rods for that combination are L24. So Dave provided the rods and used my block and crank. But what head? I had two on hand. One, the turbo head from my block, would have resulted in two low of a CR. So that was put up for sale and sold in a few minutes. The other head, a B.C. Gerolomy modified E31 was chosen. This head has big valves, and porting and polishing from back in the day.. B. C. Gerolomy was the go-to guy for cylinder heads when Datsun was tearing up the tracks and the Z car was new. The CR for this head is in the 11:1 range. But this is "static" CR. The biggest problem static CR causes is the starter having to overcome the CR to get the engine turning and started. Some modification was necessary though. Because we are going to be fuel injecting this motor! The plan is to use a non-EGR L28 intake, which has been extrude honed and a TWM throttle body which I had on the shelf. Megasquirt will provide the brains and ill be using crank fired ignition and blocking off the distributor hole. Coil-on-plug using GM coils. Pill be picking up the motor within the week or two. Daves in California, I'm in Nevada so there has to be some coordination. The engine is done though. Here is the car this engine will power. The BRE Spook is the current configuration.
  6. A scan from an old color photo...
  7. Donn has had just about every Porsche you'd dream of driving, even a 918 Spyder. Last weekend he raced his Cayman GTS. We still talk all the time. He is heavy into bicycles now too... btw Arne, I sold my 84 Chiffon White 911 Carrera last year to a guy in Germany. 60K miles. You wouldn't believe what they paid me! Let's just say well north of Original sticker!
  8. Yep. What he said... ^
  9. Unhook the linkage and try to move each throttle individually. Spray the crap out of them with your favorite goop. I would say 95% chance they can be rebuilt. Mikuni or Weber? If Weber you can use Hypojets after the rebuild. Much more accurate adjustment.
  10. Check out this car. BMW 2002 with Honda S2000 drivetrain. It's being built by Original Customs in Grand Rapids Michigan for a customer in NorCal. They have a website and a Facebook page. The swap is done and moves under its own power. The stock HP and Torque numbers have already been reported here but the motors real claim to fame is its 9000 rpm redline. Nice to see someone using this interesting engine in a Z!
  11. Sweet! Are you a 914World member Dennis?
  12. Carl Beck is the Florida guy. Still around. not sure of the other two. Ive had the same 240Z for decades. The Porsches came about because private industry pays lots for than academia. As an aside, I've had my eye on a 308 sitting outside a house in South Reno in a cul de sac for a couple of years now. I'm getting better at avoiding projects though...
  13. Hey! Who're you calling old???
  14. I agree with Jeff G. LN Engineering is Charles Navarro's company. Jake Raby owns Flat 6 Engineering. They have collaborated on many projects over the years. Jake does engine workshops for Porsche all over the country to teach how to repair the IMS. Another potential problem is the water pumps. The late WC cars use a plastic vane to move coolant. If it shatters, your engine is most likely junk as the tiny plastic pieces find a new home that will confound cooling going forward. I don't mean to sound like I don't like these cars. I'm a 20 year PCA member and have been on the board of two different regions. I love them. They're great cars. But you asked, and the answer is there can be significant problems with a small percentage of cars. By significant I mean $.
  15. Yes. MY 2008 and older. Google Charles Navarro and Jake Raby. They invented and patented the fix. Cardinal sign is an oil leak.
  16. I'm both a Z guy and a Porsche guy. I have done the newer ones but they have lacked the soul my old air cooled 914-6 has and the Z has been with me so long the kids tell me they will not allow me to sell it. I just saw a beautiful Fairlady for sale with a distressed seller on the Z Registry on Facebook. It was closer to the East Coast IIRC. As for the newer Porsches. Avoid anything older than 2009 or, if you do get something older than that look for a documented IMS repair. If you're thinking Cayenne, the ones older than 2009 use plastic coolant tubes underneath the intake manifold that crack and leak. Porsche per their usual MO admits to nothing while they come up with a fix...
  17. Thanks for the replies. I have a good 240Z tank in the car. So armed with these responses, my plan is to retool the tank with 3/8" inlet / outlet fittings and use a surge tank and a high and low pressure pump. I misappropriated the schematic for visualization...
  18. So my Rebello 3.0 liter stroker is done and it will be MS3 injected with crank fired ignition. It occurs to me that there may be dramatic differences between the 240Z and 280Z fuel tank and fuel delivery. I'm wondering what you guys who've done this have done with your systems. Besides the obvious high pressure pump of course.
