new and looking for my dream Z car
I'd strongly advise against cutting the roof, Bart. It's pretty flimsy the way it is.

Loud ticking/knocking noise.
Recheck your valve clearances.

New to site but not to Z cars!
No, please don't try to start it until you have searched here and found the thread "awakening the sleeping beast."

You've got a car with good bones to work with. Send us more pics as you progress in bringing her back to life.

Engine Color Paint Suggestions
That combo would be attractive but perhaps a bit dark. A Datsun blue tempered with a bit of bay color would also look good.

Front End Refresh - oh oh
Well, heck. Driver's side LCA & TC rod is good on 721. Wish I'd have checked in here sooner...

Oh boy, what did I do now......?
Just purely a guess, but I suspect the "F" and "R" would indicate front and rear, whilst the numerical designation would indicate spring height unloaded in inches. Just guessing...

Triple Mikuni Solex 40 on L3.1 Stroker
You could always go with a Giken head. If you can find and afford one....

Newb about to pick up a 280ZX
That "virgin" can be found in the West. Concentrate your efforts west of the Big Muddy and you'll likely have some success. If you find a car, let us all know. Maybe one of us can help by providing an eyeball or two for you.

build a 260Z?
Somewhere on the passenger side of the block you'll find a stamped indicator: L24, L26, L28 with the motor number following. My Z is in the shop so I cannot visually verify this, but memory sez I'm correct....

potential setup
Back when 721 was alive, I installed a ZX 5-speed and R200 3.90 diff. As the trans is a close-ratio unit, I really enjoyed it and the combination really woke up the car, although it wasn't really asleep. That truly is a delightful combination for any S30 out there.

You gonna go back w/920?

Newb about to pick up a 280ZX
$500 - $800 would be my estimate. If you see surface rust like that you can pretty much say there's plenty of rust you cannot see. And rust repair will eat any budget alive!

new and looking for my dream Z car
Welcome, Bart. Your search for a Z is commendable, however, be very aware the cars can be money pits - especially if you buy a rust-bucket. That is basically the first and only consideration you should have. Is the car sound, or reasonably so? Forget the engine. Forget the interior. It's the body that is key. Take your time and don't jump on the first one you look at unless it's preeemo and relatively rust-free. Pay more for a good one and you'll end up spending less in the long run. Enjoy your venture!

Motorsport Flush Mounted Mirror Kit
Those don't look anything like the Sentra mirrors. And with a weight of one pound, I'm not real confident of their durability. But, hey, for $30 order one to see if it'll fit for you.

Motorsport Flush Mounted Mirror Kit
The proper Sentra, I've been told, is '89-'90 Sport Coupe. Apparently the 4-door version isn't the same. I'm gonna have to fab mounting brackets.

Rear Sway Bar Question
Not anything to be concerned about. Carl and gnosez have it right.

Motorsport Flush Mounted Mirror Kit
I'm gonna put Sentra mirrors on this Z. My Z guru tells me they hold adjustment superbly and don't vibrate. I think the MSA mirrors are a "copy" of the Sentra's, but not sure.
