  1. I guess it's kinda like those thrill-rides at the amusement park that only last 5 seconds, compared to the roller-coaster that go for two minutes. After waiting in line for an hour, 15 seconds isn't much. Chino 240Z must prefer the drawn-out tension of a road course.
  2. That's what I have, Les, but I add links to it sometimes. texasZ-- the link I posted earlier was the OLD link to your collection. I don't have a copy of the ultimate links on the Internet. Only on my computer.
  3. the last time I was in Texas, I saw a mile-marker on an east-west highway outside of Houston that said 500.
  4. I just put on a glasspack on my exhaust because it was too loud with just the coffee-can muffler on it. Now it has a nice quieter buzz-hum, and it gets just loud enough around 4000 ROM, which is good for me. Now I can hear the radio. I still have the coffee-can muffler on it, but I'm thinking about a second glass pack in place of the muffler and a double pipe resonator tip.
  5. There was 'the ultimate links page,' but that is just a long list of links. I think it's gone now, but I saved a copy on my computer. The collection you might be referring to was 800 Megs at last count: http://www.pape.ws/allan_and_rosanne/Z-Car_Stuff/
  6. IMO, if it still has those Z lines, and an L- series engine it probably still is a Z. A snorkel hood or such changes the lines too much for meOh- the front has to be pointy too. I'd still like to see some bumpers, even the thin 240Z types. I'm not into a lot of chrome tho.
  7. You should read this document on ZGarage: http://www.geocities.com/zgarage2001/engine.html?20051 Basically, he recommends the MSD Blaster-2 coil (.73 ohms) #8202
  8. Will- That's one of the documents that I read that was confusing. But I generally decided that the radios that transmit at more than 1/2 Watt, belong to the GMRS family, and that you can ONLY use the FRS channels on that radio- unless you have a GMRS license. The radio's electronics know what channel you are on, and regulate transmitting power according to the band the channel belongs to. thx
  9. I get more confused the more I read about FRS radios. The FRS radio is supposed to be used for very short distances. TWO MILES is a VERY SHORT distance?? So why do they make FRS radios with a 10- mile range, unless the 10 miles is for the GMRS channels. O - L... At least I'd have the potential for long-distance transmission, like for emergancies.
  10. That's right. I need my hands dree to drive, so I won't be able to key the mic button to talk. All My stuff has a mic jack. It's too bad you can't use a telephone headset. thx.
  11. What are you doing for a VOX mic?
  12. Are any of you people using those family radios for communication? Either in the car or on foot? I just got a Motorola 6200 and it seems to work best between 50ft - 1/2 mile (in the neighborhood). Haven't had a chance to try it on the road. Had it on hand at the airshow last Sunday, but only to listen. I would like to get the new Motorola 7100 radio. Do you people have any favorites? Models to avoid? thx
  13. Go visit http://www.fibreglast.com where they have loads of information about fibreglassing stuff.
  14. I think there are 'stains' in the paint on my hood finisher panel, (below the windscreen). It looks like little spots maybe from oil, or dirt of something else. I've tried to scrub the paint woth soap & water, and it didn't seem to help, and I don't think I want to try anything stronger yet. I did a little sanding with 100 grit to get some roughness out, but I don't think it helped either. I might try a little mineral spirits next, or is there something that might get the stains out? thx
  15. Yes, very nice. I wonder what was don't with the bumpers. All that work could go down the drain with just a bump from the front or the back without the protection of bumpers ( or something). thx
  16. Very cool video.
  17. I mentioned the Audi Quattros because it's the first thing that comes to mind about the rallies from back then. But don't forget to include the Cosworth Ford Escort, and other cars. they were all capable of dancing through the dirt.
  18. thanks. I like the twisty bits and the night racing.
  19. remember the old Audo Quattros, and watching them in rally races on TV? That's what I call cool (rally) racing. I'm interested if anybody knows of any videos that can be bought of the older rallies. I'll check out eBay probably. thx
  20. Do you think it would also fit on a 280Z? Did it plug in directly with no mods? thx
  21. On a 280Z, there is a little wire going to the starter solenoid. It attaches via a blade connector on the solenoid itself, & it's probably easy to pull off. If it's off, the starter motor won't go. It's possible that if you were fooling with the power cables, you could have easily knocked it off. Q.E.D.: Make sure this little wire is connected. thx
  22. where under the car?
  23. I was checking the circuit for the coolant sensor on my 78 280Z, and it didn't check out right: One connector from the sensor goes to the ECU, pin 13, like it should. The other one goes to ground. The circuit diagram shows the second wire going to ground, but when I plug in the coolant sensor with the engine running, the engine stalls, and then won't start again. I checked the circuits according to the EFI 'bible', and the coolant sensor seemed to check out fine. But still the engine won't run with the sensor plugged in So I have the coolant sensor unplugged, and the engine runs extra rich (about 10 MPG). Any thoughts on what might be happening? I put in a new sensor over the winter. My next move would be to take the car to the dealer, and I bet the 'expert techie' will look at the hood and say, " You need a new AFM" ($600!!) thx
