  1. the 280ZX had spindle cup that don't stick out as far. They were on my 6-spoke ZX wheels. You may be able to use those. But on my Z, I cut off only the ends and glued them to the wheels for a flat look. The downside is that the spare will need the longer cap, or you need to carry one, in case you need to put the spare on the front. Otherwise the spare has a flat cap too. th
  2. Good images. However I'd put mine on on upside-down so the tags will show in the bottom corners. There should be no difference in reading the phrases tho.
  3. If you wanted to go with decals, then you could say that size is no limit! I have large sheets ( 36x36 inch) of magnetic stuff that I stick bumper stickers onto, and then cut them out. They stick well on the bumpers and over the peeling paint spots. :classic:
  4. I'd be surprised if tere wasn't a member here that's involved with injection- moulding or plastic- forming of some kind to help us make a mold or whatever for a suitable license plate. How about you engineers drawing up a design for a frame? thxZ
  5. That looks like some kind of guide to align the dor latch. When you say Dovetail, I immediately think of the ones on the hatch lid (like on a 280Z).
  6. tw- I need to do mine too! too bad you couldn't just put the old one in a machine and have it copy one in alloy. BTW- I see people doing that quoting thing all over the Internet. It's been happenning for many months now.
  7. Don't you think "My other car is a classic Datsun Z" is too specific? Granted, if you have a Z you probably have another car that this one can go onto, so this phrase would be a good choice ( for the club) to buy in quantity. And what about the people with Frogs ( 350Zs?) Those aren't really "classic" or "Datsun." Otherwise, we should come up with a phrase that would work on more cars or for more people. That is, unless there is a provider of custom license plate frames that will handle personal choices for the printed text, and ship it directly to you, with Mike getting a cut. Personally, I'd go for one that specifically goes on the Z (like just classicZcar.com) thxZ
  8. Why not just buy a sticker ( or a sheet with several different phrases) from the club store that you put on a generic, blank frame? The stickers might already be available, or much more feasible for the club to offer. You might even consider this item: http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/lights/8dde/ thxZ
  9. I agree will with Geezer that trying to cure the product on a plastic part will probably (melt) the part, but I wasn't suggesting that you toss a plastic part in an oven and leave it sit in the high heat- the normal way of curing the coating, so that's where the heatgun might help. Flash-heating only the surface of the part may give a useful result, but will have to see. When I try coating a metal part, I will cure it in increments to see if you can see the difference. thxZ
  10. Why would you put in a quoted message in your signature, when you can just type in the text?
  11. When I go to car shows, I'll get dozens of people telling me how awesome the 280Z is as a sportscar ( even other people showing cars/musclecars) but then I'll get almost no votes- even when I enter in the foreign car class. The Porsche or Mercedes will get all the votes.
  12. Did I suggest that she buy these? NO. I posted the link for reference purposes. GO READ the message E.
  13. e_racer- Why did you quote xray from a totally unrelated topic? thxZ
  14. What ever. Girls seem to change their mind a lot. No need for coffee- I've been up since 6, and I've had my lunch already. What's a McKrack?
  15. Did you get an award? Any votes, or did the Porsche get all the votes? I'm interested in how people regard Zs in relation to others, like maybe American muscle cars or cars of the same era. thxZ
  16. Maybe we should see what Darbji thinks, not others.
  17. So? Maybe she would like those. I didn't know you had changed your nickname to Darbji
  18. I saw these on eBay today: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-240Z-280Z-Dynalite-15x7-mesh-wheels-rims_W0QQitemZ260166234214QQihZ016QQcategoryZ140732QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  19. Dogma- The chrome product discussed here is what you were referring to. You spray it on, dry it, and then bake it at 500-700 F for ordinary things. You are supposed to bake it longer or hotter for different things. like exhaust parts.
  20. Dogma- I didn't twist my drip rails. The PO must have twisted the drip rails off for painting (and I'm surprised he did that much as it looks like a $99 paint job) and put them back on twisted. I've been trying to untwist the back ends since I got the car. Tast was a typo for 'The last.' thxZ
  21. Who's using a car cover? Unless it fits perfectly with no way for the wind to get inside, then it'll blow off. Mine has a plastic gromet on each side, but the only thing you can do is to hook a rubber cord under the car to the two grommets, but it's not fun to lay on the ground when it's raining. I've tried pony clamps on the four corners of the bumpers. I thought it would be easiest to tie hooks/clasps directly on the side grommets and hook those under the rocker panel seams, but there's nothing under the car to hook onto. Has anybody thought of another way to secure a car cover? thxZ
  22. I got my 1 oz. bottle of stuff yesterday. The instructions say to spray it on for a 2 mil thickness, then dry it at about 150F, and then cure/fuse it at 500-700F for about an hour, then buff. So it doesn't look like using a heat gun on plastic would work, but I will try a little experiment with a plastic part and a small metal part to see what happens. thxZ
  23. If you do get a chrome strip twisted, can you untwist it? Tast last 1/4 on both of mine are twsted. thxZ
  24. On my 280Z, there are a few groups of wire for hazard switch, radio, defroster, antenna, etc. that go from the console to the firewall area. The only problem on my car is that the PO just stuffed things up there and it's a bloody mess, a rat's nest, and you can't even tuck the carpet under the heater. Are all those bundles of wires supposed to go through the heater area with some kind of organization? should the wires be neatly organized in smooth lines like the rest of the wiring that's been taped? I may need to spend a week or two untangling things. :devious: thxZ
  25. Will that thing really fit 240Z - 260Z - 280Z - 280ZX ? :hurt: I wouldn't be surprized if you saw fuel injection parts on eBay labeled "240Z - 260Z - 280Z"
