Yes on the gas jug. Ideally Dave is right but if you have a good amount of fuel in it should be ok like you do. Stuff a rag lightly around the neck of jug. BEFORE YOU START MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A FIRE EXTINGUISHER HANDY! Just in case. I'd even go as far as have a fan pointing Towards the can to ensure any raw fumes escaping are blown out the garage. Looks like you have it in there.
  2. Yep exactly. I have set just as described. Never used them but just in case I found the odd wheel with a weird offset.
  3. As many hours I waste looking at the schematics that you could probably explain to me in less than 30 minutes worth it. ? Maybe I'll bring the wife and make a weekend out of it.
  4. Good update and good of you to swing by. Speaking of swinging by, if I drove up to your neck of the woods, can I pick your brain on some wiring schematics I'm working on. Maybe over a weekend sometime.
  5. 70-74 I think use the same seat brackets. I'm forgetting now maybe 70 is different. I think all the 280z use a different seat rail, but you should be able to unbolt any seat from the rail and use any seat with any rail from 70-78.

You should be able to blow one way, but not the other. If not carb cleaner may clean it up. Skip all this for now in my mind. Get the lines cleaned out.

The other item is the fuel damper.
  8. Let me know. I just got insurance on my car Friday. Get my tag Monday. Dave Stopped by today wirh his nice 75. His AC works awesome!
  9. I was under the impression you have to use new gland nuts with tokicos? Unless your repalacing existing tokicos.

Yes and flexible. Ace hardware has a good selection of music wire. Also weed eater line is something else you may have around the house works well.

So you put the tank back in now? Or is it still out? When you say act up you mean tank pressure or your original problem of losing fuel pump pressure?

I'm pretty sure an easy test for this was to leave the gas cap loose and go for a drive a bit hard with the tank off now. It's possible to be an issue but it was your third trip around the block that this happened right? That is a bit quick in my mind, but again this FI car and not carbs. I applaud you for staying up late and reading the FSM. Are you on your own or is your dad helping you some?

Easy or hard to blow? I mean obviously it won't be like exhailing. But not like trying to suck a Wendy's frosty through a straw!
  14. I would go as far as removing them one by one, test it, steel wool each end of every fuse and lightly crimp each prong holding both sides of every fuse block. I was having weird issues with my fuse block in my 71. VisuallY they looked great but were making poor contact.
  15. Oh your fuse block is on the passenger side. I bet you blew a fuse.

This one. So you had a hard time blowing air with you mouth.? Did you try both lines and notice a difference? The larger line is the supply, smaller is the return.

Oh didn't realize you only had the one pump. Might be easier to use a small gas can now put both lines into the neck of the gas can with the larger line closer to the bottom In an early post you said it seemed difficult to blow through on the tank. Did you use your mouth? It should be fairly easy to blow both lines with a small rubber hose.
  18. Sounds like fusible links to me. Passenger interior?

Yep what I was thinking too.

I'm pretty sure that line is for the evap fume line to charcoal canister. I honestly don't think it has anything to do with you issues. You probably need to check the service manual to see if that is supposed to be there or not. Honestly, since the tank is out, take a 5 gallon plastic tank fill 5 Gallons of gas in your tank now that it is out of the car. Use your old fuel pump with a battery hardwired to the pump to pump it back into the empty 5 gallon plastic jug. Slosh the tank a little to simulate driving. Listen for any pump noise change or slowing flow. Have a fire extinguisher close by just in case. Do this outside not in the garage.
  21. If it's stuck open for some reason.
  22. Have you replaced the air bypass yet? Also have you cleaned the contacts going to the ECU? Grounds are also important to be good and clean. Also clean the TPS connection as well. I know it's hard as I think one thing and tend to type another, but be very specific on your question.
  23. JSM replied to SeKcGamer's topic in Help Me !!
You didn't need to drop the tank yet. You just needed to disconnect the wires from the new fuel pump and run it set up the way it was using an extra battery to run the fuel pump. If you wanted to run it out of a gas can it would have been much easier at the front of the engine. The larger line is the supply line and the smaller is return. That's all there is to it.
  24. Cool. Learned something new. I don't mess with struts very often. I've taken them, apart on parts cars, but on the cars I've had I have not needed to replace. I will need the info for this car.

It will be alright My test above, running direct power to the new fuel pump, will help you isolate it it is a blockage or an electrical issue. You haven't eliminated the possibility that the Ecu or AfM may also be causing intermentant issues. I would agree with your father in this instance. For that price you could likely find a really good clean used one. Heck, I had huge rust issues in my sons old 280z and I never even sealed it. Acid wash and lots of water to flush. Ran a hair dryer for about an hour to dry it and threw some motor oil for a quick coat. Installed and filled with gas and never looked back. siteunseen had a good process:
