Ditto that.....my 73 is the best driver, but had to drop another engine with round tops and a few other goodies to make it something special. I love 'em all......miss seeing your red avatar. Guy

Thanks Arne.....always learning something new. Which brings us to what is the best Z to own. My conclusion is even though the early Series I and II's are the most collectable, the Series III is a much better Z to drive with just a small amount of engine mods to bring it up to snuff.

Hi Carl......Thanks for clearing this up for me.......I thought there was Series I and Series II.......never knew the 72 and 73 were considered Series III. Now it makes sense. This is the Safari Gold car I brought to ZCON....HLS30 29,832........ A Series II. Regards. Guy

My May 1971 240Z came with the early console and "A" tranny, vertical defrost but no tailgate vents. I have the early angular half shafts and straight mustache bar and short (early) driveshaft. The hole for the shifter is the early opening. I don't have the 240Z on the pillars.The steering wheel is the late type with holes. The engine came with the early E31 head. The tool compartments are late type in the back with metal door hatches. Many have told me this is a transition Z. Carl says January 1971 was the last Series I month, but what would you call this car.....Series I or Series II? It certainly has a Series I drive train, the body is half I and half II. Someone please tell me what to call it ! Guy

Steve.....Don't you think a 9 lb. Flywheel is going to be a pain to drive in traffic.......the light flywheels rev quicker, but aren't they a chore in stop and go traffic? What's your thoughts after driving both. Just a thought. Guy

Clutch recommendations
I use the stock L24 clutch and pressure plate with my fully modded L28 engines.......no problem! Make sure you use the L24 collar and clutch arm off of your current tranny, or if you use the new 5 speed collar and clutch arm, use an L28 clutch and pressure plate.

Advantage of F54 over N42 block?
Eiji just installed a 9 lb. Flywheel on a his 280 driver on my lift a couple weeks ago. He went back with the stock clutch. With stock, you know what fits with what. KISS is a good practice. You won't need a high performance clutch with what you're building IMO, but ask Eiji.

Advantage of F54 over N42 block?
The N42 is a fine block......many prefer it (Eiji at Datsun Spirit does). Either will work for any application even though some claim more strength in the F54. Use what you've got IMO.

Like the time I put a new set of Nissan points in my Z and it wouldn't fire...........drove me crazy...... till I noticed they put a small piece of paper between the points for protection. Cars run better when they have fire to the plugs!

E Ticket.....Curious about the SAE number.....never seen that. Does it make adjustments for favorable conditions like dense air and cool temps? Which number is correct to compare apples to apples?

Gasket for timing chain tensioner??????
It seals metal to metal........Nissan recognized this and quit supplying gaskets years ago. Don't use anything. Just bolt it up and torque to spec.

Eiji will build you a beautiful motor. I hope you use the stock Datsun blue on the block. Really glad you picked Eiji......he lives and breathes Datsun L series motors. Good choice! Guy
