  6. Worked on it some more last night. Removed 1/3 of the suspension for the wheels to look right. Added the spoiler, rear lights and C pillar badges. <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa58/rvae34/IMG_6955.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa58/rvae34/IMG_6956.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa58/rvae34/IMG_6957.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa58/rvae34/IMG_6958.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a>
  7. Hey there. This is Brandon. Just wanted to show a couple pics of the 240z model in progress. So far I have done most of the engine, the watanabes, and the body. The body was painted with two coats of primer after sanding the entire model. Then 5 coats of camel yellow with wetsanding (1200 grit) in b/t coats. Then 3 coats of clear with wetsand (1500) in b/t. Painted the gap lines after masking them all off. Followed by 1 more coat of clear and final wetsand with 2000 grit and hand buffed then waxed with 3M compound. It looks better than most cars The trickiest part was masking off the black rubber around the front and back windows and then masking a smaller chrome strip within it to replicate the real cars trim. <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa58/rvae34/IMG_6860.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa58/rvae34/IMG_6861.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa58/rvae34/IMG_6863.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa58/rvae34/IMG_6916.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa58/rvae34/IMG_6920.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa58/rvae34/IMG_6924.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa58/rvae34/IMG_6932.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a>
  8. You guys have some great stuff! The Z Car Garage site is awesome. That's just what Doc said "Flat top pistons, shaved heads with his cam shims (to keep the chain tight) special valves, Isky reground cam, aluminum flywheel and SU's with SM needles and he thought it would turn high 13's. I also love the web that XRAY provided on the Stroker Motor. That's as good as it gets for instruction for anyone building any L series motor for the first time! Guy
  9. We are going to do some trick stuff to the head. I'm not sure exactly what since I'm leaving that up to "Doc" as in the Z Doctor in Roanoke Virginia. He's sending the head off (not sure where yet but will update) to get some trickery done. Some kind of flat top valves???? Once again I'll let you know when he let's me know. gUY
  10. I think I've decided to build an L28 block with 10 to 1 flat top pistons. We're thinking about the P 90 head shaved (shimmed cam towers) with Isky cam (reground Datsun). I'm going to start off with SU's with SM needles. I'll do an aluminum flywheel with the Centerforce clutch. The engine will be painted stock colors and should look like the stock 2400 when finished. This combo should give me some good pop with a chance to upgrade the intake to either Webers or fuel injected throttle bodies when the checking account fills back up! I'm going to put the R 200 (3:53?) rear and hopefully convert to CV's. How's that sound for starters? Appreciate all of your input as usual. Guy
  11. Maybe $5-10k. I know that's a bit vague. What are the best options for both N/A and FI in those ranges?
  12. The BMW is my sons car. He is documenting the restoration. All the pictures on the link are his photography
  13. The tires are 225 50 16.
  14. The 71 Safari Gold is progressing very nicely. The rear quarter is being cut out as well as the front passenger side frame rail and front clip. Those areas are being replaced with perfect rust free components that we found after several months of searching. Here is a link to the resto gallery http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/sets/72157603350695459/
  15. I am looking to build a high performance motor for street use to be installed in my 71 240 resto project. I am on the East Coast and am thinking of possibly building a stroker motor. What year and type of block/head would be best for this? I want to use the L28 and am considering triple webers, cam, etc. Any insights and advice would be much appreciated as well as some direction on where the best place to get said parts would be. Thanks in advance, Guy
  16. There are quite a few in the Richmond area. Probably see a few every month. What I never see are 510's. I can count on two hands how many I have seen in my life other than the 3 my pops had when I was a kid.
  17. Thanks everyone for the replies. I already have the kits. 1973 Skyline GTR and the Z432. The pics have helped and I will try doing some searches as well. Will post pics when they are done.
  18. I am building some highly detailed models of classic JDM cars. Mid 70's skyline and a Japanese 240Z. Both kits have the S20 DOHC motor. I also ordered two sets of 1/24 scale Watanabe wheels. One set deep dish and one set normal. This way I car do staggered on both kits. Please post pix of these JDM cars but more specifically, the engine both in and out of the S30 cars. High res pics of the engine alone would be terrific, but I am having trouble finding them. I want to get proper colors for the block, trans, and front covers etc. I will be doing linkages, wiring and hoses etc. If anyone is interested in a replica of their specific cars for a fee, please let me know. I have building models for 20+ years. Thanks, Brandon
  19. Here are just a few pix. I didn't take as many as I like as the lighting wasn't very good. I got as many as I could of Eiji's car. Amazing!!!! My pops white 70 took 1st and the Green 72 took 3rd. The silver S30 is the pix took 2nd. Fortunately Eiji did not enter his car in the show <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/1682344749/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2211/1682344749_a44e295b60_b.jpg" width="1024" height="683" alt="IMG_6344" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/1682354301/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2019/1682354301_553ea77c54_b.jpg" width="1024" height="683" alt="IMG_6346" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/1683175796/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2321/1683175796_9aeb362c8c_b.jpg" width="1024" height="507" alt="IMG_6287" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/1683180774/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2045/1683180774_ab9e18730f_b.jpg" width="1024" height="683" alt="IMG_6299" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/1682315507/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2224/1682315507_5313bef221_b.jpg" width="1024" height="683" alt="IMG_6330" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/1682340071/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2407/1682340071_a801a9b001_b.jpg" width="1024" height="683" alt="IMG_6324" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/1682335465/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2345/1682335465_bea31a8941_b.jpg" width="1024" height="683" alt="IMG_6364" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/1682397303/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2212/1682397303_d79eaaf8ef_b.jpg" width="1024" height="774" alt="IMG_6337" /></a>
  20. This is the son.... I do wish he would put watanabes on as they are my fav. The tires are 225/50/16
  21. You're not kidding......... He did a fabulous job (everything to perfection) and he's first class as a person too! I stay in touch and hope if he's back East he'll stop by to see all my toys. Guy
  22. No....... The green 72 has it's own Panasports (and so will the Safari Gold 71). The tires are 225-50-60 . They seem to fill the wells the best. My son wants me to move up to the W.N.s on the next restoration. but he's not putting up the bucks (but he does take a damn good picture). Pops
  23. It is very similar to the 72 green car. This one was restored by the previous owner who is a member. It is stock except for the spoiler and wheels. The car is immaculate!!! Here is a link to all the Z photos. http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/sets/72157600346077563/
