  1. I agree whole heartedly......in the 70’s, these cars were driven off the show room floor and immediately began the transition to being personalized to become a car to be driven. Stock restored Z’s are cool to look at, but if you have one beside it with some goodies to bring it up to snuff, you are going to climb in the modified Z every time. In the 70’s, you noticed the lowered, spoilered, wider wheels and tuned exhaust Z’s with a lot more respect than the stock cars. John Morton and Pete Brock and Bob Sharp were responsible......these cars are easy to modify and a blast to drive hard.......they are all cool cars, just some cooler than others!
  2. I don’t think Nissan could have designed an uglier rear ram rod bumper than the silver car in the first post. Ralph Nader would be proud!
  3. I’ve lost track too and I’m his Dad. I’ve raised a monster, but this is a really cool car.....when I think about, they have all been really cool cars.
  4. No Rich.....I won’t make this ZCON, but hope to meet you sooner or later. We just missed each other in Atlanta last year. Best of luck this year to you and Jayhawk....If you don’t win the big one, I’ll call foul! Regards Guy
  5. No Jayhawk, I was talking about the other Z’s thinking about entering Stock Class......they are the ones that need to slap a set of Panasports or Watanabees on and go for Street Modified. I think this car is pretty well a “shoe in” for that big piece of shiny wood and brass......good luck.
  6. Won’t be too hard to confirm that it’s real!
  7. I don’t think I’d want to compete in the class (“Stock”) that this car will be in at Zcon this year. You may want to throw on a set of after market wheels and go “Street Modified”. Congrats on a perfect Z Rich. How does it feel to be “The Best in the World” in something? Guy
  8. Thanks Blue...never was too good in history. It does look like a very restorable Series I though, and good shells are getting harder to find.
  9. Looks like a solid Series I to me. A new dash is a great start to a really nice resto. Glad I have no garage space, but Steve, this one could be a nice resto for about 20M in addition to the 15M. IMO However it is missing that 2400 valve cover.
  10. I didn’t know that you could take 2mm off of an N47 head. Are you sure you got valve clearance with an .080 cut?
  11. I love this site!
  12. 3012 are the same as 3015.....according to an older thread. I’d love to have those two.
  13. 3015 or 3016 are the serial numbers for front and back.
  14. Thanks Jim.....front or back....doesn’t matter.....just knock off the spacer on the rear.
  15. I have a blown rear Tokico shock in my Ground Control sectioned coilovers. Problem is, Tokico shocks are no longer offered. I ordered a pair of Koni yellows for 240Z front ( front shocks are used in the rear of sectioned GC 240Z coilovers). The Konis are about 3/8 inches too tall and the gland nut won’t engage the threads in the top of the strut tube. If anyone has a Tokico strut laying around, or knows where I could find one, I would love to buy it. I can get by with one, but would like to replace both rears. Thanks Guy

  17. I don’t recall bottoming out at any time. May be just a bad seal or something. The only way I found out, there was a rattling sound coming from the strut at low speeds. I’ve never blown a strut before, at least not that I knew of......I’ll replace both rears with Konis....don’t think Tokicos are available anywhere.
  18. No idea why it was blown. I would guess no more than 5000 miles.
  19. Pulled a blown shock out of my driver side rear coilover. Guess I’ll have to go back with Konis unless someone knows a Tokico source.
  20. I went to Georgia Tech.....tried M.E., but when I got to Fluid Mech and Thermodynamics, I switched to Industrial Management. I needed to work on my selling skills ?
  21. I love your attention to detail Capt. Did you go to engineering school or just have the knack? That coming from me, who never even reads the instructions! ?
  22. Right Madkaw......I used Stage III Isky Cams in mine. .160 to .180 lash pads for that set up.
  23. Great illustration Site.....and I spent hours in Roanoke with the Z Doctor. He built all of my P79 heads....he’s the one that originally came up with the set up. It tricks a P79/P90 into stock chain configuration with a 10:1 c/r. As far as advancing the cam sprocket 4 degrees to make up for an .080 cut without shims Capt., I think if that worked, it would have been done that way. I think Jeff G figured out some offset bushing for the cam sprocket that eliminated shims for his race car. I miss Doc!
  24. I would suggest as little as possible to clean the head up. I’ve heard .030 inches is about all you can cut without affecting the timing. Maybe someone else knows the exact number. .010 to .015 is where I would try to stop. Guy
