  1. Looks like you have most of your body parts now. Can’t wait to see this rendering come to life!
  2. Agree.....I think it’s an RB 25 or 26. The main bearing caps are all joined in the picture.....twin cam......really cool engine.
  3. Hi Mike.....I think it’s great that you bring back these old posts.....always fun to see some of the early members.....keep em coming. Guy
  4. Lumens.....Here are the 73 pistons shaved and installed. If you decide to have them machined, do it before you install the rings.
  5. Me too Blue.....I’ll buy you a drink!
  6. Glad you found these specs on the 73 Nissan piston Blue. I had noticed the taller piston back in 2012 when I bought some .040 over 73 pistons from my local Nissan parts guy (they were still available). I tried to find out more info, and no one could help.....not even Sam Neves (built Greg Ira’s car) or Dave Rebella. I shaved the pistons .015 inches just to be safe. If the gasket is approximately .055 inches and the piston comes out .027 inches, you have .028 inches clearance. If that isn’t enough, you either shave the piston or use a thicker head gasket......question is how much (or little clearance) is enough.......anyone got that answer?

This is the coolest project! 510’s just make me smile. My son had an orange 510 too......good luck Cody....it’ll be special.
  8. Interesting.....anyone on Hybrid Z know the compression thickness of the stock Nissan head gasket?
  9. I agree with madkaw......one exception......if the block was machined. It would be nice to know what the safe clearance is between piston and head (drag racers install with almost no clearance), and you can get numerous answers depending on who you ask. . Valve clearance should not be a problem because 73 pistons are flycut. The stock L28 pistons come out about .018 inches with no problem. If the block isn’t decked , I would think the stock gasket would be fine. If you are concerned (if it keeps you up at night) you can always shave the top of the piston down to the sleeping point.
  10. If you are concerned, you can always shave the pistons .010 inches or so. The crush on the stock head gasket is about .055 inches, so clearance should be adequate......I would think C/R should be bumped.....not the head lol......that's a good thing!
  11. See you in Atlanta Blue.....looking forward to meeting everyone!!!
  12. AARP260 just bought the engine......congrats Craig....I built her with tender loving care and all (and I do mean all, down to the front cover and oil pan bolts) new parts. Guy
  13. P30 block.....L24. Block number 077270....from a 1972 240Z.
  14. You can do all kinds of swaps.....been there done that. You’ll need a good frame shop ( and $$$$$$) to make sure everything lines up.
  15. You will feel quite a difference in this engine versus a stock 240Z engine......especially if you put round top SU's on it.
  16. ......and nice to see your avatar on the forum again Dave.....welcome stranger!
  17. I never have been one to try to get top dollar....I just know I won't ever use it with all the L28's I've got. Hope to help someone out with a real nice L24. Merry Xmas Guy
  18. http://datsunspirit.com/project-pumpkin-patch/ I think I get a little excited when I think about this new technology. This Z is basically a restomod already. Camber plates, coil overs, Wilwoods front and rear. I’ve got another 72 (orange) that remains fairly stock.....I think I’m going FI ITB's and I can’t wait!
  19. I have an L24 engine for sale. Totally rebuilt with Z Doctor built E31 Head with new seats, valves, guides, rockers, Isky Springs and a Stage II Isky camshaft. Block is bored .040 over with new Pistons. Brand new clutch and flywheel come with the engine. No carbs, intake, distributor or exhaust manifold. Runs perfect.....has approximately 1500 Miles. I replaced it with a 3.1 Stroker. Pick up only Richmond, Virginia........$2,000.00
  20. Nice.....That should be “bumpy” lol. Isky has a .530 regrind. Not sure how much lift requires spring seat alterations. Maybe someone can chime in on that.
  21. Jason....Just a heads up on cam choices. The Schneider cam billets aren’t even close to the quality alloys in a reground (Isky) camshaft. The original Datsun cams reground to Stage III (.490) by Isky work great. We put a Schneider .495 lift camshaft (new) in my 3.1 motor. After 150 miles, I noticed a cam lobe turning loose some metal. I’ve never had a single problem with the Datsun regrinds. I put a Isky .490 in the motor.....zero problems. Do it right the first time IMO. Guy
  22. Now the tide has changed....Safari Gold is THE COLOR for your Z31!
  23. You are way over my head Chickenman.....I count on Eiji when it comes to what new systems to use.....I don’t even know what Mega squirt is.....But, I value your opinion too.....thanks for the advice!
