Looks like the car has white, red, and black paint but is trying to grow a paint code 112 yellow.
  3. Totally off topic, but your garage looks fantastic...
  4. When I did mine, I found bolts, not plugs. I locktight'd them in, cut them with a cutting disk on a dremmel and ground them down with a grinder. After which I painted with POR-20. Pretty happy with it... Gallery Link

Yeah - I'm assuming a good leather dye like they use on red leather sofas. I was willing to give a door panel a try as it would just get my arm, not my pants.
  6. Saw this video and thought of this thread. Might be an interesting alternative to real chrome and vacuum metalized processes. Looks easy enough to do, though upstream UK site shows "sold out". Anyone tried one of these newer style silver based paints? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lG6O5lvhm8

Fixing color isn't that big of a deal. Here are some black door panels going butterscotch! Any leather shop can fix you up there.
  8. Almost looks like the rear panel matches the "butterscotch" interior color that came with the earlier 113 green cars. Very nice.

    Me either!
  10. My front tires come off the pavement around 112, won't do that again.

My favorite 112 Z that I've seen is Diseazd' car. The photos are almost as good as the real thing http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/765965630/in/set-72157600346077563
  12. Question for you, when do you use the top sprocket 1, 2, or 3 adjustments? When I put a new chain on some time ago the chain was pretty slack until I put it together with the chain in position "3" on the top sprocket. This was a new chain with a rebuilt E31 head. When I put it together I was thinking my head was shaved w/o appropriate shimming on the cam towers. Car ran great setup like that, but I'm no L motor expert...

  14. Agree 100%, you can put money in this car or buy a vacation to the USA to buy a decent example and ship it back to Belgium.
  15. It will be interesting to see how the threads hold up after 20 pins compared to the softer 3/4" rod.
  16. I'd say 1/5th to a 1/3rd up depending on your wiring. Clean the contact on the pressure sensor. Open up the oil filler (car may stall or idle rough) and see if the external cam oiler is spraying oil on the cam shaft. My external oiler loosened up dropping oil pressure once.
  17. That low oil pressure reading is scary. Use a plastic panel bar to pull up those carb dashpots to keep your fingers out of there. I burned up a finger to a backfire once...
  18. Good point. Restoring the box pads, the honda blower upgrade, common faults, cabling issues are all good things for such a document. The CZOT club (Austin), did a crazy amount of work engineering a mod of putting booster fans in the duct work in the dash which is real "cool".
  19. Agree with Carl. I'd say a full Arizona ZCar suspension/steering/coilovers should be done prior to doing discs. At that point your into hybrid-zcar territory.
  20. Its good to see photos of the guts of the HV system. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/thread23409.html One problem that is good to check is a blown coolant hose or leaky heater core or "water ****" getting coolant on the bottom heater flap hinges and fusing them in place with rust. When it gets rusted shut, a driver will try to force it and the cable will overcome the locking screw resistance and the cable will come free so it could be two problems.
  21. That will show those wicked pins who is boss.
  22. Fixitman, very enthusiastic to see more photos. Very nice work! Noticed no breather holes in the leather over the rear shock towers. Those holes in the original plastic are for the ventilation so you might get some extra exhaust smell in the cabin.
  23. Fantastic first post Steve... Wow. Wonder if the 2nd one is my old puller. If it is, glad its fixing Z's instead of laying around my place. Check out Jeff's old skool auto-cad drawing on post #59!
  24. Mine has so many that I'm pretty sure it was the PO taking the car to the track in the mid 70's.
