Buy yourself a can of Acetone, a tube of plastic epoxy and a can of Krylon Vinyl Refinishing Spray (in black, I assume). Then take out and strip your console, empty all those roaches out of the ash tray, wipe it down with the acetone, epoxy all the cracks (and build them up real big on the backside), and spray the whole thing with one coat (YES! One coat!) of the vinyl paint. You won't effen believe the results. Then put something improtant on your christmas list, like a GPS or a subscription to GRM or new bushings or Driving School tuition. steve77

Toomany, welcome to one of the--if not THE--biggest double standard in the World. I can't figure out if it's because they are american (made), or if it's a motorcycle cop thing, or if it is just because SO MANY cops are into Harleys in their personal lives. It makes me sick. Yeah, that Taurus reference is probably not fair...I think it's more like: S-type=Taurus, X-type=Lincoln LS. Of the four, I have test-driven three and rented one and can affirm they are all cheesey, plastic-coated in burlwood, fit and finish nightmares, loud, squeek-and-rattletraps. Jaguar should be embarrased to put their marque on these (especially the s-type). The grand old cat has perhaps gone up a bit in reliability and ease-of-service, but these are built like American cars now. Yuck. As an aside, is the Lincoln LS available as itself or something else in other parts of the world? The real question: Is it offered with the V-8 mated to the 5 speed? Over here you can only get the 'sport version' with the v-6 and the v-8 comes with an auto. steve77

Hey, guys! I'm not talking about giving up the Z and buying a Sebring, or Cavalier or minivan! I already have a fambly car (LS400). I'm talking about a toy car...my plaything! And I'm not really talking about going front-wheel drive, either (although there are a couple Mitsubishi products that might do...). I'm sometimes tempted to pick up an old 318 or 25 or 944 or Celica even--HORRORS--a Miata. I have toyed with the idea of a 914, but perhaps that wouyld be proof of a far greater sickness in me than can be handled here. Then it passes. Seriously thinking aobut selling my car so I can justify starting another Z project. How do you sell a Z, though? What if some total jerk wants it? steve77

Just remember: The bigger block of metal you use, the more heat it will retain. I know they're ugly and really a pain to work with, but the existing thin wall tubing and hoses shed pretty damn well. Now, if you could make a rail out of a piece of reinforced nylon or something. Any plastic experts around here? We need something that is of course solvent-resistant but can withstand 300F and take a tap well. steve77

Lots of places...there is even a site somwhere that details making your own. I think GRM or SPORTZ recently did a pictoral on making your own. Pretty simple, just drill out the billet and tap both ends and plug one (or return) and then drill, tap and fit nipples along at the proper intervals. That car looks really familiar. steve77

Was walking downtown and saw an old BMW R 90/6 parked at the curb. It is, of course an opposed moter and had a carb on each side (fed from the crankcase???) that said Bing. They looked like simple, clean little units. They looked so simple, they could almost pass for throttle bodies. Anyone give me more info on these? Of course, it is impossible for me to see something like this and not imagine them in a row of 6...... steve77

Every month, when GRM comes, I get this strange feeling after reading it. The feeling lies somewhere between comfort and greed...somewhere between being a stylish original and being a faceless contender. It's the urge to move from the Z into something with better support. Do you know what I mean? All those ads...all those products...all that technology...simple bolt-ons...major plug-and-play modifications, out of the box. CARB-registered street-modified parts. Sometimes I get the urge to buy a little 3-series or maybe even a 944 someone hasn't taken very good care of.... Then I see a picture of a Z and it passes. Besides, Datsun people are the coolest! steve77
