Looks like a whirligig in that first photo!

This has already been covered in a thread here: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=28792

This happens on every website. Just be careful, ask questions from a buyer, never take a check for more than the amount of the sale, and tell them you accept cash only (in person) if you don't feel comfortable. Basic rule of thumb....if you think it's fishy, it is.

I guess the moral of the story is, if you're in the Atlanta metro area and you see this woman coming.....run!
  5. Could be the fuel pump, too. Are you using a mechanical pump? If so, have someone pull the line from the fuel rail while you're cranking and see if any fuel is coming out. If not, either the line is blocked or the pump is bad.
  6. I've been thinking about attaching a 'bangalore torpedo' to the front of my Z..... Sorry to hear about your mishap, Dave. People just don't pay attention!

That's not Doug's car, is it? This looks like the fuel-injected 280Z that was discussed in another thread.

Uh. No..... Were these kit cars? When I first looked at it, I thought 'looks like an Airacobra fighter plane'.
  9. That car is about fifty miles from me, so I was looking at the photos and description myself. I think that Steven could be absolutely right. I had a Megasquirt setup in my 510, and while it's a lot of fun to set up, it can also be a real headache. He may have built this car as a rocket ship, can't get it quite right and his wife is all over him because the car isn't 'dependable'. If I were installing a Megasquirt fuel injection system, I'd want to do it from scratch. You have no idea what this guy has done, and tuning it could be a real nightmare if he's done something screwy.

I recently had to make the same decision. I'm removing them.
  11. Bryan, I know what you mean. My car is going into the paint shop in a couple of weeks....seems like I've spent the last couple of months fighting off 'drains' that threaten my paint fund....
  12. What, you've never played that game? It was a freestanding console game (the car wasn't shown, it was all first-person). If you're into MAME games, the ROM for that game is freely available....

Arne, you've been dieting? I agree with the above, mostly, although I'm not so much of a traditionalist that I would be opposed to the lights if they were proven to throw off more light (and, one would think, be safer). My car has H4's and the lighting seems to be perfectly adequate, though..... Did you go with the 'mood ring' because you liked the way it looked, Djarbi.....? Or was that just a secondary thing?
  14. I'll be interested to see more photos, too. From what we've seen so far, and from Randy's description, I've got a mental image of six inch thick floors on this car! Two layers of metal, two layers of thick fiberglass, etc..... Randy, if you've got a small hand-held grinder, that might be the way to go. Faster than hand cutters, anyway......
  15. I'm kind of encouraged from the new photos, actually.... That shot from the underside appears to show solid metal....I think what happened was the floorboards may have been replaced at some point, (although I can't tell whether it's sheet metal or OEM-type floorboards) and someone just laid fiberglass in on both the top and bottom. Mind you, there still may be something horrible and nasty under there that you haven't gotten to yet....is the driver's side the same way? At any rate, all that fiberglass (or whatever it is) should come off. Wear eye protection!
  16. I'd keep going. I'd want to get all of that old stuff off. If the floor really is solid, just paint it up with some POR-15 or other rust-preventive paint and you'll be set. This fiberglass covering might be somebody's weird idea of rust prevention, but it makes no sense to me at all. I would still be expecting to find trouble, but who knows...maybe you'll get lucky?

Randy, it's difficult to tell what the condition of your frame rails are from the photos, since the rails appear to be covered with whatever that black crap is. The Zeddfindings kit contains the rear frame rails, so don't worry too much if they look bad from the passenger footwell rearwards (my passenger side rail was rusted through and detached at the rear; the heater hose under the dash had been leaking for some time, apparently, before I bought the car). First you'll want to get up all of that junk, and to pull back the diamond vinyl, etc, so that you can truly evaluate how bad the problem is. When you take the shop to the welder's he's going to need to remove that stuff, so if you do it first you'll save some time and money. After that, you can evaluate how much of the floor needs to be replaced. If it's just the floor - and bear in mind that Charlie's kit goes from the firewall all the way back behind the rear seat mounts, so it will cover the entire floor - and possibly the rear frame rails, too, then you're going to be in good shape. Where it gets nasty is if the rust extends beyond what Charlie's floorpan kit covers. If the transmission tunnel or firewall or battery tray, etc, is eaten away, then you'll have nothing to attach the floorpans to. You know what I'm saying? Then this becomes much more of a project.... I had one side done, and depending on how bad yours is, you may be able to get away with having one side done or you may need both. Having the old floor cut out, and the new floor welded in along with the new rear frame rail, and the entire thing covered with POR-15 (top and bottom) cost me about $400. You're about two hours from me; if you can't find a welder over there that will do the repair, bring your car over here and my guy will do it. This is not the best photo, but this is my new floor.....

Randy, this is the car that came from up North? From Massachusetts or something, right? Too bad, the car looked clean in the photos. At any rate, yeah, those floors look like there are some pretty severe rust issues going on. There's usually a reason that people lay in fiberglass like that, and usually it's to cover up the rust problem down below. Ugh. Like the other guys said, I'd want to pull it up and see what's down there (or more likely, not down there, looks like there is some definite through-and-through when you view the car from beneath). The good news is that the Zeddfindings kit is excellent, and if it's just the floors and there aren't a lot of other structural issues, it's not a complicated repair. I just had my passenger side done, let me know if you need any more info.
  19. I'd like to know who the last president to actually drive his own car was....my guess is that it's been a long time. These people are supposed to be an extension of the people's will, but they haven't been living in the 'real world' for a very long time. I was listening to NPR this morning, and they were talking about some of the 'real people' who have been a part of the candidate's stump speeches. Hillary Clinton keeps referring to this waitress who works two jobs in a small town, and whose restaurant she visited. Iowa? New Hampshire? I can't remember. But anyway, Clinton had lunch in her restaurant, and talked to this waitress who is having a tough time making ends meet, and keeps using her as an example in her speeches on the campaign trail. The kicker? Clinton ate lunch, which was provided free of charge by the restaurant's owner, and then didn't leave a tip.
  20. I would be willing to bet that RJ doesn't feel like I 'attacked' him. We discussed our points of view, and in my mind we came to a point of agreement. That's how the process works, you see, when people are reasonable and passionate and open-minded at the same time....and that's exactly what this country needs, only it needs it from people who are already in the power structure, and not two guys talking on a car bulletin board. I don't think that the thread should be locked just because I 'made my point', I only said that because I don't feel like this is the proper forum for this discussion. Other members have stated the same opinion, quite a bit more eloquently than I have....I didn't want to get the conversation started in the first place, but once it did and took off I felt like someone should present an opposing viewpoint. Enrique, I don't know what I've done to annoy you so greatly, other than to 'exist' at the other end of the political spectrum. It doesn't bother me that you think differently than I do, so why should it bother you? You are entitled to your viewpoint, so am I....and that's something that's guaranteed by THE PEOPLE, a power that is greater than that of the President of the United States. Personally I think that the schism that exists between the parties in this country is not helpful, and demonizing one party or the other is part of the problem. It makes people feel superior, I see it all the time. I mean, watch the 'news' programs on television, as people with opposing viewpoints try to shout over each other. But that kind of 'certainty' and dogmatic approach to the issues in this country doesn't solve problems, it only creates them.
  21. It's a little less awe-inspiring, when you consider the current resident....
  22. The word 'hallowed' means sacred. As in a cemetery or a church. The White House is the residence of the President of the United States, nothing more. And you prove my point about Bill Clinton. So he did those things. So what? You think that Lyndon Johnson and John Kennedy and Dwight Eisenhower and any other number of men didn't do the same thing? And what does that have to do with any of the current crop of candidates for the presidency? Not much. And further, who cares what Bush has done during his presidency, either personally or in terms of his foreign policy? It's clear that he's made a number of foreign policy mistakes, but they are not reversible, so why argue about them? The point is that we need to have a strategy from this point forward, and throwing in a random 'Clinton did this' doesn't help matters. If we are looking at that kind of stuff, we are looking backwards, not forwards. Personally I happen to think that we're at a political crossroads, as a nation, and that we need to look forwards, ignoring the 'wrapper' that any particular candidate has been wrapped in by the media, and that we should be focused on listening to ideas and letting go of the dogma that has captivated our attention thus far. But....enough. None of us are foolish enough to think that we are going to convince anyone else of the merits of our political arguments on an automotive forum, are we? I kind of feel like this thread has run its' course, and if Mike hadn't started it I probably would be petitioning for him to lock it already. So....can we get back to talking about Z's?
  23. I've stayed out of this thread so far, because I don't believe that this is the right forum for this discussion. However, the above quote seems to illustrate, to me, some of the challenges we face at the moment, and the degree to which people allow themselves to be distracted from those challenges. What makes the walls of the White House 'hallowed', might I ask.......? There's evidence to suggest that most presidents have done things that are similar in nature. Clinton's real problem wasn't so much what he did, rather it was the way that he denied it. If he had said 'It is none of your business' when asked, he wouldn't have put himself in such an untenable position. Many people, myself included, feel that the country is headed in the wrong direction. Nobody can argue anymore that we're on the right course in Iraq, nobody can argue that our standing in the world has improved over the last several years. We supply billions of dollars worth of aid to countries like Pakistan, and yet we can't influence them when they introduce policies that we don't agree with? Please, Mr. Musharraf, while you enforce martial law it would look nicer if you removed your military uniform? I mean, seriously! We are propping up governments in oil-producing countries, governments that in turn invest those oil revenues in madrasahs where children are taught to hate us. So.....why haven't we gone full-bore into alternative energies, again? We haven't done it because we are all invested in the status quo, and especially our government and the lobbyists that influence it. Republican or Democrat, it's going to take a lot of diligence, consistent effort and a heavily thought-out policy to restore American influence and bring our allies back into our political orbit. We've done a lot of damage to our credibility and it needs to be restored somehow....and at the rate that we're investing in a failed policy in Iraq (while the rest of our military rusts from lack of investment, for example the US Navy which has half as many capital ships as it did during the 1980's), we need our allies more than ever. It never fails to amuse me, because people talk about political candidates the way that they talk about potential prom dates. Who cares if he's black, white, bald, green, blue, Mormon, Catholic, whatever? We're electing someone who will represent the will of the people, we are not electing a preacher for our church. Religion is not a requirement for election to the presidency, remember, the only requirement is that the Constitution be enforced. What we need are bold ideas and the political will to implement them. As for myself and where I stand, the only person I am not willing to vote for is Rudy Giuliani. Any of the other candidates are on the table for me.
  24. You can hear my car looooooong before you see it. Most of the time, people's expressions read something like, "Where the heck is that airplane going to......oh."
