  1. Terrific, a video done by a craftsmen with no intro, no irritating back ground music, short, sweet and useful. Youtubers could learn a lot from this guy. Anyone anything about that mini sandblaster he was using?
  2. 3 points
I got a lot of original folders and old books from Frank ( see in this topic) who died of cancer. His dad gave me this. Pretty cool stuff, some rare to. I'll keep it. Here are just a few snapshots.. above
  3. It's the same as any of the 90's-2K gen systems used before they went to entirely returnless in tank modules. Return is moved from the rail to the regulator, so only regulated pressure enters the feed and rail. Works as expected, and no additional heating of the returning fuel. Did you mean it may aggravate the hot start condition when used with a stock rail? That is conceivable. In any event, using the larger volume Billet rail seems to have removed the issue. I expect the extra material and volume within is what did the trick. Besides that, I still made the heat shield today, off the previous template. I used some left over T-304 sheet I had bought pre-covid, when the prices were still reasonable Had to chop 3" off the left end, I miscalculated that. Several in/outs to get the fitment right between the injector holders EDIT - going to have to re-wrap the injector harness to align with the new rail - not happy with the way it looks now 🙄
  4. You need to check both speedometer and odometer error. My '78 280Z riding on 225/50R16 tires (same OD as 195/70R14) shows about 10% fast on the speedometer, but the odometer is dead accurate. I once did a road trip and watched the odometer over 100 miles and compared it to the mile markers on the side of the highway. After 100 miles, it was within 0.2 miles. The S30 speedometers are notoriously optimistic, so you will never get both the speedo and odo to read accurately. You can change the speedometer drive gear in the trans, but before you do, get an accurate reading on the odometer using either GPS or mile markers.
  5. I've got that wheel and tire combo on my 240, 205/55 Hankook tires. I put the wide 5 speed out of a '79 ZX too. It's pretty accurate driving side by side with another car while talking back and forth on our phones. I have the r180 that's original to the car. Seems like I used the 4 speed speedo cog in the 5 speed transmission. I'll try and find that old thread where I asked about it later today. Those 15x7 fit perfect and look great. 16s rubbed in the fronts so they're on the 280.
  6. The eccentric and its backing washer are very firmly attached to each other with 3 spot welds. Even if you did separate them, the backing washer is thin making the bolt (maybe) go too deep and bottom (pure conjecture). The later cams that came in no-pump heads with no eccentrics had a much thicker washer = to the eccentric + its washer. Leaving sleeping dogs lie. Lye? Lay?
  7. Run them through their range of motion and see how they feel. I had one from a parts car that had been rear-ended and it must have damaged the half shaft. It would bind in its travel. I took it apart but did not see any visible damage. On the u-joints, the factory joints have caps in the Zerk fitting holes. Remove cap, install Zerk, squirt grease. Check the seals.
  8. Nice project. We collectively have thousands of hours of Z knowledge on this site and we are happy to guide you along the way. I a few years, you will be on here offering advice to the next generation of Z owners. I have had a damper bolt come loose (in race conditions), so I now always Loctite the threads. I doubt it would happen on a street Z, but it could. Good luck with your Z project!
  9. Nice that you have a project to do with your boys, from your video it certainly looks like you have it bottomed.
  10. Liking the grannyknot link and added to favourites! This is the other one I use which also gives the same info on a different way https://tiresize.com/calculator/
  11. A tire calculator is always fun to play with to try out different sizes, https://tire-calc.com/
