  1. Actually the '70 510 AT Wagon was my second 510. I traded in a '68 coupe for the wagon. At the time I was stationed on the east coast at Dover AFB Del and was temporarily assigned to the Edwards AFB CA. After getting there, I rented a home right outside the base and had a 26 mile commute to work. Between the long daily commute, weekends in Las Vegas and the cross country relocation, I put the 11,000+ miles on in only a few months. I was on my way back to Dover transiting Arizona when the transmission ate itself. Since the JATCO transmission had only been sold in the US for a few months, Datsun had no spare parts. The Dallas Datsun Sales Manager was all kinds of angry when he had to take his only AT equipped Wagon off the floor to cannibalize parts. Datsun dealerships of the time were somewhat spotty, especially out of the major markets. The dealership in Winslow AZ where I had my problems turned out to be the John Deere Farm Implements dealer. The head (read only) mechanic was the owner's son. He confessed that he had never seen any car with an automatic transmission. He was kind enough to write a letter verifying that the failure had occurred while the car was in warranty.
  2. View from the drivers side. Holding the camera low as if it's at eye line they are kind of hidden behind the trim panel. And the passengers side. They kind of stand out as they are the nicest part of that ratty interior. On a decent car they would blend in.
  3. I'm glad you like it! Great job getting it all together.
  4. 3 1/2 hours from me...Tell them to look me up if they're in the area...
  5. By some miracle I got it to let go. I put the car into gear to lock the crankshaft after I backed off and repacked the rope so the valve moved a little less... Not sure how, but it finally gave... let's hope that's the only one that's that bad... :/
  6. you're welcome. I will share some pics after I do the actual re-paint. I hope it looks as good as yours.
  7. 100 miles this morning without a hiccup. 8^) I believes I got it!
  8. Hi all, I've been a bit lazy giving updates and kinda relied upon my FB page so I apologise to those of you who don't or won't FB ! Here are the latest photos with a few captions ! Tooling up for the revised Street-sport manifold. Preparation of the bulk items ready for treatment and assembly. Ok, it's happening - progress, but still lots to do.... JDM silencers in processing. There have been some fitting issues with the previous batch which have been addressed : thicker V-band clamp bolts (6-8mm) thicker fixing straps (5-8mm) replaced Street-sport lower flange bolt-holes chamfored edge under no.1 port (here in prototype) Getting there.....but just not quick enough - just 1 (sometimes 2x men working on them)....and stopping to take 'my' photographs ! Finally, delivery has been confirmed as the week beginning 18th July and I shall ensure that all pre-paid orders are sent out first that week as a priority - thankyou all for your trust and patience. Improvements are : 1) lambda sensor plugs in each 'Y' collecteur. 2) improved flange fitting and exhaust fixations 3) improved Street-sport manfold and Y-pipe collector 4) an even easier exhaust fitting and higher up towards the chassis. 5) a 2+2 extension to enable ALL the S30s to improve themselves. Any and all questions - just ask - a pleasure to hear from you.
  9. Ragtops & Roadsters / Pollock Auto Restorations had my 1974 260Z on display indoors. The restoration is 99% complete.
  10. 1 point
I saw that but I wasn't sure that wasn't under coater peeling off instead of rust. The big thing to me as far as an unknown is what is the premium on a very early car compared to a car like Grannyknots sub 2000 vin or a later sort of normal Vin car? I don't know but I would think with the recent appreciation in Z car values the very early cars would experience this even more so. If that is rust, then a color change or recent re-spray would scare me even more. A bad "fill it and paint it" would really hurt if you spent $50k on this car only to find the typical chassis rust in the floors, rockers, doglegs and quarters. While this might seem outlandish today I don't think the days of $100k Z cars is that far off. The really low number cars, properly restored will be bringing that in the next 7-10 years, maybe sooner. Especially if governments around the world keep printing money.... Hagerty has them at $50-60 right now, 10% appreciation compounded for 7 years doubles the value to $100-120k...
