  1. OK, here are some pics. The car was restored and it was done very well. I'm very happy with it and it's pretty much what I would have done if restoring one ground up. It had some funky side view mirrors mounted to the window trim and window frame which I already removed. I will be mounting a factory unit only on the drivers side. Im glad im only dealing with the trim vs aftermarket mirrors mounted onto the doors which would have required body/paint work to reverse, so it's the lesser of the evils in my book. I should be getting my new mirror in tomorrow from Nissan. Its a series 1 finished in 904 Kilimanjaro white on blue interior. I wasn't too sure about the blue and prefered red or black, but its growing on me and looks great while driving on a sunny day. I'm very happy to be back in a 240z. Hope you guys like it.
  2. Goodluck selling. Persuming its an original L24 with an E31 head it will be a desirable engine. The early E88 heads and also nice. Just for parts like the head and carbs, you shouldn't have too much trouble selling.
  3. I'de first check to see if the crank turns. I stored an L28 for years and later found the cylinders all very rusty inside. Do you know if the engine was running good before it was taken out?
  4. I agree with Site. If its all original it's before July 72. I can't see the details all that good, but the screws on the carbs look square from each other which could mean the 4 screw type. If they are four screw, it would put it somewhere before August 71. Good chance this engine has an E31 head. If they are 4 screw carbs, it should have an E46 inlet manifold. The carbs don't have the water heating the later version had. That came in on the 3 screw carbs. The air pump valve thingy with the pinkish red hoses is for the pre July 72. They moved it to the back on thd flat tops. You might want to check thd gearbox. Small change, but someone could have fitted a five speed from a latrr model. If its a four speed, its the original.
  5. Things have been moving along. Took that first cut and started with the carpet. It's the ACC kit, so it takes some work to get it to fit (I took a number of pictures and some notes with the intent to write up a how-to, since I couldn't find a detailed one), but it came together well, especially considering all the extra sound dampening I put in. Too bad I accidentally tossed the rubber trim pieces for the seat belts. Started working on the front half this evening, which -- after wrestling with the cuts to get it under the dash and into the footwells -- seems like it'll go a bit quicker. The one thing I've flip-flopped on at least 5 times already is whether I should put the carpet over the seat rails, or bolt them on top of it. Right now I'm leaning towards on top. Other things...lots of visits from my UPS and USPS friends! All my floorpan plugs needed replacing, but I blanched after seeing Nissan's prices. I got a full set of replacements on eBay for ~$40 shipped by getting parts for Jeeps and Fords. Interior Innovations finally shipped my shift and e-brake boots, and I got the supposedly-not-legal-in-California contact cement and re-wrapped the scuff plates. And I splurged a bit on a new shift knob.
  6. Very nice Cliff.....looks clean!
  7. Have you had a bad day Zed? This isn't zcars.com I appreciate your help but come on now.
  8. It's a boy! Maybe I'll paint a few more things black?
  9. I also am not sure of it's purpose. I haven't read the entire build thread but was your car automatic by any chance? Or fitted with air con? HS30 00836 has seen better days but it also has those brackets. But this is the exception as opposed to the rule, other early HS30's don't seem to have it. However my later 73 240z didn't have it. (HS30 102895) So at least it doesn't seem like a production change, rather perhaps an optional equipment bracket of some sort? What I don't know...
  10. Mystery solved. The leather one was for those back in the '70s with poor taste. Mine just has the gear locations. It doesn't have the "Datsun" logo on it.
  11. Over the past few weeks I have made some more progress and a few changes on the Z. I was in the Dallas area visiting family and friends over the July 4th weekend and picked up a set of dealer spec 14 x 5.5 slotted mags with tires for a very reasonable price. I have always liked the slotted mags on Z cars and have spent many months trying to find a local set of 14 x 7 mags that accept a press on or push through center cap to no avail. The tire size is 185/65/14 and they seem to be in good shape for their age. I promptly ordered a set of center caps and used a set of heavy duty Z decals to place on them. They look like the same kind of caps and decals MSA sells and you see them on a lot of mag wheel’d Z cars. The car still sits a little nose high and the current tires do nothing to hide it. So far I like them and I think they are more fitting than the 14 x 7 American Racing quasi turbine wheels that were on the car. My dream set of wheels are some 16 x 7 Panasports but that will have to wait awhile. Ever since I did the cylinder head work I have been meaning to do an oil change. Since we are now in the middle of the heat season I woke up at 6am with plans to have the work wrapped up by 7am before it got too hot. Based on other owner’s feedback I switched to Valvoline VR1 20W-50. It was no more expensive than the Castrol GTX I usually use and based on how much quieter the engine is it was definitely good move. Of course a Wix filter was used again as always in my classic cars.
