  1. Finally drove my 72 since purchasing 3 years ago. Drove it ~ 140km.
  2. Took the day off and got the Z running and moved from the Z barn to my house. Finally registered and insured too 7AM Waking up
  3. I know plenty of punches are still around, I think I have a set myself, but I wanted the same font as the punched plate that didn't look hand done as far as spacing and what I got is very close.
  4. For me I think it's a little less important because on the 77-78 plates, they even stopped putting the engine serial number on it. It's VIN only, so even from the factory, you can't use the plate to determine engine originality. I only want one because it looks funny to not have one.
  5. That's a nice looking car right there....
  6. I have definitely come to my senses, yet again I have decided to double down on the Z. After the suspension redo (and wow, what a difference that made, I am going to start to make her a little bit that much more special. Since I have already departed on the 100% original path, I think I want to explore some more fun yet fully reversible ideas. I am going to get a new BRE rear spoiler but leave it flat black instead of body color. I want a new intake manifold for my Triples so I can use the original push pull rod throttle likage, as the Cannon I have is just complete garbage. So in my future, I think I want to get some parts from the Kameari swag A Kameari intake for the triples, a pair of Kameari drivers and passengers seats. a Datsun Competition wheel That is the new target for the Z. Going to give the interior some lov'n.
  7. Installed a 2.5" exhaust with a MagnaFlow 3 days ago, went back today to add a resonator. No drone and a nice deep sound when I get on it. PMG
  8. I recently had to purchase an LED dimming controller for my Z. I upgraded the crap lighting in my Vintage Air control panel, which made them too bright. So I needed LED dimming, which is best done with a PWM module. (see recent posts re LED dimming). I started looking around at the local electronics supplies and other that sell LED lighting. I found two quickly. One at B&E electronics and another at Lee Valley. http://www.be-electronics.com/product_p/69-dim2.htm http://www.leevalley.com/en/wood/page.aspx?p=70325&cat=1,43349,70322 Lee Valley was $30 and B&E was $20. Not bad, I bought the one at B&E. Unpackaged it and installed the tiny circuit board and remoted the control knob. Nice dimmable heater panel. Yeah me. Being the inquisitive type, I checked on EBay for PWM dimmers, and no surprise, found literally thousands in various configurations and power ranges. The best part was finding the same one as what I bought at B&E. Wait for it, for $2.54 (USD, $3.73 CAN). Pretty much 10% of the retail. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/PWM-Dimming-Controller-for-LED-Lights-Ribbon-Strip-12-24-Volt-12V-24V-8-Amp-W8-/321826421881?hash=item4aee597c79:g:UAUAAOSwT6pVxNqq (check out the range of prices for the same thing. Quite remarkable. Another lesson about buying stuff on ebay. Also note the prices from US suppliers of this same part. Magically 5-10 times more.... hmmmm....) So I had to buy some. Took 21 days to get here, but now when I need to do this to the next Z, I have parts, AND I can sell it to that Z owner for $20!! Capitalism at its best! I love it! PS. My apologies to Blue for buying stuff from china, but buying it at B&E in Calgary for 1000% markup, when they came from China to start with, well, what's the harm... Maybe I'll install one of these in my LED trouble light with the WAY TOO FREAKING BRIGHT LED strip.
  9. Thanks CanTechZ, That's the first reasonable explanation of the dates I've heard.
  10. The good Captain caught it. I was misled because you said it was a 73. Go here: http://zzxdatsun.com/catDecals.php The owner is good Z people. He only takes checks or cash. No credit cards. I've bought plenty of stuff from him and wouldn't hesitate to use him again.
  11. That appears to be a 72 VIN. There is definitely something strange going on if it was titled as a 73. I would be surprised if an early 72 stayed on a dealer lot that it might have been titled as a 73.
