78 280Z Want Start

Featured Replies

I am back trying to start the 280 after almost a year off. Here is where I am:

1. The the engine to run without the injectors or fuel pump

2. Have replaced all relays related to the starting system.

3. Purchased an ECU and the resistor units. Have not installed yet

4. Fuel pump will not run through the system only when I do a direct connection to it only

Question:

1. Should the injectors show continuity across the two connectors.

2. Any next steps to offer.

You are going to need a FSM “Factory Service Manual”. Available here to down load. Please stop throwing parts at the project. You will quickly find yourself going down a rabbit hole. Second we are going to need a lot of background history in order to help you. A lot of reading and research is ahead of you. There are numerous possibilities. Start by downloading the FSM.

Gotcha, have manual and have completed most of the possible checks on the electrical and emission. I will continue the research as you advised.

Thanks so much.

You mean: GET the engine etc.etc?  Yes you could check if the engine runs by spaying some starterfluid into the air inlet, if it has ignition working it should fire up

Yes.. and no.. 🙃  The resistance is low, very low, you can test a injector with a full 9 volt (those small battery's) battery..  NEVER EVER test it with a big battery or the car battery because you WILL fry the thing!  Injectors are electronically regulated and the current is a very short puls that normally wouldn't kill the injector copper windings..

BUT.. As John (Yarb) sayd: first learn a lot about the way it works in theory..

And then slowly start to make a logical list of things to test.. And remember there are many things that can and will go wrong with these old "computer" controlled injection systems.
