Still struggling with car at idle after 8 years

Featured Replies

Those contraptions are called non-foulers that were sold many years ago for worn out motors burning oil. Definitely not a permanent fix by any means. They came about over 50 years ago when I worked in my family’s auto part store.

I have this neat tool I would love to test number 4 with.

Spark KV, Burn KV, Burn time in ms.

You still running the pertronix???

Yes

If it were mine I would swap out the entire ignition system. Coil and distributor with no pertronix

you can check the cables, but make 100% sure the choke lever on the bottom of the carb is not stuck on.

It does sound like the chokes may be stuck open.

This can happen if the screw for the linkage to the choke tube is too tight.

Do what Charles @Patcon says... Replace the ignition system once you've verified the choke isn't stuck.

Just removed the air filter assembly. Should i loosen the screws and remove choke cables completely?
