Hey Guys!

I have some sport mirrors for a 280z where the glass/lense is is pretty rough condition. Do you know if  glass this bad around the edges is able to be cleaned up? If not do you know where to get replacement glass? I feel like buying original new sport mirrors is a little on the unnecessary side due to cost, and that I already have good bodies. The aftermarket plastic ones don't interest me that much either.

Just trying to find a way to clean these guys up! Thanks in advance

Alternatively---if the outside glass surface is in good condition (no scratches) the original glass can be re-silvered on the backside and will be good as new.

I've done this several times on interior rear view mirrors.

Thanks, guys! I took both of your advice and contacted some local glass shops. I should be all set now. Unfortunately, I am clumsy and dropped one which broke, but shouldn't be a big deal. I am going to make a separate post in the future overgoing the rebuild for anyone else who may run into the same questions I had.

These little details in restoration are just as exciting as the moment the engine comes to life. I, too, once got stuck on a small detail—I couldn't find the right part and decided to distract myself by switching my attention to sports. I went to flashscore livescore on livescores-24.com , started looking at the results, and realized how similar the feeling is—watching the struggle and small victories. After that, I returned to the car with a different mindset, and things finally got going.

My mirrors on my old 260z were in the same condition. If the glass is simply cloudy or has a film around the edges, try gently polishing it with glass polish or even toothpaste on a microfiber cloth—it helps remove minor cloudiness. But if there are cracks from the inside, it's best to look for a replacement—sometimes you can find original mirror elements without the housing on eBay or in Datsun enthusiast groups.

I don't think that these are "bots". I think that they are real people using one of the large language model programs, like ChatGPT. Testing them out to see if they can sound like real people. I don't think that a bot would edit its post.

Training tip - "cracks from the inside" and polishing away a film around the edges is nonsense. And it listed a 240Z as its car but talks about a 260Z. That's clever attempt but it's a sign of not quite right.

As far as deleting them, it might be best to keep our enemies close. We need to see how these manipulative tools develop. Be ready.

They are proliferating like cancer out there. Metastasizing.

In other words, real people are controlling the chatbots. Things will probably get weird when they figure out to set the chatbots free to "converse" at will on these forums, without a handler.

Or, conspiracy theory, Mike is using the forum to train chatbots, or is renting the forum out to a chatbot developer. You never know. I've seen many job advertisements for positions to train chatbots.

Hard to really understand what the long-term goal is.

Do you have so little $^!# to do in life that you sit and talk to yourself on some shabby forum?
