April 2, 20196 yr Author comment_572432 I will look into the driveline stuff more.  Diff is prepped for powder coating. Inside is clean and empty. I sealed it to minimize sand and powder getting in. I will then burn the powder off the aluminum parts and then wire wheel smooth and vapor blast to look perfect. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/58568-duffys-171-series-1-240z-build/?&page=27#findComment-572432 Share on other sites

April 2, 20196 yr Author comment_572449 Powder can't go some places and it sucks to remove. The more time I spend prepping the better. The surface has to have zero grease or it ruins the powder coating. This is just a easy method to make sure it comes out nice. They do the same thing with engine blocks.  Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/58568-duffys-171-series-1-240z-build/?&page=27#findComment-572449 Share on other sites

April 2, 20196 yr Author comment_572451 Powder coating masking is the worse, it's this terrible rigid tape. It works, but not nearly as well as this. If you can sacrifice something to do a firm mask off, it will turn out awesome.   This is just my experience in years of powder coating car parts. I am sure there are other ways. My powder shop charges me a lot less if I do the prep/ masking.    Edited April 2, 20196 yr by duffymahoney Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/58568-duffys-171-series-1-240z-build/?&page=27#findComment-572451 Share on other sites

April 6, 20196 yr Author comment_572791 I got the 5 speed close ratio transmission case vapor blasted. Took forever, like most of a day.  Looks good though Edited April 6, 20196 yr by duffymahoney Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/58568-duffys-171-series-1-240z-build/?&page=27#findComment-572791 Share on other sites
April 7, 20196 yr comment_572804 We tried that case in the bead blasting cabinet but gave up because it was so slow. We blasted it with the pressure pot instead Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/58568-duffys-171-series-1-240z-build/?&page=27#findComment-572804 Share on other sites
