Just how difficult is removing the automatic and installing a 5 speed tranny? Will the stock diff mated with the auto work Ok with the 5 speed?

It's a fairly easy swap. You'll need a clutch master cylinder to slave cylinder hard line, a clutch pedal (the pedal box should already be there), a clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder. Don't forget that you need a brass bushings in the rear of the crank (the autos don't have one installed). The drive shaft should be the same. The speedometer gear should be for the 3:54 rear end, so it depends what the 5 speed rear end was. Of course you need a manual flywheel and manual flywheel bolts. I'm sure I've forgotten something, but others can chime in.

25 years ago and long before the internet, I did the swap by myself in a weekend. The key is to have all of the needed parts ready to go.

That big 'ole brake pedal will need to be replaced by a smaller, not-so-automatic brake pedal. I suppose you could trim down the big one?

Make sure to prepare Manual transmission starter and solenoid.

Hello all, first post for me! I have a '77 280z 2+2 automatic, yea I know they ain't cool. Anyways I'm wishing to convert it to a 5 speed. I figure I could probably scare up a transmission here in Indiana for it, however the salvage yards are a little thin on the small stuff I might need. Anyways if any of you have an extra footbox or pedal assembly or any other ancillary parts I might need please contact me. Thank you!

I have a spare pedal box I could sell you.

The 240's already have the pedal box installed. You do need the manual brake and clutch pedals.....you will need the hardware from a manual pedal box to install the pedals though.
