Thanks for the information: "Actually the steering feels better, its not as hard. Both the front and rear are the same exact wheel, the spokes are the same. The only difference between my wheels is the width." That really helps. I think I will go with the stagger so I can play with tire sizes a bit, and the 8.5 rear wheels look really good. You can do just about anything you want with the Z, amazing cars, light, plenty of engine room, plenty of passenger space, lots of aftermarket and original parts available, and a basic sports car. Bought my first one, a '70, when I was 19, and then did one of the earliest V8 (350 hp) conversions back in '73 or so. My girlfriend (now wife) and I had great times in it before that swap, so this one I'm building now (3.5 BMW) has considerable significance. That's why decisions are carefully considered. Thanks for the thread.

Hey Nativez,

I am loving ur car right now. The car looks good and tough. I like it. I'll tell you the truth, I am so jealous right now but I am also proud of seeing another Z on the road. I was still having to decide what tire size to use and was having a hard time getting the brand that I want. I did ordered 225/50/16 for the rear and 215/45/16 front in Falken Azenis Rt-615K. Very expensive. I placed the order yesterday and should arrive in 3-4 days. Local shops including Nissan advised over $700 for the falken tires. I am getting them through Discount Tire Direct for $582 shipped.

I actually had to trim the fender lip 1/4 of an inch with a dremel. I wouldnt go over a 40 series tire if ur using 17 inch wheels and a wide tire. I dont like rolling, the dremel works good. I just gotta spray something over the exposed metal now.

Front wheel cap issues. There may be a thread where its been covered but cannot locate. The hub is hitting the caps before it clip into the wheel. What can I do?

Ok, I took photos of what I am talking about. the middle part is too far out. when I put the wheel on, I cannot use the wheel cap. I cannot smash it in; so what do I do. I also had to buy a spacer because the wheel stops about 1/4 out not sitting flush; therefore, I bought a 1/4 inch wheel spacer I am good but I really want to use the caps.

I should think the wheels would have the correct 73mm diameter center hole for hub, but apparently your wheels and your hubs aren't matched properly. If you do not want to use the spacer, you could machine the wheel hole to the correct diameter for your hub. That won't help your cap fit problem, which must be endemic to the slight offset wheel and thin mounting plate of the wheel when fit on the front hub. Wheels with thicker mounting plates and those with more positive offset would not have this problem. I suppose everyone is having that problem. It's going to take some ingenuity, unless, of course, Rota makes a deeper cap, as they should do for this application. I wonder if it would be possible to cut an "extension" from another cap and insert it into the wheel and then snap the center cap into it. I haven't seen the caps myself to know if this is possible, but I have noticed that other Z's, such as 71Nissan, aren't using the caps, probably for that reason. One might also consider using a generic center cap. I'm still considering ordering RB's, so it's interesting to see what difficulties and solutions people are having with them. So, how's everything fit otherwise? How are the

225's on the rear? Good clearance so far?

I did read a lot of issues with guys not being able to run their caps with these wheels. I bought the wheels anticipating this, but I guess my Wildwoods allowed the cap to work-but I remember it was tight. Haven't lost a cap yet. So just buy some 1500$ brakes and your problems will be solved!!!!

Madkaw,

I did get expensive brakes. I have the wildwood brake upgrade that I purchased from that Arizona guy very, expensive. By the way I am using the spacers in front and had to changed the studs to longer ones to compensate.

I spent half a day today removing paints from the calipers. I made a big mistake taking them to this place call prime tech coating. 225s looks good so far in the rear. Even though on jacks, looks tough. The guys who mounted and balanced the tires were screaming at the tires, saying "those tires looks !!!mean!!!!." I cannot tell how they will look once off the jacks. I will take photos with a real camera when the car is off the jacks. My buddy will repaint the calipers tonight. We just sand blasted them earlier this evening. I am hoping to take the car "towing" it to get the exhaust system tomorrow.

It's funny. These things are major decisions. Most people don't really pay attention to wheels, but I'm always looking. I appreciate your sharing your ideas and photos. Your car is an outstanding example of how the Z, particularly the early ones, are a great car to build, kind of like older Camaros, but even more personal like classic hot rods, yet the Z has always been more like one of those cars that is a sort of personality of the owner. I think they are a form of Karma. Dream them into reality; treat them with respect and other aspects of living seem to flow more naturally, but that is truth in general. So, great thread. You deserve three more dreams. You should post photos on the "show us your wheels" thread. Great job! (I think I'm set on the 17" stagger set with ET4, but I haven't put the money down yet. It's still a long term project among others more pressing.) Later.
