First of all I'm not sure this is the right forum for this, but I'll give it a try....I have been getting the DIGEST version of the daily Z chat and enjoying it a lot...I tried a few posts at the bulletine board but find that it takes forever to get a reply.... I have a 73Z with an L24, all stock except for the 72 round tops, I bought it last summer and have bills to show the engine was REBUILT about 10 years and 10000 miles ago, bills say it was OVERSIZED, doesn't specify whether this refers to bearings or cylinder bored out a few thou though. Anyway it runs like a PoS, lumpy idle and lumpy non linear response to throttle (feels like 1 or 2 aren't firing, though I know t…

Hey guys, I just bought some RamFlo air cleaners for my early '71. I have only one connection in question: With the early type evaporative emmissions control (the fuel system, not smog stuff), a line runs from the stock air cleaner housing to the FLOW GUIDE VALVE. According to Haynes, this valve serves to let air into the fuel tank to prevent vacuum as fuel exits the tank. The question: can I leave that valve "in the breeze?" subsequently, would it benefit from some sort of filter? while I'm asking questions, does anyone have an opinion on whether the valve cover breather needs a filter? Thanks!

My 73Z is leaking fuel from the driver side bottom of the fuel tank hose (hose that exits the fuel tank) It appears that this hose is the OE braided vintage stuff. Where does this hose go to? It goes into the upper part of the car through a hole and dissapears (where does it end?) I've got to put the car outside tonight for fear of fire (gas waterheater in garage) Any and all replys are apperciated. Thanks, ds

Vehicle '72 240 Situation - leaking heater control valve. Has anyone seen a "Tips & Tricks" writeup on replacing this valve? It's kinda trick and I would like to have the experience of someone who has done it rather than relying on the service manual (it does not print the caveats.). Thx Jon

My '72 seems to have lost power over the last few months. Today I noticed moisture being vented out the top of the valve cover. Other symtoms include backfiring through both carbs upon acceleration, though the engine seems to idle fine. I've checked the dipstick after the car has been run for foaming, and find none. I'm baffled and am wondering if a compression test on each cylinder will verify a blown head gasket. Any thoughts?

I have a 1973 240z that I pulled out of a barn 2 years ago. I have no time to work on it anymore. Does anybody know of a good mechanic who is good with these cars in the Metro Detroit MI area. I live in Westland but will consider all help. the dealers have oil changers. It seems diagnostic techs are far and few between. After a head job I have no power, black smoke, and poor runability, the car is basically unusable. Thanks, Dave

I have a 1970 240Z that has gone through two ignition switches in the past year. The second one was not genuine Nissan so I don't know if that had anything to do with it. One local mechanic said I had a hot wire grounded. However, that cannot possibly be the case(I don't think) because the battery doesn't discharge. Also, there is a terrible noise coming from the rear end that increases with engine speed and it sounds so bad that it gives the impression it is about to go at any moment. I thought for sure it must not have any oil in it so I checked it and sure enough, it had the recommended amount in it. Therefore, I am baffled once again as to why it makes such loud and t…

Looks like I have a leaking master vac. Have lost all power boost to the brakes (brakes themselves are OK.) I hear a noticable hiss upon depressing brake pedal (and for some reason, engine speed increases about 500RPM). When I disconnected the vaccuum hose from manifold to the master vac, the sound disappeared. There's not much info in the Chilton manual I have about the master vac. Is is worthwhile rebuilding it? Are bebuilt ones available. How difficult is it to remove? I can see a real problem working in the tight space under the steering wheel. I'm wondering if it's best to hire this out. Any comments appreciated. Jon thebigboy@earthlink.net
