Ok, today I removed the Capacitive Discharge system I install 37 years ago. (1972 240Z) Re-established the stock wiring on the coil etc. Car started ok! yea. BUT The tach doesn't work well. It works to about 3,000rpm, but jumps around above that. Also, when throttle is closed the tach drops to zero immediately and bounces up and down before settling down. The CD system had a wire coil behind the tach that replaced the stock wire, that of course was removed. When removing the CD system I reinstalled the white wire loop back on the tach. So what do you think is the problem?

Hi everyone! Well I did my little circuit tests tonight from my ECU's 35-pin harness connector and made a table on my clipboard to record the results. A few things on it look good but unfortunately a few also look very bad. I was hoping a few of the wizardly Z people around here could offer some sage wisdom about my results, from your experience, or whatever you'd like to say that's most likely stuff I don't know! I ran all the tests that overlapped with the symptoms I've experienced with my car recently, namely loss of power, backfiring and/or afterburning. Tests were run at approximately 50 degrees F. I don't know how to do a table in HTML off the top of my head…

The pressure in the cooling system of my 78 280z is very low (judging on the upper and lower radiator hoses) but, the car doesn't overheat i Have run the car for over an hour an the temperature doesn't even go much past the halfway point on the gauge. I just replaced the radiator, water pump, thermostat, and upper and lower radiator hoses. I have checked the belt and it is at the FSM specified tension and flushed the cooling system. Dose anyone have any ideas as to what could be the cause of this? Is the presure suposed to be that low?

Can anyone help me a with a tire size for my 71' 240Z? I have a set of 15x7 silver Konig Rewind wheels and wanted to find out what is a good tire size for my Z. I actually just had a set of 215/60-15’s put on and they were too big. They hit the front lower air dam (stock) when I cranked my wheel. This is a stock Z, can anyone tell me what they are running so I can get tires back on my car. I'm looking at 205/60-15's but am afraid they might still rub. Thanks everyone!

Horn Woes HELP! 1 2 3

'Was backing into the driveway, as per usual. Without warning the horn starts blaring and won't stop! Quickly grabbed tools and dc/ed battery at positive terminal. Reconnected battery, no horn. Car is now in driveway. No casualties beyond a few disgruntled neighbors (seeing as it was 11 PM), a ringing ear, racing heart... and missed appointment with the Dukes of Hazzard county. What has me stumped is that it didn't start blaring again after I reconnected the battery. Is there a solenoid or something that controls the horn?! (wtf?) Somebody help me please, I don't want to wake up my neighbors again! :dead:

I have 2 videos of the noise, you can see the shorter one here: I think you can see the other by looking at my videos (I only have Internet on my phone at the moment) I bought this car 2 weeks ago, immediatly did an oil & filter change, and I replaced the plugs and wires with NGK ones. I didn't notice the engine rattle until after the oil change, but I then noticed it was present in a video I took the night I bought the car. I adjusted the valve lash 3 days ago while the engine was cold, most were close to the specs, but only 3 valves didn't need adjustment. I also did a cold engine compression test and all cylinders were between 145 and 152 psi. The front thre…

I'm going to preface this by saying I know pretty much nothing about cars... I just got my 240z out of storage for the winter -and as I got her only a month before I stored her - I'm not entirely sure if this is a new problem or not. We had a lot of trouble getting her to start up. One of my friends turned her up higher - my understanding is that this would make her idle higher and start easlier. She only idles at about 1krpm when I start her up. Here's the fun thing: if I'm downshifting for like a stop, she works just fine. If I kick her into neutral, her rpms stay just where they were when I took her out of gear... or even more fun, they go up. So if I'm sitting …
