  1. First in eastern Canada. (possibly the only one)
  2. Can't speak for the rest of you, but I would like to have a series 1. If the shipping wasn't so out to lunch....
  3. Thought someone may be interested. Better be quick.
  4. Maybe it has been refreshed. The door tag has over spray.
  5. Parked in grass would make want to see the undercarriage and a trailer hitch too.
  6. The original stuff is holding up good - accidently removed some (1 foot squared) last fall with a pressure washer - the steel under it looked like stainless (perfect condition). I have a spray on lubricant on it for now til I get around to it.
  7. A British convertible - probably a TR6 or MG. Part of the reality of Z phenomenon is it was an affordable car. So while I guess even the two I mentioned would be pricey, a vette or an E type would definately not be in the same league due to their high stickers.
  8. Hi Donna Congratulations on your buy, It looks nice. I think you are on the right track - a good cleaning will get you familiar with you new Z. By the time you finish with the toothbrush you will know what has to come next. Try ZHome.com for pointers. Good Luck It looks like ZHome contacted you
  9. I'll post anyway I suspected yesterday that we were discussing this car with the owner, but like Ebay car pictures, you can never be sure. Xcyter - I hope you get what the car is worth. Adam - I bought one off Ebay a few years ago - sightunseen. The main flaws were superficial and obvious to see (keeping the bidding down). When I contacted the vendor, I asked for specific pictures (noted caution points listed on ZHome) in high res. The vendor supplied dozens virtually without reservation. I bought the car (good price), but still found a number issues that were invisible even in high res photos. Both my cars were bought sight unseen - I don't know how else to do it when you live 5000 miles away from anything worth looking at. Both worked out fairly well. When I see a post like this I apply my parinoid perspective and point out things that would make me think negatively. Overspray is a reliable sign of a crappy paintjob (didn't have time to tape?) - always sets off my alarms - thinking in terms of what is being hidden. It is always important to look at these cars that way because they are slick looking vehicles, easy to photograph in a positive light and grossly prone to rot (even in car that looks sweet). For me - I am always looking. Was that a double entendre?
  10. Nice going Stephen - how to spoil a perfectly good s--t parade. Holy smoke man - what time do you get up in the morning?
  11. What do people use in their driveways to deal with ice and compacted snow? The 73 I bought there definately had signs of salt.
  12. bOpinions were requested, so I am not sure why the desention regarding remarks to point out something that a potential buyer (fellow member) may not have noticed. My remark about snow simply implies that rust, although not noticable in pictures, may still be present - esp considering the hints of a paintjob. A new bumper for a 72 is not cheap. Lastly - I have seen people ask rediculous amounts for cars in poor condition. Price certainly does not indicate quality. This car looks very nice (my favorite colour) but as stated it is near 40 years old and has had lots of time to rot or be abused. Not saying "it is in poor condition", but it could be. Pictures don't tell you much other than what the vendor wishes you to see. Hope someone sees it up close and gives us some feedback. After all we recently saw a car sold to a member through ebay that looked very nice in the pics and turned out to be quite different upon a closer inspection.
  13. The front bumper is damaged and it looks like it was painted (around the driverside door looks to be some overspray on the door seal). Not all that glitters is gold. Reserve is too high (currently over 4500). BTW - Some of Nevada gets alot of snow - I recently bouight a car from the Reno area.
  14. I am currently cleaning up a 73. I have to do the exhaust - it's about to turn to dust and looking down the road I am thinking about a street (midrange) cam, so working backward I figured I should start with a header and a 2.5 exhaust in order to acount for the future intentions. Anyway I just ordered a coated header 3-2 and 2.5 turbo exhaust at MSA. Now I am scratching my head (top my shoulders - NPI), after reading this thread and Carl's comments. Hope I did the right thing - shipping was over $100. Sucks to have to order everything cross country. *A local circut racer cut the tubes close to the studs and crimped the tubes closed. The car was not used extensively after that so I can't say how well it worked out.
  15. 51 and 52 is coming like a freight train. I first saw a 240 when my brother brought his home in 1973 - it was a 70 (he recently told me that he bought it for $800), I was instantly smitten and it stayed with me till I bought my first one in 76. I thought about these cars for many years after selling the first one, finally I bought one a few years ago. I now have two and I can imagine getting a 70 and maybe a ZX turbo befor I finish. The 77 is probably going to stay stock, 73 - is going to be modded a little, but they are both going to be drivers and get lots of miles. I still love the look and driving them.
  16. I use the 1 800 # and get them to PP request me. Just find it better to talk to them anyway.
  17. If you have an original good enough to use to copy (and turn into plastic) to make a mold from - why not make the cast from the original. It seems a bit like making a copy from a cassette tape (or Xeroxing a Xerox) - you are copying the errors and loss of detail from each subsequent copy (aren't you?). Devil's advocate.
  18. I make a monthly - The site has put me on the right track many times. Saved me lots of time and money. I use Paypal as well.
  19. Sounds nice - looking forward to the non-fuzzy pics.

Bubbles is a bit of a music composer. Have you heard his signature song? Try this link: The guy in black is Julian.

I used to smoke when I had the first one (70s), I wasn't too worried about the smell of it. No offence intended to those who still do smoke.
  23. It's not a court of law, merely an infomation thread for those who are familiar with Zs. I believe it is important in that it shows all Z owners and potential buyers (who use this site) the pitfalls of buying over the net (sight unseen). If there is more information in this story, I personally wish to read it and look forward to seeing all the stones overturned. Not too interested in seeing one of our more reputable members raked over the coals though.

Ha Ha thats good... a thread about nothing. I can add to that - I haven't done a tap on mine all winter either, I have a bunch of parts and the best of intentions when I stowed her (73) in December. As Big Oak says winter is the excuse here, I am feeling guilty as s--t about it, but it's just too damn cold in that shed.
