5 speed in a 4 speed question
Just got mine back from the shop (new 5 spd with 3.545 dif) - plenty of torque (for me), a little quieter on the highway and with the 77 shifter feels very similar to the old setup. Thanks for any advise offered in various strings.

Some Comments and replies on the car: Q: awesome car,and I noticed that it is an automatic(automatics were common in the 260 1/2,but to see one in an early model 260 is very rare). The car deserves to be taken care of,and of course driven as cars are built for.Hopefuly (not to name drop)jay len---(shoudnt do that),might be a z fan,and put it in his collection. This is one to say is the nicest(most factory)left. good luck. Oct-26-07 A: I know it the nicest z ,thats why if I do not sell it I do not care, Thank you for comments, and maybe I will call jays museum, thanks Demetri. Q: Have you considered selling it to a museum? Im sure Nismo/Nissan or some classic Japanese car museum would take it. It looks like it should still have the "new car" smell. Oct-23-07 A: yes it still has its new car smell, I Think This car should go to a collector who would enjoy it instead of a of sitting in a museum, But I might consider it, Thanks for your email Q: this car is AWESOME(like it is sitting on a dealer ship car lot somewhere in 1974).The only thing to change on it would be a four barrel carb. and only to really get the performance that you cant get from the flat top carb. and of course put the original carbs. in well packaged box for safe keeping.Im sure the person that buys this car will be using it for show and not driving purposes.best of luck. Oct-21-07 A: The car is really unbelievable, I don't think you would need to touch this z, it would be a sin, plus this z is so quick, since it is bran new, the car is so responsive, the carbs open instantly, it also sound like a beautiful running sowing machine at idle,Thank you for your response Demetri Q: I have seen many z cars and have owned 71-77,I currently have two-260zs one has a 350 chevy motor ,the other is all original except the four barrel on it(63,300 original miles)candy apple red with butterschoth interior. BUT YOU HAVE THE SWEETEST RIDE HANDS DOWN.like you found it in a time capsule. good luck. you must not have any teenage boys at home, because Im sure they would make sure this car didnt get sold. Oct-18-07 A: Thank you for your comment, I know this car is unbelievable, I wish I was not selling it, because I know I will never get one like this again in my life, even if I restored one it will never be factory fresh. I inquired as to how much he paid for it and referenced the previous ad. Lets see if that is shown on the ebay ad. To illuminate Caveat Emptor = Buyer beware!

How much shaft play is acceptable?
I sent it to an import auto specialist - his background is largely german high end models - did so because I simply do not have the gear to get into it myself (at this time). He gave me an time estimate of 6.1 hrs to change clutch and install 5 spd - from what I have read and assessed (guessed) this seems correct and discussion with him made me feel comfortable about his knowledge of Zs. I selected this shop because he has a passion for older cars which leads me to believe that my expections of due dilligence will be met. I mentioned that the frame should be protected when it was lifted - he was aware - amazing how few shops give a s--t. As to the bearings - I found small rotational (lash?), but no tranverse/longitudinal play. The tranny is empty - I drained to see what the fluid looked like - nothing unusual. As to noise - gear noise - not really, lash noise - perceptable.

How much shaft play is acceptable?
Just brought my 5 spd to the shop (didn't want to mess up the car) to drop it off befor I brought the car in. The owner of the shop came out to take a look and tinkered with the shaft inside the bellhousing - he noted play and made a remark "in a modern tranny you wouldn't have this". I didn't think it was significant - maybe it is. To me it was barely perceptable - question: Is it normal to have some play? If so how much? Would it have been more noticable with no fluid in the tranny? Presently panicing.

If this guy gets $20,000 I am selling mine lol
I am on the other side of the fence for the time being. I didn't get involed in the Z world as an investment - I like the fact that it is a great little fun car accessable to pretty well anyone who wants one. This is still the poor man's Vette - I'ld like to have another one (or two). So, as to wishing the price through the roof - not me. I like it the way it is.

If you lost a nut off one end it could cause a very severe problem - you're rolling dice.

As we have discussed many times - you can ask whatever you want. It is only worth what someone is "actually" willing to pay for it.

Atlantic Z anyone?
Hey Greg - ditto Tim - Atlantic Z is a very good club, but not a retail outlet. Any purchases you might make are stricktly between you and an individual (seller using the sites classified) who may or may not have scruples. Without exception the onus is on the buyer to ensure he is getting what he or she desires, this will only be achieved through dilligent reseach and patience. There are many buyer/seller scenrios and not all include devious sellers. In some cases people simply don't have the expertise to adequately or accurately describe what they are selling. So, the problem still is yours to solve by asking the correct questions. I would recommend checking sites that freely provide information such as Zhome.com to get your feet wet. There are links provided through this site and Atlantic Z as well that will tell you pretty well anything you will need to know. Good luck

What are these wheels worth?
Hi Newspeed - welcome aboard - I use the 195 70r 14s you can still get the BFG radial TA at a pretty good price if you shop around. It's a very good tire for daily street use.

There a good schematic in the service manual - I am having a time trying to copy it to this site, it is adobe (if anyone can describe how to do that). Should be a black and a white coming off the plug from the 20A fuse/grd to the switch and the motor (respectively), from the switch there are three wires to the (four pin) plug which goes to the resistor that feeds the blue wire to the motor. You should end up with a blue and a white going to the (two pin) plug to the motor. Don't know if that clarifies anything. I highly recommend buying the service manual on cd - costs $10, worth lots.
