It would be pretty interesting to see what kind of power ends up at the wheels. I'm sure the mechanic(s) were bored and had this K5 sitting around and thought it would be a fun project. It's a pretty interesting modification. How well it works though I couldn't tell you. If I go by someday and it's still out I'll try and see what they say about it. Maybe they'll drive it for me?!

Hey everyone- For those of you who like to make mod's, this one ought to peek your interests. I found this the other night in front of a small auto shop in the Denver area. We haven't had much snow here lately so there's probably not much use for this but maybe up north in the snowier regions you could make use of this concept. I'm really curious how well it works.
  3. Check www.hybridz.org. They do a lot of different mods. There's a link from this site in the web links section. Good luck!

  5. We may need to add the 350Z drivers to this disrespectful attitude. Friday I was at a stop sign in my Z when I look up and a black 350 is turning right next to me. I gave a wave and the a**hole glanced over real quick and looked away and just kept driving. I thought I was in a posh (piece of sh*t) bug or something. Pissed me off. Later I was passed by an oncoming vette, late 60's, gave a wave and got one back. My impression of this 350z driver was that he thought he was the next greatest thing since sliced bread. I hope this isn't the trend but my gut tells me the new owners wouldn't know the old classic Z if it hit them. If anyone else has an encounter with a new Z let us know.

hey 2many- I knew there were alot of tools to choose from. I guess it comes down to how much you want to work on your car, space available (), money for tools vs money for the parts and car etc.... You guys have given some great suggestions. I guess what I'm trying to figure out is what are the essentials vs the non essentials ie... box wrenchs vs a press for bushings. I have quite a few tools already but like you said you can never have enough. I'm trying to decide if things like a speed wrench is worth having if you already have box wrenches and air tools? I'm looking to get some of the peripheral stuff like the mirror on a stick, the pick up tool for dropped stuff, stripped bolt removers etc.... obviously some of this is used very little but others all the time. I also want to have some room for my car. It's always garaged so my space is limited for tool storage. Also,it kind of fun to see how far others go with their tool collections. Thanks. Now let's talk about that turbo kit available from Jim Cook Racing for the L series engine.

I've seen a couple around the Denver area and actually parked my 260 next to one at a shopping center hoping to run into the owner but didn't. Anyway, there's an article in this months CAR AND DRIVER, comparing the 350 with the TT, mustang and honda 2000?. They rate the 350 the best value for the money in terms or ride, speed, handling etc. It's getting favorable ratings but like our z's the brakes suck the suspension could be better. But the new Z seems to be pretty quick. FWIW. I want to like the look of the 350 but the rear hatch area looks like an elephant sat on it and dented the rear hatch down below straight (looks like it sags). If it had a slight bow (out) more in keeping with our Z's I think it would have looked better.
  8. This is sort of a question for Mike but thought others may know the answer or have some interest. I'm wondering if there is a way to create a folder on this site for personal use to store threads or subscriptions to threads of things one is interested in without having to keep a log or do a search on a specific topic. Think of this as a folder on your desktop that you copy into. Perhaps that is your answer - created a folder on my own system that I can copy threads too. Anyway, thanks for the feedback.

Nice list guys! Keep them coming. That's exactly what I'm looking for! No one has mentioned the micro fiche set yet - I imagine that's a handy tool.
  10. Hi Gang- I have been formulating a TOOL wishlist for working on my car. Since christmas is coming I thought the experts out there might be able to help formulate a good list for a set of tools. I will of course be asking for some of these things at christmas. I know there are basics that are needed for auto work and then there are the 'extra's' that make life easier or at least more fun because of the tool. So, I would appreciate your input and I think it will help everyone build up a better tool chest. Thanks

Maybe not quite as bad as the bass you feel run through your body (physically) from the car behind you at a stop light......then again?

Very sorry to hear about your medical news. These things get beat every day with the new technologies. Stay positive and get past this. Best of luck!

Here's an email address to a place that reps Watanabe's, sales@hybridperformance.com <sales@hybridperformance.com>. Maybe this will help you answer your question(s). I'm not sure why I'm helping you with this as you seem to be unappreciative of the advice/info we are trying to pass along to you. Is this a question or a statement? I actually did find a number for Watanabe's, you'll just have to look a little harder.

The question you asked was answered by John Coffey just not the way your wanted it. you can run different offsets on you car with spacers. As described by John, offset has everything to do with how a wheel relates to the springs and hub within the wheel well. if you look at a Z wheel vs. a front wheel drive car (Honda for example) the offsets for the Z are zero (as explained previously by John) while a front wheel drive car may have a positive offset of 20mm - 40mm as an example. Zero offset wheels are primarily for rear wheel drive vehicles. If you were to start shopping for new wheels you would find that probably 85% or more won't work on a Z without a spacer because of the offset. If you do a search on this site about this subject I know there are several threads discussing this subject with some diagrams explaining what John Coffey explained. The fast way to get you answer is call Watanabe's and ask if their wheel will work on your Z and if modifications are required (or try your local tire store). Some tire shops won't mount wheels on spacers for safety reasons. Is that +25 in mm's? If so, my guess is you need a spacer as it's a frontwheel drive wheel and if installed without a spacer, well it probably wouldn't even install. The best offset for a Z is a zero offset rearwheel drive wheel. There's a whole other discussion as to whether spacers are a good solution or not. Look up some of these past discussions. Good luck.

I considered wheel adaptors pretty hard for awhile until I went to my local tire shop, Discount tire in this case, they won't touch a vehicle that has adaptors period. Won't even fix a flat. I was surprised. I guess there's too much liability with them if they aren't installed correctly or made of lesser materials. For me, it came down to convenience. I could have gone to the adaptor and front wheel drive wheel but I would have had to drive an hour plus round trip just to get the wheel/tire serviced and decided it wasn't worth it. FWIW, Porsche runs wheel adaptors as standard practice from what I have heard but they're engineered for them.

My wife ordered one for me from checker I believe - took about a week. I have also seen them (Haynes Manuals) for sale in the back of the Victoria British catalog for $16.95. Go to www.victoriabritish.com for a catalog.

  21. This Kind of humorous. Sorry in advance ladies, nothing personal. A few days ago I was having some work done at my local garage. A blonde came in and asked for a seven-hundred-ten. We all looked at each other, and another customer asked, "What is aseven-hundred-ten?" She replied, "You know, the little piece in the middle of the engine, I lost it and need a new one. It had always been there." The mechanic gave the blonde a piece of paper and a pen and asked her to draw what the piece looked like. She drew a circle and in the middle of it wrote 710. He then took her over to another car which had the hood up and asked, "is there a 710 on this car?" She pointed and said, "Of course, its right there." see attached photo:

Money! Lots of it! The Lottery hasn't panned out like I had hoped. I'd like to retire early and just screw around with my cars (I'd by others!) and play golf and vacation. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

I don't know about the rest of the country, but the roads around here just seem to get worse and worse. It's nearly impossible to find a reasonably smooth road to drive on. It doesn't help having a stiff suspension but come on!! It seems even the newer roads are bad because they settle or have to go back and add or repair something they forgot ie... patch. Are there any good roads out there??????:dead:
  25. This probably isn't the best solution to making your bushings fit but when I installed mine, because the collars of the new bushings made the control arm assembly wider than the opening it came from on the strut, I just simply cut the collars off on the outside of the control arm with a razor knife. The net effect was the metal sleeve touched the strut tower just like the stock bushings did. Took 10 mins. I have had no ill effects from doing this (that I can tell). I spent 1-2 hrs trying to get my control arms back in from wenst they came and in my frustration got out the knife. Wish I had done it after 10 mins. I installed both pieces of my bushings just cut the collars (shoulders) off the outer ones.
