Need a 32k Orig. Mile 70 240Z?
Interesting to see the original metal radiator fan still on it. What is that blue cylinder on the passenger side of the engine? Radio is not original but that's small potatoes. Nice car---too bad I have so many irons in the fire already. Hope somebody on CZC gets it and keeps us informed of it's progress. Jim D. "Zup"

Upgrading my Z to a 91TT
280~Master or I think that 1 of each is best!! I started with the 300zxtt and then fell for the 73 240Z. I can't imagine not having either one. I drive the 73 almost every day. The 300 is for special events---ANY special event! Don't part with something you love!! Jim D. "Zup"

carb adjustment
Just changed from MMO to "3 in 1". No longer is there fluttering in the carbs on acceleration! Much better throttle response!! My accelerator pedal actually gives positive feedback for the first time! YMMV, but it did wonders for this 73 with round tops! Kudos to Gary (beandip) for the best explanation for using a specific weight of oil that I've ever seen. 20 wt. carb oil might be even better, but I think "3 in 1" gets it pretty close and is available just about everywhere. Again thanks for this thread! Another small but significant mystery solved for me. :stupid: Jim D. "Zup"

Can Shelby wheels be located or repaired?
Hi Stephen--- Your's are another rim pattern that I like! There's just somethin about 4 lugs and four spokes that goes together. I guess it's the symmetry. Just looks right!! Hey Carl--- Thanks for the post about the balancing of these rims! Maybe now I think I was a bit harsh with the first outfit that tried to balance them up. Your post indicates that due to the equipment they were using maybe that victory chain of weights they had installed was the best that they could do.!?! It's for sure I'll ask questions BEFORE I let someone balance tires on a rim of this type in the future! :stupid: Jim D. "Zup"

Can Shelby wheels be located or repaired?
Moonpup--- You'll notice that I said "fiasco" in my post. Boy was it ever!! Not only did they lose my cap---they put those G'Damn stick on weights all over the inside and outside of the rims. I had given up on the first place---got my money back and told them they'd never see me again!! Sheeesh!!! I took this pic just before I posted on the boards about wanting to find a new cap and just before I went to a different shop and had them balance the rims correctly with the weights on the inside, as you mentioned. All better now--- Jim D. "Zup"

Can Shelby wheels be located or repaired?
My favorite rim of all time for an early 240Z. Someday I may have to get a set of authentic ARE Libres---a guy can dream---yeah I have a set of "Libre" knock-off made by "US TRANS AM". :classic: They were another one of the copycat manufacturers of these rims as mentioned before. It took me a while to realize that the Z centercap wasn't original to these rims. :stupid: A PO had taken 300ZX centercaps and whittled them down ever so slightly so that they would press fit into the centerhole. Pretty clever I think! When a local tireshop lost one of them during a tire mounting and balancing fiasco, I got pretty upset. They never did find the damn thing! :hurt: I wound up posting here in the Classifieds section for anyone who might part with a set and got my wish-----whittled it down with a sharp exact-o knife. I've since bought another nicer set. Tomorrow I'll post up a pic of another Shelby rim I like that is pretty "ole skool"!! Good thread! Jim D. "Zup"

Parting '73, what do you guys need?
Paul, What is the condition of the interior (seats, door panels, trim pieces, etc.)? Are the rims and center caps on the opposite side of the car in the same shape as the one's on the side shown in the pictures? Is all of the A/C intact? I'm interested in the ducting shown in the pictures as well. Carpet? Underpadding? You mentioned the core support. Is it in usable condition? A long shot, I know, but thought I would ask! Just let me know and maybe we can continue to work up a deal. Jim D. "Zup"

Parting out my 77 280z
Hi Curtis--- I'm looking to find and purchase a section of the wiring harness which is missing from a 75 280Z. I have a post about it several threads up from this one. Please look and see if you have this part and let me know if you would be willing to let me purchase it from you. Thanks! Jim D. "Zup"

Wiring connector??
Hi all- Please help me identify and find the wiring that is missing here. It is on a 1975 280Z -manual tranny-that is completely stock. The 8 pin connector that is shown in the pic comes from the wiring harness on the passenger side engine frame rail. From the FSM wiring diagram on Blue’s site, it appears that it has leads that go to the starter, alternator, neutral switch, back up switch, and oil pressure switch. There are other connections used –not used---depending on whether or not it has a manual or auto tranny. What is this piece of the wiring harness called and where can I find one? The car belongs to a friend of mine that did a restore, lost the part, and hasn’t started the car in 3 years. He would really like to get it up and running as I am sure you can imagine.:surprised Any and all help is greatly appreciated!! Thanks. Jim D. "Zup"

Identify seat reclining mechanism?
Been thinking about that for mine as well Arnie. Epoxy as become my friend for so many repairs to plastic. I was mulling triming up a nearly destroyed one to fashion tabs---a few fabric hole re-inforcement circles used for hole punched paper----and judicious use of my friend mentioned above. It might work. :nervous: Please do let us know your thoughts and methods when you get to it.

Identify seat reclining mechanism?
Nice find already Arnie!! :classic: An intact mechanism cover for the driver's side seat-back adjuster---pretty scarce to find in good shape if the screw mounting tabs aren't boogered!!! Someone from this site was going to reproduce those covers, and got a good number of responses to the idea, but it kinda fizzled out. I don't know what became of it. I agree that the lever type adjuster is a whole lot easier and more convenient--beats the heck out of the knob type.

My second 240Z...
"It is seriously damaged, but still has a fair number of useable parts, some that will go on my car, some I'll keep as spares, and some I'll sell." Choke cables? Passenger headlight bucket? Are the buckets fiberglass or metal? LMK. Thanks Arnie! Jim D. "Zup"

Tach housings and connections?
I have read that the housings can be swapped between a 240 tach and a 280 tach so that the 280 guts will fit properly in the dash of a 240Z. I have noticed that the round silver tach needle assembly on the 280 tach is larger than the one on the 240. Can these be swapped as well so that it will appear the same as the one on the 240 speedo? Seems someone suggested using a dinner fork and some delicate persuasion. Also---I have attached pics of the rear of the tachs. To connect the 280 tach to the harness can I cut into the black and red tagged loop harness of the 240 tach shown and attach a female bullet connector so that it will clip onto the single pin of the 280 tach and still retain the white connector for the 240z dash harness? Would this work properly? Finally---is the 240 tach a three wire or a four wire and are both of these tachs negative trip type? While I searched and read to get this far, I am still uncertain as to what exactly will work and what I am working with. Many thanks for your assistance! :classic:

New to the site
Hey Steve---good to see ya join in here. :classic: This site is the best when it comes to the early Z'z, but you get around to all of em since you have one of each Gen. Early 240Z wheels and hubcaps
Great find Arnie! I spoke with Ken----real nice fella. I don't think he had much of a clue as to what they were currently worth to a Z lover. Let's just say that you drew an Ace! :classic: Jim D. "Zup"

Early 240Z wheels and hubcaps
Arnie, Were these advertised on "craigslist" recently? I ran across an ad there for a set that had been removed when new and stored in the attic. As I remember the asking pice was extremely reasonable. A few days later I tried to resurrect the ad but was unable to find it. Anyway, buy them, as many have said they are worth setting aside for sure, even if you don't intend to use them on your car. Jim D. "Zup"

Went to the Barrett-Jackson Auction today !!!!! 72 240Z up for bids !!!!
AWC--- "I wonder what the most profitable type of car to restore and sell is? It would have to be something with lots of unrestored examples, few restored specimens on the market, a broad market appeal, and readily available parts." You must be thinking a early Z car----one of the few automotive examples that meets all of your criteria! Jim D. "Zup"

Breaker plate/vacuum advance cam
My thanks to all of you for your replys and suggestions. My intent is to rebuild the distributor per the "how to" described by Phillip Pilgrim (Blue/Zero) and Wayne Monteath found here: http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/distributorrebuild/index.html It is an excellent article. While John's suggestion of JBWelding the plates together is appreciated, it is my last resort. I agree with Gary that for a good idle and fuel economy the vacuum advance working properly is a must. The dizzy can be rebuilt, but only if I can find the lower plastic bearing retainer and 1 ball bearing. To me it is more desirable to find just these parts than to spend $50.00 for a new assembly-----not because I am cheap---although I do want to do it inexpensively. So that is my next best choice. (I don't understand why the lower plate is plastic, when the upper one is made of metal and much more durable. There must be a reason. But why??) The offer by Jorn is a fine gesture and I can really see that he is blessed with skills and determination by fabricating his own replacement parts! Kudos!!! So, yes--please, Jorn. Let me know by PM or e-mail and hopefully I can pay you something reasonable for it, or "pay it forward". I love these forums for the limitless information and the good will to be had here in our persuit of something we enjoy. You guy's are all "The Best". :knockedou Jim D. "Zup"
