Okay, I've tried this process twice and failed both times. The first time I used a battery charger that was too smart for its own good. It threw an error code that said the battery was too far dead to be charged. I was trying to use 2 amps and it was a 12-volt charger. So I bought a simpler charger designed for smaller batteries. It is a 6 or 12 volt (you can select which) and 1.5 amps. This charger has three lights that indicate what it is up to: "Charging," "Charged," and "Trouble." Well about five minutes after I start it up it will switch over to "Trouble" and quit sending current. Can anyone recommend a charger or other power source that will just send current without asking questions?

No worries about drips and runs that may crack later as the primer dries and the drips shrink?
  3. Wow, your Z looks very nice. Can anyone say (or maybe you know) if that is an original z color?
  4. Nice project! My girlfriend would *kill* me though, if I took on another car. The roadster is currently occupying both slots in our garage. Is that grey primer or bare metal exposed? Man, that is a really nice start on a rebuild. Is there a Texas title (or any title)?
  5. There is a 73 in Ft. Worth, but it is an auto. Check out: http://www.zcluboftexas.org/classifieds/classified_body.html

So you will prime first, and then apply new seam sealer, correct? What will you be using for the seam sealer? Thanks--this is all good information and the car looks great.

How do you intend to hold off surface rust from the time the body comes out of dip to the time you prime it? My biggest worry with a full strip is that invisible surface rust will develop before I can get the car home and get a coat of paint on it.

Personally I don't mind the press coverage, interviews, etc. I find her to be the most attractive driver in the Indy 500, by far.

Do you have a link for this article or is it a hardcopy-only publication?

Is that Don Morrell? I know him from Rising Sun Racing, his roadster parts business. I've only dealt with him to buy parts, but he's a good guy. Sounds like you got a gem there. Congratulations.

The ebay listing says he put on those wheels. You should get him to throw-in the original wheels and sell me those Panasports!
  12. That picture of your wiring harness scares the hell out of me.

Just goes to show you that, with some elbow grease, you can end up with something pretty nice. I would also like to see a step-by-step.

Seems a shame that all those parts went to their death in Albuquerque. You are correct--it's difficult to assess the value of something like this. Although the admission that he is a "non-computer guy" makes me think that these parts + ebay could = $$$. I'm halfway across the country, though.

I saw this ad on Craigslist where I guy is liquidating his entire inventory of Z-parts, located in Sonoma, California, for $15,000. It looks like he has A LOT of parts. I don't have any other information than what was in the ad, but thought it may be of interest to someone here. Here's a link to the ad: http://www.craigslist.org/nby/car/62610177.html

Hi there. I work in Austin (where I was when I signed up for this board), out on 2222. I actually live up in Cedar Park. No Z (YET), but I love these cars. My dad had an orange 240 growing up and I've been hooked ever since. I'm actually interested in #40 listed in the classifieds, but that is a lot of money for me for a project car. I'm also leaning towards a 510 project car and much of the information I have found on this site that pertains to interior and exterior restoration will be very useful. Even if I do the 510 first, I will have a 240Z someday. No question about that.

That's a bit scary. And to think we spend money on car alarms.

You should have waited to start the restoration until your odo was ready to roll over the next time.
  19. Here's a loaded question: Which is your favorite?

I'll keep my eyes open for someone selling it.

Hey Sharkman. The short answer is "yes" it is worth something and for god's sake, do not part it out. Someone out there (someone here, no doubt) would cherish having an intact Z as early as yours. How much exactly is it worth? It's worth what the buyer is willing to pay--no more and no less. I'm sure there is a range prices that you and a prospective buyer could find that would be mutually satisfactory. Or you may want to hold onto it, do some work, and enjoy it yourself.

Hey, I'd like an update on how it went. Was the vacuum or compressed air more effective? Also, did you apply the primer yourself? If so, in your opinion is this something someone should do without professional equipment?
  23. Any chance the modern Z six-speed will bolt up to the RWD platform QR25DE engine found in the base model 05 Frontiers? I know the QR comes with a FWD 6-speed in the Spec-V and the 4.0L V6 05 Frontiers come with a 6-speed option (presumably the same tranny as the Z). Is that bolt pattern the same on the QR25 as the on VQ35?
