R200 worth it??
The differential in my 280Z is busted. The sound I thought was U joints ended up being a metallic knocking and banging from the diff. I decided to go with the R200 because I enjoy fast acceleration and never really drive highway in the car. I was able to locate an R200 near me, but the guy is asking $200 for it. Seems awfully over priced. I was also able to find an R180 for $85. I really am pretty short on cash right now, but I would also like to take every chance I get on making my repairs an upgrade. My question is, is the 3.90 gear ratio going to improve my accleration enough to make an impact on, say, my 1/4 mile time to make it worth it? The last thing I want to do is spend all that extra money and find it doesn't do anything for me.

Should i get a performance Monza exhaust system?
40 series is louder, but that is why I got the Delta series 40. It is about as loud on the outside, but a lot quieter inside. You can still hear it, but not bad at all even with both windows down. I think it is the perfect balance.

Should i get a performance Monza exhaust system?
I don't know anything about Monza, but I replaced my exhaust with a 2.25" pipe and a Flowmaster Delta 40 series muffler, and it sounds GREAT! When I got the car, the Previous owner had choped off the last half of the stock exhaust and clamped on the piping and muffler off an old Honda. The pipe was about an inch around the the muffler was clogged. I took it to the muffler shop and had him change it all out. He cut out the pre-muffler too. It all cost about $170 including labor and all welded connections.

New to site
Hey, I'm from Wichita. When did you find it here? Must have been in pretty darn good shape to get you all the way home. I've never driven mine for more that a 2 hour drive.

One thing after another.
I did check the belt, and it's still plenty tight. I have a feeling the alternater is bad. I think I'll pull it off and have it checked out tomorrow. The guy who owned this car before me was a real jackass for many reasons. The alternater on here is made by Mitsubishi and is probably the wrong kind anyways. When the guy put it on, rather than removing the bolt in the arm to take it off, he cut the arm in half to pull out the alternater, which leads me to believe he probably didn't get the right alternater in the first place. Naturally, I had to get a new arm.

One thing after another.
Alrighty then, So I finally get this car up and running again. I know the U-joints now need replacing as they clank and buzz sometimes. What I don't know is what happend to the car this weekend. Yesterday while driving around, I noticed the charge light on my voltometer came on while driving, and the needle dropped to about 12.5 (it normally stays around 15) and the headlights and interior lights were very dim. Combined with that, It was idleing at only about 600rpm. I got out and attemped to turn up the idle. When I did I could hear what sounded like air rushing into the intake manifold, but it didn't change the idle speed at all. Strange. I also switched out batteries and it didn't help my electrical problem. Today, the car wouldn't start and I had to set the battery on a charger for a while to get it to fire up. Everything seemed okay, but when I took it for a spin around the block, the power problem returned. There are 2 things I think that could have something to do with my problems. For one, I recharged my air filter, and I may have used too much oil. Second, I was driving on some REALLY bumpy dirt roads this weekend. Nothing prolonged, just at a few intersections where it got really bumpy and my old struts made the car shake pretty hard. I have checked the fuses and electrical connections under the hood, and can't find anything wrong. Alternator? Im thinking something may have gotten shaken loose on the bumpy roads. Any ideas?

Got some rough Paint
Does it look like mine? See along the top of the sides how it's got that grey line up there? My paint oxidized like that and rubbing compound didn't work for me either. Wet sanding did the trick, and that grey is not there anymore on that side.

More Z's on Ebay....Very Sad
I'd almost consider bidding, but he is 3 hours away from me. Hauling 4 cars 300 miles would be tough. I'd also have nowhere close to store them.

broken water pump bolt!!!
When I took off my timing cover, I cheated and didn't even remove the oil pan. I just took out the front bolts that run into the timing cover and slid it out. Before I put it back on, I used a bunch of the silicon gasket stuff and spread it around the old gasket. It works fine and doesn't leak at all. It's probably not the right thing to do, but I got away with it.

Cool Z videos
That one with the blue 280ZX racing the Camaro was filmed down at my home track 15 min from where I live! I've seen pics of him on the track's website, but never knew he ran 12's. Pretty cool. Maybe I'll see him down there this coming season.

Extra engine #2
Picked up the motor at a salvage yard. From a 79ZX with N47 head. Not great, but it only has 130k miles on it.

One last look at the pistons.
New head gasket set on, then comes the head. Took a final look in there until next project (which I hope isn't for a while)
