I agree with you about the listing - next to nothing in terms of a description and only a single picture of the car. I briefly spoke with the seller and he seemed to be a really nice guy. He told me that he bought the 240Z from the original owner and he has all of the original manuals, warranty book, window sticker, repair receipts and mileage documentation. The seller also mentioned that he replaced the rear bumper since it was damaged in a rear collision to the car. He also pulled the small dent out and did some very minor body work before installing a brand new rear bumper that the original owner had purchased many years ago and had been sitting in his garage.

I agree, the price seems just about right for both parties. I was glad to see that the reserve was set a reasonable amount for this beautiful 280Z. It will be interesting to see what the auction winner does with the car - does he drive the car every once in a while or will this car be a trailer queen that is just towed to car shows? It will also be interesting to see what becomes of one of the lowest mileage classic sports cars in the world.

Brunodoggy - looks like your car is up to $100k now. A car like yours will do well no matter what time of year you decide to put it up for auction. I think that $100k is just the starting point for your Z and I have a feeling that it will go for much higher than the current $100k bid. Good luck to you!

This 280Z belongs in a museum! That way, more people can see this beauty versus having the car sit in some collector's garage.

In 1989 while I was wrenching at Mel Clayton Ford in Santa Barbara it came in as a trade. The previous owner's wife wouldn't let him get a new car until he got rid of an old one. He drove this one the least of the ones he owned so it was the first to go. I bought it from Mel Clayton immediately. It was in pristine condition, although I did have the bumpers re-chromed at the time. I've entered it only once to a car show and it won 2nd place for its class at the June 2007 ZONC. Over the years I’ve enjoyed caring for this treasure. The items I’ve upgraded and the spare parts included are described below (including a newly rebuilt L28 engine long block--see photos). I’ve retained all the receipts. If you’re interested in the car and have any questions please call me, I love talking about this car. This is a low-mile vehicle due to JDM right-hand drive configuration. Nice NOS 240Z power antenna with bullet tip - looks great! But I have to agree with Jeff Berk, the $20.00 shipping cost is the deal killer!

I really didn't read all the details about this car and never took the time to look at all the pictures, including the picture of Pierre's sales receipt above. All I know is that I got tired of all the posts about the hubcaps and that 2 of them were different than the other 2 and if they were fakes. I just stated that the 2 hubcaps in question looked real to me and that they were just painted incorrectly. That's all. I assume that the set of 4 came probably came from 2 different sources, which would explain the differences.

Welcome, Miljack! HLS30-00798 is a very low VIN! Amazing to hear that Carl Beck was able to track down your old 240Z and it still is around! 904 White with Blue interior is a great and rare color combination - I sold my '71 904 White with Blue interior and I wish I still had it. I've been trying to find my very first 240Z that I had in college HLS30-59523 for years, but haven't had any luck. Good luck to you in your search!

919 Sunshine Yellow is such a great color for a 240Z! A one owner car with less than 90k original miles, documentation and its original matching-numbers engine will certainly help the value of your dad's 240Z. As zeeboost mentions in his earlier post, a similar '70 919 Yellow 240Z with a little over 100k miles which the 2nd owner had the car for 49 years that is in better condition than your dad's and sold in a very competitive auction in July for $43.5k. The car also has a lower VIN of HLS30-02207, which made that car even more desirable. To be honest, it is going to be tough to find a set of 1970 steel wheels that have a date stamp that would be correct for a 6/70 manufacture date. 1970 date-stamped steel wheels have become very expensive. However, there are currently a couple of Series I cars on BaT that have later date stamped steel wheels and I don't think they affect the value too much. Since your dad still has the car's original D wheel covers and you live in LA, you should be able to find a decent set of steel wheels for your dad's car.

I'm not sure about the oil pan, but I do know that there were a number of late '70 model year 240Zs that were titled and licensed as a 1971. I recently sold my 7/70 240Z and it was titled as a 1971. The subject car was built in 8/70 and has the same story. I know there are a few members here that have mentioned this as well about their cars. I currently own an 8/71 and I used to have another 8/71 and both cars were both titled and licensed as 1971 cars. I'm not sure if this was mostly a late 1970 model year issue or if this was also the case for later model 240Zs as well.

I had the same issue for one of my Hitachi radios and ordered a pair from Wholesale Electronics, Inc. The nuts are 8MM and are made specifically for import radios. www.weisd.com is located in Mitchell, SD. The 2 nuts were only 8-cents apiece and were the last 2 available. Hopefully, they have more now. The grand total with shipping was $10.06. Steve
