  1. I used the stock type gasket from my import parts store. I then took the copper high heat sealant and put a bead on both sides of the gasket before installing. It has been holding up fine for me. The first time I intalled it I didn't use the copper sealant and had leaks. Also I used anti seize on all the mounting studs and bolts. It is much easier to get the nuts back off later.
  2. Just get a fuel Cell and Drift away
  3. Don't let 2ManyZ's pick one. He doesn't know what a running 240Z looks like Acually I like the random car pick. When you start getting into the Car of the Month stuff. You get people voting for their friends, or the high dollar cars getting picked all the time. I like hoew you picked EricB's car. He has been working hard on it and isn't doing a frame off or show type car.
  4. The bad part is if you see a bit of rust and start scraping you find all kinds of rust
  5. Rolf, That looks pretty darn good after it was painted and the bumper hung.

I think I found it from a link from another Z site , but can't remember exactly. To much web surfing :stupid:

I always liked the looks of that car He might have just bought those wheels and those tires could have come off his other wheels. I agree that the wheels are wider then the tires, but they seem to fill the fender well.

2ManyZ's that is SCCA Pro Solo. Kind of like drag racing with cones The only thing about Pro Solo is it can cause you to have more breakage, becuase of having to launch the car when the light goes green .

Steve, I am a newbie to this type of motorsports. I did spend the better part of my youth crewing for a drag racer on his dragster. I also worked at a performance parts shop. I choose the Z as my fun car , because there is alot of information on racing the car and its lower cost to run it. I have been picking peoples brains as much as I dare to. Ask 2ManyZ's , He is probably getting pretty tired of all my questions. Another source of information is magazines like Grassroots motorsports. They have been staying pretty loyal to the lower budget racers. I am not sure if you know the difference between Solo and Solo 1. Solo is also known as autocross, ot gymkhana. It is run around cones and it is a timed event with three or four runs with your best run counting toward you results. Solo 1 is more like a time trial and is run on road courses or hillclimbs. It requires more safety equipment and a racing license.

Don't get 2ManyZ's going on this one. That 240Z ITS car in his garage has been eating at him for awhile. Around here a few high dollar Beamers are winning ITS. My friend wrenches on a BMW that the guy has over 50K into . One good thing is that the Z can run in E Production $$$$$$ or Vintage . A few guys are changing their cars into Vintage racers. I am setting my car up for Autocross , Solo 1 and Hillclimbs. Erik at EMI Racing gave me a list of things to do to the suspension to get it close to where I should be. He is a suspension Guru who has put together a few winning race car suspension. He makes awesome camber plates for the Z's and knows the cars well. Good Luck and let us know how its coming along.
  11. Hmmmmmmm !!! What I would do if I had to do it again. I would really check over the car better. I bought mine from a friend and it was exactly as stated. I would make a list of the things I have to have and the stuff I would like to have. I research everything a bit better before starting anything. I finally have a master plan on the suspension stuff after I made a few mistakes. I don't have a budget on my car , since I don't have any money . I just sell a few Roadster parts I have to pay for things I need on he Z.

Hey Rick, Sorry to say alot of the stuff you see on the parts data bases are rapidly becoming NLA thanks to Renualt .
  13. Dust shield rubbing against the rotor is another thing it could be .
  14. The T/C ( radius) rod just unblots and you replace the rubber bushings. If you want the suspension a bit tighter go with the urethane. The control arm bushings take a bit more work to replace them.
  15. Hey Zpoint, If you noticed Grayson Upchurchs E Production car is listed as well as an ITS 240Z.

Subies in the US use the R160 Diff not the R180. And they do bolt into Z's and 510's with a few changes. If you are hard on your diff you don't want to go the way of a Subie diff.
  17. The picture of the under carriage sway bar shows and aftermarket one. It is the one most tuners will tell you to put on. It doesn't put a load on your underbody like the factory ones. The above picture of the rusty sway bar in the driveway looks like the Nissan one. That one looks like it fits in the factory 240 frame mounts. The US late 260 bar won't fit in the US market 240 mounts, its longer and doesn't have the bent to clear the diff housing. I tried pulling my 260 one and fitting it to my 240 .
  18. Brian, I really need to get the darn thing painted, but have been holding off until I get some of the mechanical stuff done first. Actually I know a few folks in Oregon that either race or get together for fun runs. I Have driven over for the Blue Lake Datsun show before. Plus when and if I make it to the big Shasta Datsun Meet I will probably pass through Oregon. Oregon also has a few well know hillclimbs. Hopefully I will have my car sorted enough for the Larison Hillclimb next year or if the Pendleton event makes it back on the schedule next year maybe that one. There is a hillclimb in Maryhill, WA in October just across from the Dalles. I might also make it over for the Road Race Enduro in October. 8 hours of road racing into the night. I will just be a spectator at that one. TS .... I am about 10 hours north of you , so it would be a long haul for a one day event. Eastern Idaho has an autocross club and has events down your way and also so does some of the clubs in Utah. Also some great hillclimb and other stuff going on down your way. Let me know if you need any contact info. . I know a few Datsun racers down your way also. Mike
  19. TS, Here is what I propose. First of all lets check with Mike on setting up a forum for us. On this Forum we can post events that are coming up, big ones are even a few guys in your area that want to go for a run. The lower profile the Club is the more fun you have. You will find that interests very for person to person. I would say at first build it under the 240z.org Forums section. It allows us to get the word out. I hate the idea of Presidents and officers if we are just looking to have a great time. One thing that this allows us to do is pool our parts resources together. Right now I have a Z guy from Walla Walla checking on some parts from one of his parts cars for me. The best part is that We would be closer for large body panel swaps and such. There are two large Z only Dismantlers in our area. One is located in the Salt Lake area and the guy has around 200 Z's the other is in Southern Idaho and has over 150 cars. I will start us off by letting you know I will be autocrossing on Sunday Septmeber 15th in Spokane. Then again the second weekend of October at Spokane Raceway Park on the Road Course . That event is a two day autocross. We usually have around 5 to 10 Z's at our autocross events. If you have something like that in your area and you want somebody to join you then post it. Don't forget we can Private Message folks on here. Thanks, Mike
  20. Hey, I have had several people ask about any Z Clubs in the Inland Northwest. The only clubs I know about are over on the coast. Anyone interested in starting a forum on here for us Inlanders ? Mainly Idaho , Montana, Eastern Washington , Utah and parts of Oregon. Lots of events in these areas for us to attend and pass on the information. Let me know your thoughts on this one. I am up in Coeur d' Alene ,Idaho and will be autocrossing and hillclimbing all over the inland Northwest next year.
  21. The only thing I don't like when putting it on stands as that you are getting the same corner loads as you would by sitting it on the tires. Different load angles would change some of the numbers, but in Kmacks case it would have worked fine because he was just trying to prove if one arm was longer then the other. The only Z club I know about in the Northwest is the Washington one out of Seattle. They have three up in Canada , but none that I know of in the Southern Idaho , Northern Utah area. I am way up in Coeur d' Alene and pretty much hang around with the local Z and Datsun guys. We have tons of them up here. I know of a couple of guys in Southern Idaho and Utah that have Z's. Mike said he would host a club forum for any of us who were interested. Let me know if we should do a Inland Northwest forum.
  22. I agree that the plumb bob and triangulation works great, and its used on a few chassis adjustments on cars. I can't imagine getting underneath my car and trying to set one up. I have about 5" from body panel to ground with my race tires on , and the frame rails sit a bit lower then that. I think my plumb bob is about 3" long. It would be a very tight fit under there. I am really just starting to get into the math portion of the suspension .It does help that the SO is a math major.
  23. Hey Ken, I have the opposite problem you have. I have excess negative camber. I wore out a set of tires in about 3K. It was pretty scary when I corded a front tire on the way to an autocross. I will be replacing all the bushings and stuff before putting in camber plates and coil overs.

Stephen, Very cool video of your car and Pierre Z's operation. I actually viewed the autocross one on solo2.com's web site Tom's video's are very very cool. I think I have viewed them like 100 times, and yes his CC wheels are sweet . Vic Sias was running them on his car also. I have a few videos I need to convert to mpg of my car on a autocross course (in car).
