  1. Yeah I read the resto thread, but it didn't really have much to say. The wheel is worse than it looks in the Photos, half of the clear has peeled off, so i want to strip it all off and revarnish it, but I didn't want to damage the plastic wood finish. I was thinking about using a chemical stripper as sanding might remove the wood grain detail and leave me with a plastic look. but stripper migh affect the plastic also. I just wanted t get a few responses from people that have actually resto'd their wheels and how they did it.
  2. And who can be botherd changing through 6 gears anyway. 5's enough, half the time you get to the speed limit in 3rd, and skip 4th to go straight to 5th. Sometimes i dont even get to 3rd. Damn 50Kph limit. 6 speed boxes are for cars with loads of power, and/or a little on the heavy side, so that you can have a lower 1st gear to get the car moving, and a higher overdrive gear for fast speeds that you never get to drive the car at anyway. Glad to see your trying to learn about stuff Raven. I had a friend that thought cars were something you just had to get from A to B. He thought his new Hyundai excell was a nice car, untill he bought a '90 Twin Turbo Supra. Now he's really into cars and is always asking me whats OHC mean?, how's a turbo work, etc etc etc.
  3. On the '72 240z I just bought the steering wheel spokes are silver, looks like its paint (Someones gone crazy with silver paint under the bonnet also, airfilter cover, front grill, oil cap, brake fluid caps). They are supposed to be matt black aren't they. Also the clear coat varnish on the "wood" is peeling off. Anyone got any tips on fixing up the steering wheel. And the Datsun 240z badge on the glovebox, is the lettering supposed to be painted white?
  4. Single Bulb from a 2/72 240z. Heres a pic of the busted one.
  5. Ha. I just stuck a SST automotive sticker on the back of my zed. I had it left over from the auto salon. I was going to stick it on the commodore, but then people might want to race me. I need a Front left indicator lense (clear type). Choke lever handle, air vent handle. Umm thats all i can remember at the moment. Oh yeah a 240z gearbox. Mine has a 240K box. And new rings by the look of the smoke thats coming out the exhaust.

  7. I've uploaded some photos so click on the My Photo Gallery Link <----------------- Click there
  8. I Still think my Photoshopped 350Z looks better than the real 350Z.
  9. Here's a Tamiya Model of a 350ZG 350Z with a G nose! Looks like something they invented, or some modeller has modified a standard 350Z model, but it's all in Japanese so I dont know the story. 350ZG Link
  10. C-Red. Post some pictures please, I'd like to know what it looks like. It it the 240K looking type. A friend of mine had a C210? series Skyline 2000GT (Turbo L20 6 cyl) coupe about 10 yeas ago in Perth. Pretty nice car, electric everything, just a little strange looking. Looked exactly like this picture
  11. I just bought a 240z today in Perth WA. Needs a bit of work, but I'm up for it. Should be fun. It's my second 240z, the first was a 72 and in very poor condition. I Sold it years ago. The new 240z is also a 72, but in a lot better condition (not much rust at all). What's the deal with the speedo being in MPH? both of them were, but Australia uses KPH, and has done since about 1960something. Anyone in Australia with a speedo in KPH? if so what year car is it? I've borrowed a Digital camera from a friend and will have a few pictures up soon.
  12. Yep we call it a handbrake in Australia, and as its a RHD, its nice and handy. I think since the 240z has such a tall transmission tunnel, and the seats are pretty low, they didn't want to mount it on top, centrally, as i might make it a bit arkward to use. My old celica on the other hand had a lower trans tunnel, and the handbrake was right in the middle of it between the seats.
  13. I've seen similar wheels on a 240K.
  14. The 73 has other advantages over the 70 in other areas. Something about the diff being repositioned so the drive shafts are on less of an angle, some other stuff i cant remember at the moment also.
  15. Wrong. A wing at the back provides down force onto the rear tires increasing grip through hi-speed turns and making the car more stable, no matter whether the car is front or rear wheel drive. Take a front wheel drive with a rear wing, thrash it around a race track, then take the wing off, and do the same and you'll notice the car is a lot looser in the back end. Then play demo derbys with it, and smash it up, cause rear wheel drive rocks, and front wheel drive sucks.

Ok time to play devils advocate. The guy has every right to hold out for his asking price. You offered a price less than he was asking, and he's got someone else interested, of course he's gonna wait and see how much the other guy will offer. You don't just sell to the first person that walks up and makes an offer. Just dont get into a bidding war. You should have told him that was your final offer when he wanted time to think about it, and that he should accept it, and not let him play you for a chump. Or maybe he is a wanker and there isn't another buyer and he's just trying to make you pay a bit more. When he phones you back say you've reconsidered and offer him a bit less than before, and give him reasons like (is this the one with the skyline box? thats a big reason to offer less, rust, missing trim all the usual crap). There are other zeds out there. How much is this guy asking anyway?
  17. We also have a lots of 80's model R30 skylines in Perth that were imported in the 80's as second hand imports (amongst other rare Jap model cars like r30 coupes, corona coupes, A friend of mine had a C211 2000GT skyline with and L20ET 6cyl. And masses of series 1 and 2 rx7's, cordias, celica etc etc.) Anyway the skylines have 6 cyl Lseries engines with fuel injection, and probably have r200 diffs as well.
  18. That would be cool. Get some custom aussie plates with the same numbers as US plates, then swap them. Guess it would look better on a US car though.
  19. I think i speak for most 240z seekers in Perth Australia when I say.. ...I hate you! :tapemouth Just kidding.
  20. Gee. What state are you in? Did you buy the 240z yet? If its in canning vale WA, I doubt the same old guy has owned it for the last 15 years. There seems to be a little "operation" going on there. The only difference between a 240z and a 432 to look at them is the badging, "Fairlady Z 432" for the 432 and "Datsun 240Z" for the 240. Lift the bonnet and its a different story. They weren't sold in any other markets than Japan as far as i know.
  21. These sort of stripes, but grey.
  22. P.S.S. What, you mean "ugly toad" is still available for the 350z? They should make it in the new commodore green colour.
  23. Well it apears 240z's aren't that rare in perth. I went for a driive down to Freo to look at a celica XX supra (which turned out to be the older model, not the newer one), and saw 2 of them. One on the way there and one on the way back. Whoever owns the red/orange one with the personal plates and the original 240z side stripes that was at leighton beach today, I want your car! Sell it to me, name your price. P.S. The sandblasted 260 in warnbro is a 2+2.
  24. Yeah most likely they are the Horiblie old Blue plates. I used to have ZZ 240. that was 10 years ago, Z 240 was already gone, and i think ZZZ 240 was gone at the time also. With the new plates you can get any combination of letters and numbers up to 9 characters, so you can actuall get 240Z if they aint gone already. Have you noticed all the plates for sale. I think every time a new car comes out someone gets plates for it then sells them, even though they dont have the car. So for example I could get 350Z for around $300 from the Licencing department, then turn around and sell them for $3500. And it's legal. RX8 anybody? I dont even think you have to own a car to do this.
