Bambi would've liked this one.
Over the weekend, Laura Bush discovered George hiding in a closet, sucking his thumb and crying like a baby. "Oh George, what is making you so sad that you hide in the closet and cry?" she asked. After a moment, he stopped crying long enough to tell her what had made him so sad. Laura then leaned down and gave him a big hug and said, "Now don't you cry George. We'll go out for Ice Cream and on the way back we'll stop at the Rove Department Store and buy you a new Scooter."

OEM color of grill on hood?
I think he's talking about the vents in the hood of a 280Z, not the actual grille in front of the car.

Brake Line (Metric Steel Tube Nuts)
I've bought pre-made lines also, but the fittings always require a US Standard 7/16" wrench, not the Datsun standard 10mm wrench. I hatre having to use a "special wrench" for one line that is different frojm all the others. Wish it was possible to get fittings with the 10mm hex & 10mm x 1.0 thread.

Brake Line (Metric Steel Tube Nuts)
So if I'm understanding, you would use a 3/16" wrench on these, but they have 10mm x 1.0 threads. Yes, No?

Weatherstrip tutorials?
There are plastic clips that go through the holes in the w/s, and into corresponding holes in the bottom of the door. you may need to look more carefully to see them, but they are there.

Oil pump installation!
Glad you got it running good, but this is the first time I've heard of having to set it 1 tooth off in that direction. However, it does prove the point that the illustrations in the manuals can't always be taken as being 100% correct in every situatuion. Hard to figure out why this happens, but to my way of thinking, the only variable is the adjustment bolt between the distributor and the distributor base. Timing chain doesn't come into play in this situation, the oil pump & distributor d/s is gear driven so there shouldn't be anything to cause variance there.

that electrical resistor thinggy...
not MY alt; YOUR alt. http://www.autoshop101.com/forms/h3.pdf see page 7 left side 'Paper and Foil type" capacitors. Is that like it???

Oil pump installation!
If you're talking about the pic at the bottom of my post #19, THAT is where the rotor was with the dist/oil pump shaft set like the manual (and you) described. definitely one tooth off even though shaft matched pic in the manuals 11:25 Valves had NOTHING to do with it. It was distributor timing issue ONLY!!!!! Engine runs like a freakin freight train set the way I described (11:29). Didn't need to touch the valve timing at all (it was/is set correct from the beginning)

that electrical resistor thinggy...
need a picture. its probably a noise supressor (capacitor), but hard to tell from a description like "small resistor thingy". does it look like any of these? http://www.williamson-labs.com/resistors.htm

Oil pump installation!
Nope, couldn't be that in my case. New Chain, Tensioner, Guides, etc. Besides chain doesn't come into play with this at all. Think about it, oil pump shaft connects to the crankshaft/oil pump drive gear only, dist connects to the oil pump shaft only. Chain has nothing to do with it. wires set correctly as well according to pic. I found all the pics I posted in a members gallery. he doesn't reply to my PMs, so thats all I know, except that his pics show what worked for me. _____________________________________________________________ Wires set following this: _________________________________________________________________ This is basically what my engine looked like but I have points in my dist. Set the way the manual says, rotor was in the wrong place, and couldn't be adjusted far enough to get where it needed to be. I set shaft to 11:29 and I had good adjustment to either side of TDC. ____________________________________________________________ I'm not saying this works for everyone, but this was the only way it worked for me. I tried one tooth in either direction and could not get the engine to run worth a darn. even when I maxxed the adjustment that I mentioned between dist and dist base to no avail. Somewhere here I saw a thread that talked about this (can't find it now) and some other people said they had the same situation at sometime or other.

Oil pump installation!
well, thats all fine and dandy to SAY, but it didn't work for me. My car would not start with things lined up that way. (have you read the previous posts?) Some may say the way I set mine is wrong, but if that's the only way IT WORKED for my car, then it's right for my car, and if it's right for my car, it's probably right for some others. One thing no one seems to be mentioning is that there is an adjustment bolt between the distributor, and the distributor base that will limit total timing adjustment depending on its position.

Oil pump installation!
I guess I'm a little confused, posted 3 pics. which one (or two, or three, all of the above) didn't work? Which will you try next?

Oil pump installation!
What ever happened to this problem you were having? Which pic above, if any, shows the oil pump driveshaft orientation that you have set? It would be nice to know the resolution of your situation.

Has anyone replaced/rebuilt their Master Vac?
the only way to know that EVERYTHING is in 100% top condition is to rebuild/replace EVERTHING. Until that is done, issues can pop up from time to time in a 30 year old car. Had you rebuilt the brake booster before your recent problem cropped up??
