I know this sounds dumb, but did you put the T.O. bearing in backwards? Ive been there and done that. If you did you will have to replace it. FYI: This wasn't on a z

Their is a running 1982 280zxt about two miles from me with perfect body but needs a tranny. Guy only wants 500 for the car. You add 750 - 900 bucks to ship it home. 150 for the tranny and your done. The one you want will cost more money then any zx is worth.

Take it to a shop and let them calibrate it.
