Due to being asked to do so. I've decided to post a couple of pictures of my car with the new wheels I got for her. Now, I know... I was using RS-Watanabe wheels but the offset on them was such that I had to use spacers for the front and although I had absolutely no trouble with them over the several months they were on the car, it was always something that made me a little nervous, thusly I was on the look-out for wheels that I could use until I come across more suitable RS-Watanabes. The pictures I've attached are the only real ones that I have at the moment and don't show them off too well, unfortunately the weather has been a bit shocking so I'll have to take some more when it's a bit sunnier, which shouldn't be too far off. They're SSR Long Champ Wheels, 15x6.5 and came w/ tyres 195/65R15's for $300NZD (about $200USD) however, they had their centre's painted black and needed a good clean up and sanding back as some moron had used an angle grinder or some such and then painted the black over the top so there were some serious scratches to remove. I've included a Before & After (or After & Before ) picture.
  2. Mine are both stamped with identical markings also, I'm fairly certain there's not designated sides for the C110 I've drawn a crude mspaint diagram to show what the writing is like on mine, all the markings are on the underside of the arm.

There is a nice but overpriced yellow 280ZX 2 seater for sale in NZ Classic Car magazine, if you like I could scan the advertisement or simply PM you the phone number from it. Alternatively, there has been a red 280ZX 2 seater for sale on NZ's auction site trademe.co.nz for some time now. Here's the link; http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Cars/Datsun/auction-14672085.htm

Hey there man and Welcome to classiczcars.com probably one of the best internet forums around. Good to see the population of the K cars growing. Watanabe's are always a popular choice. The problem being they're expensive and outside of Japan a little more expensive! I look forward to seeing more pictures of your car as you're going, what are your engine plans? RB-series I would have to guess.

  6. Hey Alan, and others watching this thread. My brother's 1973 from Australia is also missing the Passing lamp option, he did however manage to pick up an switch/lever cluster?? off a local auction site which DOES have it, also a NZ '72 I checked out recently didn't have any Passing Lamp option and as far as I know, neither have any of the other ones I've come across, but I might have to get back to you on that, it wasn't something I was looking out for, I will be now though!
  7. I didn't say ALL Americans, I said the "general American arrogance" if you felt that included yourself and you have to get defensive about it then that's for you to deal with emotionally. However, you must be dillusional if you don't realise what is portrayed and broadcast of America by Americans through-out the rest of the world. A generous amount of things I read on here in conjunction with a good number of years talking to Americans from ALL OVER America via the Internet and also those visiting NZ has bought me to this conclusion. As it happens, most of the Americans I've discussed it with have agreed. By my personal experience this does exist in the American culture a lot more so than I've noticed in others. Also I have conversed with other's that weren't American about it and very few if any have disagreed. I know everybody is an individual, etc etc etc. that's why I used "general". Golly you would have gone off your rocker if I said "THE ALL ENCOMPASSING AMERICAN ARROGANCE!" but I didn't because that's not true by my experience. I didn't think I was being insulting, in NO WAY was I attempting to insult Vicky, for all I knew, I was simply asking to "expand and explain" I even gave what I considered a valid reason why I wished for an explanation. To this I say.. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHHA. I guess your lifetime of personal experiences with NZ'ers lead you to attempting to use that blinding false generalisation as some form of sarcastic comeback to a non-existent situation, when the two aren't even vaguely comparable. It is lead from your simple misunderstanding from a single person who is quite happy to watch you wave your finger about and get angry at nothing. SO! to sum it all up. 1) They are NOT Factory restored cars. 2) "specification" wasn't the word that was meant to be used. And 3) I apologise to Vicky if you felt I was insulting you, I wasn't.
  8. Could you please expand on this? Did they change the weight distribution or wheelbase length? Perhaps they repositioned the e-brake lever so it was in the right place for a LHD car? It just seems an odd thing to me, that's all. To be honest, to me it sounds along the lines of "because they were "re"-assembled/"restored" in the US of A they're better than when Japan initially made the cars." Perhaps that's just me though reading things a little wrong and automatically tacking on the general American arrogance to the statement. By all means though, correct me if I'm wrong, expand and explain. :classic:
  9. Is that 2-5HP BEFORE or AFTER my collection of manufacturer's stickers for parts and accessories that I don't have on my car in the first place?? I like to make sure of these things, it may be exactly the added power I need to help improve my 60-foot times, being my excessively loud and heavy audio equipment is soaking up some of that precious sticker generated power. I might have to get the entire side of my car vinyled to compensate for the boot full of 12" subs.

  13. Yeah, being a dealer option it will obviously vary, and thusly if you want to be period and location correct, why would you put a LHD dealer option pinstriping on a RHD Z car? Perhaps that's another thing to take into consideration. Maybe?

Also! the added benefit of what I mentioned means the lenses will appear brighter than your previous ones due to the way the more modern lenses refract the light and it's ALWAYS handy for people to know when your classic is braking =

I think your best bet will be to buy some R32 Coupe rear lenses and trimmed and modified to fit your inner lights outer ring and then perhaps a pair of trailer park/reverse lamp lenses cut and modded to fit you inner lights inner ring. If that makes sense That was my plan anyway, I've already measured the sizes of the 32's tail-lights vs. the C110 and they're pretty much bang on.
  16. Hey Gavin, If you have a look at some of the pictures from the Motorman NZ atricle I posted a while back, you may be interested to note that the 2 Z cars in the article have side stripes, identical and neither have 240Z inside them at all, they're just two stripes that run in behind the "DATSUN" front quarter badge. http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=7619&sort=1&cat=500&page=1 http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=7618&sort=1&cat=500&page=1 Something to take into consideration perhaps?? Also you'll possibly be able to actually buy a couple of metres of pinstriping in those two sizes for less than $20 from a local signwriter.
  17. I'll have it. I'm keen on modifying one for my brother's 240Z will just need another lights cluster and then see if something cant be done to hook it up and make them a simple swap in swap out replacement so there's no damage to the Z at all.

Hey guys, I've attached a picture showing the difference between the font's. As you can see the difference is quite clear (despite the '73 dash being a bit fuzzy ) the '71 has a larger font and you'll also note the middle notch/mark that disappears on the later '73 dash. Gas Monkey is my brother BTW guys .
  19. A guy in NZ got a clear bonnet made up for his R32 Showcar, wasn't for road use I don't believe but kept drool and greasy fingers away from his engine bay during the shows no doubt.
  20. My choice would be the flag of the Japanese Empire on the bonnet or with the circular part on the bonnet and the rays of red going along the car. I suggested it for a race car when someone on here was looking to update their AutoX car's graphics, apparently it wouldn't have gone down well in their home state of Texas though. Hur hur.
  21. symon, I must say, you have the best and most superb taste! the 32GT-R is by far the nicest of all GT-R's built after the C110. What colour? Gunmetal? White? Black? or the more rare Maroon/Wine Red? In stock form? modified? I would really like either a white or gunmetal one in complete stock form, it would be fantastic.
  22. That's awesome symon, I bet you're one of the happiest people around right now , I know I certainly would be if I had one of those. Congrats.

Yes, well aware of that. No, of course it isn't. I know they do, I'm also well aware of that, and if I had twin SU's on my L24 I WOULD just tune them. However, I dont. I have a single 2BBL Hitachi DD carburettor. I'm trying this out simply because I got the setup for far far far cheaper than a twin SU setup would have cost me. As has already been said, there are vehicles that come with Triple SU's standard, I fail to see how those 6's would perform and yet the almighty L-series collapse. I'm not in a hurry to do it, I'm just trying it out, I still have to finish fabricating all the linkages and fuel lines etc. as I want it to at least run and look OK, even though it may not be better than twins SU's.

It looks absolutely fantastic Stephen, just right! Are there any car shows that you're able to take her too to show her off and win some prizes?
  25. They can be built to specific offsets from what I understand of the RS-Watanabe website but I believe the standard is as v12horse mentioned. Also, 14's in both Type-A and Type-B go no larger than 7.5" anything above that is Type-R terroritory. Again, that's just going by what I've attempted to figure out with rough web-based translations. Ooops.. and I think that Ben is using this webpage; http://www.rs-watanabe.co.jp/pay/al81014.htm
