  5. I was driving in my home town (Napa, Ca) I pull up to a stop light and a red Ferrari 355 Spider pulls up next to me. I look at the driver and give him the "I'm not worthy" bow jesture, and he motions his hand as if to say "you may rise, you ARE worthy"LOL Someday I will have my Ferrari

Thanks for the input. befroe I noticed the wire, I had already thrown in a warmer thermostat (switch from a 160 to 195) I then saw the wire and fixed that too. The temp seemed to hold (although the gauge read A LOT HIGHER THAN WHAT I WAS USED TO) The only reason I used a 195 was because that was the only one I had too swap. I started another thread about what degree of thermostat I should use. My radiator is the 4 row radiator the Motorsport Auto offers. I'm going to get a more accurate temp and decide which thermostat puts my engine temp at the optimum level. (water temp being different than engine or oil temp).
  8. having a 195 means that the thermostat will be closed (or mostly) below this temp, so the engine will most likely not get cooler than this. if the engine wants to run hotter than 195 it will regardless of wether you have a 160 or 195. in other words, a 195 thermo will not cause the engine to overheat easier. That makes sense. I guess what I need to find out is what's the best, operating temp for my car
  9. I'm running the original. WIth the 195 thermostat, the needle is positioned on the right side of the 'M' on the word "TEMP". Hard to tell exactly how hot it's really running. Not sure if this is normal opporating temp. I'm begining to see some new gauges in my Z's future.:classic:
  10. BTW, where does one get one of those digital guns that checks heat temps? After reading 2manyZ's posts, I want to be able to check my engine temp. I've invested too much money in this car to take any chances.
  11. well I do have a 160, along with a 4 row radiator with fan shrowd(sp?) I have heard that this might be to cool for street use, and that running to cold isn't good for your engine either. That's why when I was having a problem with my temp (asuming it was thermostat) I decided to change it to a 195 (being winter and all) Driving my car home from work, with the 195, it felt a little slower than normal. I think I'll put a 180 in it and see how that fares.
  12. Hello all, question. What temp thermostat should I use? I've been having some issues with my cooling system. you can see the thread here http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=66115#post66115 I know stock is 195, but since I have a high performance motor, I want to make sure I don't overheat it. On occasion I do take my car to track events. Maybe 195 on the street and 180 when I go to the track?? Need some advice on this.

I put in a 195 thermostat. It seemed to hold temp. but the needle was very high. the needle was just before the 'P' on the gauge. The one I took out was a 160 degree ( found that was too cold) with the 160 the gauge read just after the 'T'. I'm just wondering how accurate my gauge is?? One thing I did notice is that where I spliced the temp sensor wire, the electrical tape came off and the bare wire was touching my distributer. I'm wondering if that might have been the cause of my temp peging like that. The radiator never steamed, and the car seemed to run fine, and when I put the 160 degree thermostat in some hot water, it opened fine. Is 195 thermostat too hot?? (or too hot for track?) or should I get a 180? temp rarely gets above 95 where I live.

it's not the thermostat. I'm thinking it's the water pump
  15. I'll have to remember that line!!!
  16. feb 7th at Laguna Seca?? sounds good to me.

when I put a load on the motor and the temp increases, it increases pretty fast. Temp comes down fast when I let the engine idle. I'm going to throw in another thermostat real quick and see what happens.

Help, My Z is having a problem. Car is cool at idle, but starts to overheat when a load is put on the motor. Has water, Fan works, the pump has only 10,000 miles on it. Does this sound like thermostat? I hope I haven't done any damage to the motor. It happend on the way to work
  19. Yeah, that's what I've been reading on the harness, makes perfect sense. Maybe I'll just keep my existing belt until I get a cage. I haven't seen the schedule yet for NASA, but the day I sign up for an event ( I'm hoping jan or feb) I'll let you know. I'll probably go to Infineon, but I've been wanting to try thunderhill. Downloaded some lap videos of that track to give me a feel for what I'm in for when I finally go there. Gotta tell ya, that track looks like it's in the middle of nowhereLOL. Speaking of Videos, I installed a camera mount in my car so I can tape some of my laps. Should make for some humor for the Pros. here. By the way, I sold that dashboard, so you can take it off of your site. BTW, that ride in the Cortina was the first time I went out on a track and I've been hooked ever since. It's all Royce's fault I know when it comes to organized racing, I'm a novice, but hopefully with enough practice, money, and tips from everyone here, I'll be able to actually COMPETE in an event someday.
  20. Yeah, I met Royce out at Sears Point a couple of years ago. A friend of mine had to meet up with him there to buy some Z parts. I rode along with him for a few laps in his Cortina. Well, my seat belt seems to fit pretty well (shoulder strap fits better), and everything I've read about the subject points to getting a cage first, so I'll probably be giving you a call Aanand. Probably won't be able to afford one until mid Jan.(christmas and all).
  21. I can't remeber what kind of beer that was, but the one before it was a guinness. Since it was the last guinness, I had to settle for something else.
  22. Dreco does not like this brand of beerLOL Pic of me at a friends studio, laying down some guitar tracks
  23. I have a 240Z that I use for open track. I wanted to install a 4 point harness. I recently aquired a Corbeau Forza seat. I don't have a roll cage. Where are the best mounting points?? Do I just bolt to the existing seat belt mounting points?? (the 2 behind the seat) Or do I bolt the 2 lap points there, and the 2 shoulder points somewhere else?? anyone have pictures for examples?? Most of the Z's i've seen with harnesses have them attached to a roll cage. thanks
